Windward was founded by educator Shirley Windward in 1971 as a coeducational, nonprofit, independent, college preparatory day school enrolling students in Grades Seven through 12. Our mission statement encourages students to become responsible, caring, well informed, ethical, and prepared citizens of the world. Located in West Los Angeles, Windward draws its student body from the diverse population of Los Angeles. Admission is highly selective. Windward is accredited by WASC and is a member of the Global Online Academy, the Cum Laude Society, NAIS, the College Board, NACAC, and WACAC.

INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS

UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS: Windward has promoted innovation in education by partnering with, and seeking out opportunities to learn from, professionals working at institutions including Stanford University, USC, The University of Texas at Austin, MIT, The University of Queensland, and others. THE WINDWARD NETWORK assists Windward students and alumni seeking professional growth, networking, internship, and mentorship opportunities. Led by Robin Pickett, the Windward Network helps current students and alumni explore and advance their careers.

STATE-OF-THE-ART SPACES: CREATE AND DESIGN STUDIOS based upon the groundbreaking work of the Stanford dSchool and other innovative institutions.

STUDIO FOR WRITING AND RHETORIC created in partnership with the Hume Writing Center at Stanford to help students in their efforts to become expert writers and communicators.
