The WSK Promotion international karting season is preparing for a final… that is a double final! This year’s Final Cup promises to be exciting considering that it will be divided into two events: it starts from the wonderful International Circuit Napoli in Sarno and will end in the historic “training ground” of South Garda Karting in Lonato, all within two weeks. Two tracks with different characteristics for an event that on the one hand will simply bring the curtain down on 2022, but, on the other hand, will further raise the bar of the challenge. Drivers, teams and mechanics still have a lot to do before finally hibernating during the classic winter break and the WSK Final Cup is the last real opportunity for them to show off their worth. For all of us who will be observing the exploits of the drivers from the stands or on a screen it is difficult, if not impossible, to be able to predict the future champions with certainty. Of one thing, however, we are sure: the show and the emotions, like the entire 2022 season, will not be lacking.

La stagione del karting internazionale firmata WSK Promotion si prepara a un finale… Doppio! La Final Cup di quest’anno si preannuncia esaltante considerato che si articolerà su due appuntamenti: si parte dal meraviglioso Circuito Internazionale Napoli a Sarno e si concluderà nella storica “palestra” del South Garda Karting di Lonato, tutto nel giro di due settimane. Due tracciati con caratteristiche diverse per una manifestazione che da una parte farà calare semplicemente il sipario sul 2022, ma, dall’altra, alzerà ulteriormente l’asticella della sfida. Piloti, team e meccanici hanno ancora molto da dire prima di andare definitivamente in letargo durante la classica pausa invernale e la WSK Final Cup rappresenta l’ultima vera occasione per mettere in mostra il proprio valore. Per tutti noi che osserveremo le gesta dei piloti dagli spalti o attraverso uno schermo è difficile, se non impossibile, poter predire con certezza i futuri campioni. Di una cosa, però, siamo sicuri: lo spettacolo e le emozioni, come per tutta la stagione 2022, non mancheranno.

ROUND 1 / November 3-6, 2022

Circuit Napoli, which stands at the foot of Vesuvius, has been a reference point for world karting since 1999. Last year the track underwent significant restyling (inaugurated internationally on the occasion of a WSK event) which brought with it a renewed design that includes a starting line on the straight that runs alongside the paddock and a total length of 1,600 metres. In March, the titles of the four international classes of the WSK Super Master Series were awarded on this track, while in July those of the WSK

Series were awarded.

Circuit Napoli, che sorge ai piedi del Vesuvio, è un punto di riferimento del karting mondiale fin dal 1999. Lo scorso anno il tracciato ha subito un restyling notevole (inaugurato a livello internazionale proprio in occasione di una manifestazione WSK) che ha portato con sé un design rinnovato che prevede la linea di partenza sul rettilineo che costeggia il paddock e uno sviluppo totale di 1.600 metri. A marzo, su questa pista, sono stati assegnati i titoli delle quattro categorie internazionali della WSK Super Master Series, mentre a luglio quelli della WSK Euro Series.

ROUND 2 / November 10-13, 2022

Operating since 1988, South Garda Karting is considered the “Temple” of international karting and is the favourite destination of F1 drivers who want to go back to training in karts. In 2015, the facilities and services adjacent to the track were modernised and the track was lengthened to the current 1,200 metres. This year it hosted the WSK Champions Cup, the first two rounds of the WSK Super Master Series, one of the two stages valid for the WSK Euro Series and the WSK Open in a single round.

Attivo fin dal lontano 1988, il South Garda Karting è considerato il “Tempio” del karting internazionale ed è la meta preferita dei piloti di F1 che vogliono tornare ad allenarsi in kart. Nel 2015, le strutture e i servizi adiacenti alla pista sono stati rimodernati e il tracciato è stato allungato agli attuali 1.200 metri. Quest’anno ha ospitato la WSK Champions Cup, i primi due appuntamenti della WSK Super Master Series, una delle due tappe valide per la WSK Euro Series e la WSK Open in tappa unica.

A STELLAR FINISH TO THE SEASON

As has been the tradition for eleven years now, excluding 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the WSK Final Cup guarantees a great show for the international karting season final. Since its debut in 2011, the event has immediately become a meeting capable of attracting drivers and teams from all over the world and, even for the eleventh edition, it promises battles to the last metre. What will be the next names that will enter the roll of honour, alongside Marco Ardigò, Patrik Hajek, Callum Ilott, Bas Lammers, Nicklas Nielsen and Lorenzo Travisanutto?

