City Of Santa Monica Well Work Update

After multiple delays, the City of Santa Monica has officially begun working on two of the water wells located on Windward’s campus.

The City of Santa Monica began working on the wells located in the Sawtelle Parking Lot last week, and plan to begin work on the second well (located on the athletic field) next week. Below is the most recent schedule of the work that has been provided:

Well #13 (located in the Sawtelle Parking Lot) - In Progress to July 2023

Well #18 (located on the Athletic Field) - April 2023 to July 2023

All work will be completed during the weekdays (Monday - Friday) from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. While there may be some noise (especially when drilling is being performed), every effort will be made to be considerate of our neighbors. We proudly work very closely with the City of Santa Monica and are happy to answer any questions that you may have or address any concerns that may arise once the work begins.

Below is an aerial map of the campus, highlighting the wells that will be worked on.

SERVICE LEARNING

SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE (SHP) EVENT

On Saturday, March 18, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invited the Windward Community to join them in a Service Learning project in support of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. SHP is a non-profit organization dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.

WINDWARD TEACHES TECH

Windward Student Leaders will teach social media, apps, and rideshare services to local senior citizens. Our classes will cover such programs as Netflix, Hulu, Lyft, Uber, and Amazon. Other subjects may be available upon request.

We were excited to welcome this opportunity back to campus in March. Please reach out to Ashley Goodman (agoodman@windwardschool.org) if you are interested in attending future classes.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Highlights included:

• Food

• Craft Activities for Kids

• Music

• Fun and Games

Tours of the campus will be provided to any interested neighbors.

Windward students are excited to be back participating in Mar Vista Elementary School’s STEAM night on April 13. We will have Windward students demonstrating three different hands-on experiments, including robotics, and how to make Oobleck to MVE students.

The Windward School Chapter of the Pad Project organization is a club committed to ending period poverty and the stigma around periods while uplifting menstruators. At the beginning of March, the club held a week-long all school period product drive. Our community received an overwhelming amount of donations. All donations were divided amongst organizations across Los Angeles who are in desperate need of these products to help support their underserved clients in their communities.

On Thursday, April 13, our Middle School students will be taking part in an after-school service project partnering with The Painted Turtle, a nonprofit organization which was co-founded by Paul Newman and provides a year-round medical specialty camp for children who have serious medical conditions. All campers and their families attend free of charge. We will have a representative from The Painted Turtle come and speak to students, and then we will be doing a hands-on activity, stuffing plush turtle toys, to provide as gifts for the camp attendees.
