FLORENCE CATHEDRAL RENOVATION Dome Structure Research and Renovation FlorenceďźŒItaly AdvisorďźšYuan Zhan
In this project I researched the dome structure, exhausted the possibilities and transformed the classic case Florence Cathedral. With the development of times, Florence Cathedral, apart from religious functions, also need to sati-
sfy the exhibition and tourist function. According to the needs and the res-
earch of dome structure deformation, I transformed the Florence Cathedral are more adapted to the contemporary needs of society.

A GALLERY WITH WATER COURTYARD Chinese Traditional Artworks Exhibition Gallery CAA,Hangzhou,China Advisor:Weihua Jiang
The site of the gallery located upon the south-east of the xiangshan campus. The site is rich in art atmosphere like art campus, art studio, art districts, so building a new gallery Will adjust to the surrounding atmosphere.
Wooden system which evolves from interlocked stay harmony with the outer water courtyard. Not only the facade structure, but also the inner structure are using the natural building concept, which can bring warming and natural feeling to the viewers.
SITE ANALYSIS
The layout of the whole buildings of xiangshan campus of China academy of art presents radial pattern from xiangshan toward the surrounding, so does the landscape dialogue between the buildings and the xiangshan. Our site locates at the southeast of the xiangshan campus. But the site is surrounded by many residential communities including high-rise dwellings and life communities from the east, yunxi community from the west, and other under construction commerce buildings from the south. Those building images will bring bad impact to the scenery of the site.

The site of this project is located in Central Fall, RI. During site study, I noticed some characteristics of the site. First of all, there is plenty of space. Secondly, the site is
at risk of seasonal flooding. Based on these observations, I designed courtyards and
enlarged landscape area so that ramblers have close touch with nature. Meanwhile, the ponds can be used to reserve water. I also created an underground world using the existing mill wall and it has the functions of reserving water, sauna, bathing et cetera.

BUILDING ANALYSIS I designed 3 different stories and then overlapped them to construct a building. By this way, there will be a couple of public amenity spaces and balconies in the building. In the amenity spaces, tenants can do exercises, meditate, see a movie, enjoy a cup of coffee or have conversations. They also serve as a public place where tenants can get to know each other and develop friendship. On top of the usual elevators and fire stairs, I also created several side stairs in certain sections of the building to connect different floors as well as to provide a good view of neighborhood. Every facade of the building has a large open area, so more sunshine can get in and we have a better view of the courtyard and the river.

"mountain" ARTWORK DISPLAY SPACE DESIGN Nature Construct For Art Work Display CAA,Hangzhou,China Advisor:Weihua Jiang This design field is the long-bridge whose pure space is full of
sense of ritual. A kind of sense of be close to nature that Mount Xiang let a person feel and the intimate contact with the bridge and the mountain are the original intention for design.
Put the art works in front of Mount Xiang as much as possible. It only can reveal its significance under a real giant object. The triangle roof of pavilion refers to mountain.
The translucence black-network in the pavilion divide the
space and exhibits into the two sides of Yin and Yang. Have seen “Mountain” face to face real mount and return to
“Mountain”. You maybe truly touch the interest of artworks and the original intention of designer.

Site Selection
We choose the longbridge that is osspsite the school building No.4 as our site. The length of the long-bridge is full of sense of ritual and pilgrimage. The under-bridge river, street, the near-bridge beauty and the willow branches flowing into the arch of the bridge create a gorgeous atmosphere for enjoying the mount.
MATERIAL CONNECTION METHOD
A-The wire was tied a kont on the batten for fixing through the plastic plank.
B-Plastic wave plank is splinted between the tiles and purlin rafter, other side down naturally.
C-Plastic wave plank is fixed by the batten on the wall, the other side was placed on the nether plastic canopy that supports the plastic wave plank.
CONNECTION METHOD EXPERIMENT
Clipping the shading net to bars and weaved to strings, then cut holes on the plastic wave plank. At last, use the strings to weave through the hole.
Utilize the characteristics of undulating itself to splice in dislocation. And the structure is relatively pure. Make the plastic wave plank to plastic pipe as the supported structure for reinforced.