Come tradizione vuole da undici anni a questa parte - escludendo il 2020 a causa della pandemia di COVID-19 - la WSK Final Cup garantisce grande spettacolo per il finale di stagione del karting internazionale. Dal suo esordio nel 2011, la manifestazione è diventata immediatamente un appuntamento in grado di attirare piloti e team provenienti da tutto il mondo e, anche per la undicesima edizione, promette gare combattute fino all’ultimo metro. THE WINNERS OF THE

TOMASS STOLCERMANIS

First WSK Promotion title for Emilien Denner (Sodikart/TM Racing) in this 2022 season. The Frenchman started the weekend with the fastest lap (1:02.049) in the qualifiers and continued with his leading pace in the qualifying heats as well, winning three out of three races. On Sunday morning he started “only” in third place in the prefinal, but Denner did not give an inch to his rivals in the final: in fact, already on the first lap he climbed from third position to second and, three laps later, took the lead in the race. The CPB Sport driver crossed the finish line with a 1.527 second advantage over Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing), who came second and who led the race in the first laps. With a comeback of 6 positions from the starting grid, Daniel Vasile (DR/ Modena Engines) achieved a well-deserved third place.

La domenica mattina si apre “solo” con un terzo posto in prefinale, ma Denner non concede sconti ai propri avversari in finale: infatti, già al primo giro sale dalla terza posizione alla seconda e, tre passaggi dopo, conquista il comando della corsa. Il portacolori di CPB Sport taglia il traguardo con 1.527 secondi di vantaggio su Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing), secondo classificato e leader della gara nei primi giri. Con una rimonta di 6 posizioni rispetto alla griglia di partenza, Daniel Vasile (DR/Modena Engines) conquista un meritato terzo posto.

Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM Racing) was crowned champion for the first time in a competition promoted by WSK Promotion. The Latvian was immediately among the main protagonists in Lonato with the seventh best time in the qualifiers and further improved his situation in the rankings at the end of the qualifying heats, also thanks to a second place in the first heat, climbing to sixth place. On Sunday, Stolcermanis went wild: first he achieved a Top 3 position in the prefinal and on the first lap of the final he already leapt into first palce in the race. Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex) tried every which way to overtake him, but the Energy Corse driver defended himself very well and won the race 182 thousandths of a second ahead of the Swede. Gabriel Gomez (CRG/Iame) grabbed third place, +0.742 seconds behind the winner.

Il lettone è subito tra i principali protagonisti di Lonato con il settimo tempo nelle qualifying practice e migliora ulteriormente la propria situazione in classifica al termine delle qualifying heat, anche grazie a un secondo posto nella prima manche, salendo sesto. Domenica, Stolcermanis si scatena: prima conquista la Top 3 in prefinale e al primo giro della finale balza già al comando della gara. Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex) tenta in tutte le maniere di superarlo, ma il portacolori di Energy Corse si difende egregiamente e vince la gara con 182 millesimi di secondo di vantaggio sullo svedese. Gabriel Gomez (CRG/Iame) agguanta, invece, il terzo posto, a +0.742 secondi dal vincitore.

SALIM HANNA

Salim Hanna (LN/Vortex) amazed everyone and raised the winner’s cup in the OKJ class. The Colombian already proved to be among the fastest in the qualifiers with second place in group 1 and with two podiums and a fastest lap in the first two qualifying heats. In the following three heats he won twice and achieved a further third place that launched him to the top of the intermediate rankings. Hanna confirmed his leadership with another triumph, this time in prefinal A on Sunday morning, and took the pole position for the afternoon’s final. The Ricky Flynn Motorsports Team driver was practically perfect at the start and led the race from the first turn to the chequered flag. Miguel Costa (KR/Iame) followed In the wake of the South American, second after a 7-position climb, while Taym Saleh (KR/ Iame) finishing in third place.

Salim Hanna (LN/Vortex) stupisce tutti e alza al cielo la coppa del vincitore nella categoria OKJ. Il colombiano dimostra di essere tra i più veloci già nelle qualifying practice con il secondo posto nel gruppo 1 e con due podi e un giro veloce nelle prime due qualifying heat. Nelle successive tre manche registra due vittorie e un ulteriore terzo posto che lo lanciano in vetta alla classifica intermedia. Hanna conferma la leadership con un altro trionfo, stavolta nella prefinale A di domenica mattina, e conquista la pole position per la finale del pomeriggio. Il pilota del team Ricky Flynn Motorsports è praticamente perfetto alla partenza e guida la corsa dalla prima curva fino alla bandiera a scacchi. In scia al sudamericano segue Miguel Costa (KR/Iame), secondo dopo una risalita di 7 posizioni, mentre Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) chiude al terzo posto.

