They do like Mondays STOCKPORT
T
he Monday Welcome Stroke Club in Stockport celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a lunch this August. In attendance were club members and their partners, volunteers, supporters and special guests, including Councillor Hazel Lees, who supported the club as Mayor with a grant from the Mayor’s Charity Fund. The club’s first ever meeting took place on 10 June 1986 and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Treasurer Brian Eamonson gave a speech, attributing the success of the club to the dedicated volunteers who have enthusiastically embraced responsibilities such as driving, secretarial duties, volunteer coordination, bagging and selling sweets and making flower arrangements. The club also gave a presentation to Edna Whitmore to mark her retirement after more than 30 years of volunteering with WRVS. Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon and the club is looking forward to celebrating its next Above top: guests seated and ready as celebrations get underway; Above: treasurer Brian Eamonson and Edna Whitmore cut the cake big anniversary.

More helping hands needed SHEFFIELD
W
e are looking for more volunteers in Sheffield to help run local services. We have retail and coffee shops in the Royal Hallamshire, Northern General and Weston Park hospitals. We are also planning to introduce new services, such as on-ward volunteers helping patients with dementia feed themselves, to read with them and run small errands. If you would like to volunteer for one of these services, or know someone who might, please contact Carol Foster on 0114 2712969 or 07736 825356.