In the thesis design of collective residences, I remain and reorganize the original farmland and river way, and add in
an irrigated river way. For the behind commercial and resi- dential integration, I design a mountain with multiple layers to be the background, thus make the whole site look like a Chinese landscape painting.
For the other part of collective residence we apply two rows of tall dwellings. What we imagine is a concept of "mountain", so in the middle of two rows of dwelling we design a sunken courtyard (landscape), which is just like a valley. Then we link two dwellings with a covered bridge. This design is
named as "valley courtyard". All these designs are filled
with natural elements, and full of Chinese traditional charm.
BACKGROUND SYNTHESIS
Factories close to water make an ideal place of leisure
The design of overlapping shacks is inspired by ranges upon ranges of mountains
The site had developed constantly in 2002-2007. The first site has been kept as a freight station and the free temporary architecture in the second site already formed a settlement. However, from 2007 to 2010, the temporary architecture disappeared largely.
Preservation of farmland represents part of motabolism
The site is located near the intersection of canal and Qiantang river. The area of first site is about 24000 m2 and used as a freight station; the second site is 86300m2 and has been desolating for a long time. A big amount of external labour and their temporary huts are gathered here. They mainly work for rubbish recycling and assortment in a bad living environment. Inside the place a massive farmland is also assarted.

EXPERIMENTAL MULTIAPPROACHES TRAFFIC MODE Transportation Transfer, Deconstruction Traffic Hangzhou,China Advisor:Min Zhuo
In this project I undertake a deconstruction for both efficiency-focused
fast traffic and feeling-oriented rambling traffic. For the ground floor it
is planned with a freeway network in the pattern of homogenous net. The second floor is designed as an organic street net for riding bike and
walking. On the other hand, we design a sightseeing waterway based on
the original river system. Inside the location, five transfer centers make up a method of three transportation containing bus-bike, bus-ferry and bus-walk with a free selection.

ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS Building : Kanchanjunga Advisor : Jonathan Scelsa Rhode Island School of Design The Kanchanjunga building has 32 apartments with 4 different types varying form 3-bedroom to 6 bedroom. It has been designed in east and west orientation. The Veranda provides with a cover as well as cool breeze.
I studied Kanchanjunga Apartments in terms of public and private zones. I made a
physical model to create wind condition and used diagram to document wind density. Based on the zones and wind condition, I twisted a bunch of walls to distinguish public and private zones. Meanwhile, in stead of blocking the wind, the walls help guide the flow of the wind.

External Dimension
For the space management of Fujian soul building, two completely different systems of dimension are adopted for internal and external spaces. When you walk close to it, making contrast with human size, you can feel its grandness. This dimension is to defend from enemies. Walking into it, there is full of heavy living atmosphere around every household.
When facing to the traditional soil building, people used to feel reverent and depressed because if its bulky figure. This is basically related to both if its structure and materials. The foundation is set with big slices of stone and the wall close to people is laid by dry stones, intending to provide a weight sense. The outside earth presents a raw and harsh feeling.
The big roof of soil building generates a depression for people. A small window with a height of 70-90cm is applied here as a vent, and the corner of wall is built by layers of stone in order to express a weight sense. The external soil wall is to display a raw and harsh style.
Huaiyuan Building
Internal Dimension
01
While entering the hall, you can see layers of space forward. The internal change of dimension possesses a regular sequence.
01
02
On the path of courtyard, both vertical eave and wood pillar divide the sight, which indicates to a change of space dimension based on a vertical direction.
02
03
While entering the yard in front of middle ancestral hall, your body would be surrounded by the wall around. Both pillar and wall are a guidance of horizontal space dimension.
03 04
When reaching the corridor, the sight would be controlled by eave and pillar, thereby losing direction.