ISKENDER ZULFIKARI

In the decisive moment of the weekend, Iskender Zulfikari (Parolin/Iame) landed a win and conquered the title in the MINI class. After a complicated qualifying session, the Turk scored a series of notable results in the qualifying heats, including a win, a second place and two fastest laps, and climbed the intermediate rankings by 16 places. Zulfikari did not stop there and, on the contrary, proved to have the pace to be able to compete with the best by winning the prefinal A on Sunday morning. From seventh position, the Babyrace Driver Academy standard-bearer sprinted with decision in the final, immediately moving to third place and even taking the lead during the fifth lap. Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing) challenged Zulfikari and even managed to overtake him on the penultimate lap, but the Turk responded on the last lap and won. Ivannikov still achieved a place of honour, ahead of Roman Kamyab (Parolin/Iame), third at the finish line.

Nel momento decisivo del weekend, Iskender Zulfikari (Parolin/Iame) piazza la zampata vincente e conquista il titolo nella classe MINI. Dopo una qualifica complicata, il turco segna una serie di risultati di rilievo nelle qualifying heat - tra cui una vittoria, un secondo posto e due giri veloci - e scala la classifica intermedia di 16 posizioni. Zulfikari non si ferma qui e, anzi, dimostra di avere il passo per poter competere con i migliori vincendo la prefinale A di domenica mattina. Dalla settima posizione, il portacolori di Babyrace Driver Academy scatta con decisione in finale, si porta subito al terzo posto e, addirittura, va a comando nel corso del quinto giro. Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing) sfida Zulfikari e riesce anche a sopravanzarlo al penultimo passaggio, ma il turco gli risponde all’ultimo giro e si aggiudica la vittoria. Ivannikov conquista comunque la piazza d’onore, davanti a Roman Kamyab (Parolin/Iame), terzo sul traguardo.

EVERYTHING READY FOR THE 2023 SEASON

WSK Promotion has reserved numerous surprises in view of 2023. The calendar for the next season will consist of 14 events, two more than in 2022, for a total of 6 different competitions and as many international circuits. Lonato will kick off the season with the traditional Champions Cup (29 January) and the first round of the Super Master Series (5 February 2022), as well as hosting the opening stages of the Open Series in March and the Final Cup in November. The new-entry Franciacorta will host the second round of the “Master” on 19 February, will kick off the Euro Series in September and close the Final Cup in November. Sarno is also confirmed, home to the third stage of the Super Master Series and the last weekends of the Euro Series and the Open Series. A pleasant return, on the other hand, for Castelletto di Branduzzo, the circuit on which the last race of the Super Master Series and round 3 of the Open Series will be held, while the novelty of Cremona will be the circuit for the second round of the Open Series. Finally, La Conca will again host the WSK Super Cup by MINI, the “little world cup” of the MINI class, in June. Let’s get ready to experience another intense and electrifying season of great karting.

Il calendario della prossima stagione sarà composto da ben 14 eventi, due in più rispetto al 2022, per un totale di 6 diverse competizioni e altrettanti circuiti di caratura internazionale. Lonato inaugurerà la stagione con la tradizionale Champions Cup (29 gennaio) e con il primo round della Super Master Series (5 febbraio 2022), oltre a ospitare le tappe d’apertura della Open Series a marzo e della Final Cup a novembre. La new-entry Franciacorta accoglierà il secondo appuntamento della “Master” il 19 febbraio, darà il via alla Euro Series a settembre e chiuderà la Final Cup a novembre. Confermata anche Sarno, sede della terza tappa della Super Master Series e degli ultimi weekend della Euro Series e della Open Series. Piacevole ritorno, invece, per Castelletto di Branduzzo, circuito sul quale si terrà l’ultima gara della Super Master Series e il round 3 della Open Series, mentre la novità di Cremona sarà teatro del secondo appuntamento della Open Series. Infine, La Conca sarà di nuovo sede della WSK Super Cup by MINI, il “Mondialino” della categoria MINI, nel mese di giugno. Prepariamoci a vivere un’altra intensa ed elettrizzante stagione di grande karting.
