SCHOLARSHIPS & RECOGNITION OPPORTUNITIES Theater Organizations: Austin Yeatman Technical Theatre Scholarship One-time $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior studying technical theatre in college. John Marshall/International Thespian Officers’ Outstanding Student Achievement Scholarship $1,000 scholarship awarded to two graduating seniors who exemplify the ideals of the International Thespian Society. Bob and Marti Fowler Future Theatre Educator Scholarship Awarded to a student pursuing a theatre education major and who demonstrates leadership qualities, an excellent work ethic, the ability to work effectively as a member of a production team, strong character, academic ability, organizational skills, and experience in different aspects of theatre.

Christopher L. Hunt Scholarship $1,000 scholarship created with donations in honor of the late Chris Hunt, Director of Marketing at EdTA. This scholarship is intended for inducted Thespians who plan to use skills learned through theatre in a career focused on business or marketing. Applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities, academic ability, organizational skills, experience in different aspects of theatre business and marketing, and an appreciation of the value of the arts to our society and to a well-rounded education.

Educational Theatre Association Presidents’ Leadership Scholarship $1,000 scholarship created with donations from and in honor of past and current EdTA board presidents. This scholarship is intended for inducted Thespians who successfully demonstrate leadership abilities. Emphasis is placed on the student’s troupe involvement and demonstrated leadership abilities and experiences both in and out of school. Applicants do not have to major in theatre in college. Excellence in Theatre Performance Scholarship Awarded to graduating high school seniors planning to major in communication or the performing arts. Fields include: theatre, film, speech, radio and television, broadcasting, music, or dance. The number of scholarships and their amounts vary each year.


Future Theatre Educator Scholarship One-time $2,500 scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors planning to major in communication or the performing arts. Fields include: theatre, film, speech, radio and television, broadcasting, music, or dance. The number of scholarships and their amounts vary each year. Melba Day Henning Scholarship Awarded to one graduating senior working toward a career in theatre education. The initial award of $1,000 a year is renewable for three additional years—up to a maximum of $4,000. A $500 cash stipend is awarded when the recipient secures a teaching position. Theatre Performance, Technical, or Playwriting Scholarship One-time $2,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior entering a college program to major in theatre performance, technical theatre, or playwriting. For the Playwriting Scholarship, the recipient must have been a finalist in the Thespian Playworks program during one of the previous four years. Amy Bennett Musical Theatre Scholarship One-time $1,500 scholarship awarded to two graduating seniors entering a college program to major in musical theatre. EdTA Scholarships List: https://www. schooltheatre.org/programs/ags/ scholarships Princess Grace Awards A national program dedicated to assisting emerging theatre, dance, and film artists who are at the early stages of their professional careers, the Princess Grace Foundation Theatre Scholarships offer between $7,500 and $30,000 to outstanding students who are enrolled in a public or non-profit U.S. institution for studying theatre. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, be nominated by their school department dean, and demonstrate academic and artistic promise. Rose Brand Scholarship Designed to ensure that those who excel in set design and technical production are not overlooked when it comes to financial support, the Rose Brand Scholarship Program provides up to $5,000 to undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking theatre careers by studying scenic design at an accredited U.S. university. Selection will be based on faculty recommendations, photographs/ descriptions of projects, essay responses, and expected promise as a theatre professional. Set design and Technical Production http://www.rosebrand.com/news/detail. aspx?id=63 California Educational Theatre Association (CETA); Vivian “Bish” Edwards Memorial Scholarship Granted annually for $1,000 to a graduating high school senior from southern California who plans to major or minor in theatre at an accredited U.S. institution with the goal of becoming a theatre educator. Applicants must be dedicated theatre students, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, submit a 1,000-word essay on the role of theatre in their professional goals, and agree to participate in an interview.
