There is an eternal landscape, a geography of the soul; we search for its outlines all our lives. - Josephine Hart

1) THE SHOOT

▸ Editing is part of the post process. ▸ No amount of editing can fix a badly composed or blurry photo. ▸ Get your photos correct on the spot. ▸ Use Photoshop to enhance, not fix your mistakes. ▸ Shoot in RAW – It gives you more data to work with.

5

2) THE MIND EYE

▸ You need to have a mental image of the complete image even before you edit it. ▸ If not, you will just end up with just some random effects and stuff. ▸ Does not need to be a solid plan, but at least have an idea – A warm fuzzy image? Dramatic? Mysterious?

6

3) COOKING THE RAW PART 1

If you shoot in RAW, Camera Raw will fire up when you open it with Photoshop. First step, adjust the exposure to your liking with the exposure sliders.

7

4) COOKING THE RAW PART 2

▸ ▸

Step 2, sharpen the photo. This is up to your own choice, and the amount of megapixels that you have. General rule, do not over-do it until the noise pops out.

8

5) COOKING THE RAW PART 3

▸ ▸ ▸

Step 3, fix the lens distortion. Can be easily done with Camera Raw’s built-in lens profile. Optional if your lens have minimal distortion.

6) COOKING THE RAW PART 4

If your photo is “dry” and blend, you might want to add a little more color to it. General rule again, do not over-do it until the photo becomes a puke of colors.

10

7) CLEANING UP In Photoshop itself, you might want to zoom in, “pixel peek”. Use the healing brush tool to get rid of dust spots. Use content aware to remove unwanted pieces of rubbish.

8) SEXY CURVES Layer -> New Layer Adjustment -> Curves. This can be done in Camera Raw as well, but the advantage of doing this in Photoshop is the ability to mask and target specific spots.

12

9) MORE EFFECTS? At this stage, your photo should be good enough, but open to more creative takes. Black-and-white, HDR, Orton Effect – Your choice.

13

10) MORE EFFECTS?

Final step, don’t forget to put in your watermark.
