O

n November 20, students and parents came together to continue the School’s long-standing partnership with Allies for Every Child, teaming up to host their annual Thanksgiving dinner. This year’s volunteers donated and prepared the ingredients to make a full turkey dinner for over 300 people on site at AEC. Parents and volunteers prepared and cooked, while students served, decorated, and entertained AEC families with an arts and crafts fair. A joyous celebration of the holiday spirit, the day was a great example of the bond we share with all generations of our Windward community.

NIGHT CLASSES AND WELLNESS WORKSHOPS FOR 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR

O

ur hearts go out to those affected by the recent fires in the area. To show our appreciation for the many brave firefighters and first responders who keep us safe, students wrote thank-you notes and put together care packages for our local fire station. We’re proud to be part of such an inspiring community!

W

indward School is considering offering after school Wellness Workshops open to the community in the 2020-21 school year. We’d love your feedback to see if this is something of interest to the community, and if so, what topics would be of most value (e.g. Financial Wellness, Mental Health Wellness, etc.). Please send any thoughts and comments to Lindsay Flacks, Windward’s Director of Infrastructure and Risk Management (lflacks@windwardschool.org).

CYBERSECURITY TIPS: HOLIDAY HEADACHES And How to Avoid Being Scammed This Holiday Shopping Season

SWIPE SAFELY If possible, avoid using debit cards to make purchases. Opt for credit cards instead. Most credit card companies offer fraud protection that covers any fraudulent charges should your card be lost or stolen. If you must get cash from an ATM, choose one that’s physically inside a bank and inspect machines thoroughly for card skimmers. JOINING THE CROWDS? Some deals get marketed as “only available in stores” and might draw massive crowds as a result. If you join them, use a healthy dose of situational awareness. Keep an eye on your things. Know where the exits are. And be kind to those around you! SHOPPING FROM THE HOUSE? Cyber Monday and other holiday-related online deals provide great discounts with the convenience of shopping in your pajamas. But they’re also convenient for cybercriminals who set up bogus websites. Stick to recognizable websites, and always verify the URL before entering any personal info (look for the green padlock and HTTPS). RECEIVE AN UNSOLICITED OFFER? Beware of any offers that you receive via email or text which come from merchants you don’t recognize or just look spammy. The offer could be real. Or it could be a phishing attack. Always think before you click!

IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

W

NEIGHBORHOOD SECURITY UPDATE

A

s a school operating in a residential neighborhood, we strive to do our part in remaining a good neighbor. Continuing our long-standing partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department, the School will work with the LAPD to ensure that all parking notices and street safety measures—such as illegal turns and parking violations—are enforced. Please contact us with any security questions:
