You transformed the future for animals Thanks to you, it’s a better world for animals. You led the way!
We were known as WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals)
You moved us to... Demonstrate humane solutions to human-wildlife conflict in Tanzania, helping keep elephants safe. Work with the Colombian Foreign Ministry to take action to help stop the illegal import of the piracatinga fish, which in turn, will prevent the use of boto dolphins as bait. Complete and establish Europe’s largest bear sanctuary, in Romania. Your committed support has helped build a permanent home for 79 bears rescued from illegal captivity. In 2015, you will help the sanctuary create a non-invasive visitor program and work toward self-sufficiency. End the practice of global retailers selling caged civet coffee. Thanks to you, 2015 will see more civets living in the wild where they belong. Ease the suffering of 77 million beef cattle, chickens and pigs through training workshops introducing more humane practices in Brazilian slaughterhouses.
Change is on the move Around the world You made great strides for animal health, hope, and happiness this year, shaping a kinder future across the globe for creatures large and small.
Healthier lives on farms and in homes For the first time ever, the world’s meat industry came face-to-face with an animal welfare organization at the World Meat Congress. World Animal Protection called on 600 of the most powerful industry leaders to move to better farm animal welfare. And, thanks to you, 192,482 dogs were spared the suffering of rabies through vaccination. You vaccinated dogs in six countries, and helped guide governments and nations in their efforts to eliminate rabies.
From desperate hope to critical help We celebrated a milestone—50 years of helping animals in disasters! Your achievements in 2014 included helping over 70,000 animals after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and showing farmers how to protect their livestock from harm.
Happy to be wild and free You helped end the bear bile tourism industry in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. And you brought about the surrender of 11 bear baiting bears to the Balkasar santuary in Pakistan. You deserve our Gold Award for “Best Animal Welfare Initiative” for wildlife-friendly tourism campaigns, awarded to us by World Responsible Travel Awards!

We achieved the commitment of major national corporations to making humane sustainable changes in their business practices. Watch for the exciting announcements coming soon! Our new ‘Before They Book‘ campaign has already seen significant success in educating over 450,000 tourists and tour operators of the cruelty and abuse of wild animal attractions such as elephant rides. Nearly 10,000 Canadians like you have signed our Change.org petition and pledged to end the exploitation of wildlife in tourism entertainment! We launched our new gift program, World Animal Gifts, worldanimalgifts.ca—a wonderful way to improve animals’ lives through the meaningful presents you give to family and friends.
