CREATIONS STRAIGHT TO THE HEART THAT SHINE IN OUR MOST PRIVATE SPACES. In his novel Metamorphosis Apuleius tells the story of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, who was jealous of the beauty of Psyche. She asked her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with a horrible monster. But when Cupid saw how beautiful Psyche was, he dropped the arrow meant for her and pricked himself, and thus fell in love with Psyche forever. This is the origin of one of the best-loved stories in classical mythology. And also the inspiration for this new Cupid who, with his bold gaze, aims an arrow straight to our heart. The soft forms and generous volumes achieved by superb modeling allow us to appreciate the meticulous attention to detail in the ornamentation of the wings. The pure tenderness and romanticism are perfectly at home in our most intimate spaces.

LADIES, TO THE BALL A FEAST FOR THE SENSES Satin, tulle, flounces, embroidery, hats crowned with flowers… everything can be turned into porcelain in the hands of Lladró artists. This can be well appreciated in these sophisticated ladies who are sharing impressions during a well-earned break at a party. Colors created specifically, such as the metallic blue of the gown, as well as highly laborious techniques were used to give life to the elements decorating the hats in this piece. The Lladró flowers, one of the brand’s signature elements, are handcrafted petal by petal. Creating the tulle requires the skill of the best Lladró artists, who handle the noble material with consummate control and know how to work miracles with it.

SECRET LOVE The magic of Lladró porcelain invites us to travel back in time. Porcelain kisses transports us to a ball in the palace at Versailles during the time of splendor of the Sun King (Louis XIV of France). And it does so to tell us a story of love in a refined, evocative language in which the fan plays a key role. This is a classic Lladró lady in a larger format than usual for this type of piece. The gown, in the style so fashionable among the French aristocrats of the period, is rounded off with an elegant headdress with feathers and flowers handmade petal by petal, very much to the taste of Marie Antoinette, the queen who revolutionized the fashions of the French royalty. In addition, as could not be otherwise, she is holding a fan, an essential fashion accessory of the time and a vehicle for secret communication. The example in this piece recreates the most sophisticated fans which were made of silk, embroidery and tulle lace. Covering her mouth, this lady with fine features and powdered face, is sending a kiss to her lover, a furtive kiss that escapes the tight control of the period.

Coquettish, refined and romantic… Lladró’s elegant ladies have now been transformed into lamps in the new Mademoiselle collection. The new chandeliers in the series combine different models of lamp and evoke feminine beauty in a fresh colorful language that make them as attractive when lit as when they are turned off.

Light filters through the translucent matte porcelain of the vaporous white skirts and projects the decorative pattern etched on the surface, producing a magical effect. Bright, saturated tones from the extensive Lladró palette were chosen for the decoration. They are applied by hand by the brand’s artists and with the characteristic glazed finish of the brand’s ethereal ladies. 2

PASSION FOR NATURE There is something instinctive about our love for nature. We surround ourselves with plants, flowers and objects that speak to us of the earth. Lladró recreates in porcelain the exuberance of vegetation in lamps and vases with whimsical forms and decoration, just like those we find in nature itself. The modeling of Tree lamp is particularly complex because it is hollow inside so that the light can filter through the porcelain, which is given an unusual degree of translucency in the hands of Lladró artists. The Peonies vase is a new canvas in which Lladró artists can give free rein to their creativity. Painted and decorated by hand, it is particularly noteworthy for its size and for the relief work, especially the plant stems decorated with golden luster, a highly complex technique in itself but even more so when applied so finely as is the case of this piece, which calls for the steadiest of hands.

ROMANTICISM IS IN THE AIR

Long before Brigitte Bardot stepped out of the crystal clear water onto the golden sandy beach in And God Created Woman and conferred Saint-Tropez with a mythical aura, the French Riviera was already the holiday destination of choice for the bourgeoisie and aristocracy of northern Europe. The healthy custom of moving to a house by the sea to get away from the heat of the city or the winter cold inspired Lladró’s new Côte d’Azur chandelier, from the Winter Palace collection.

Worth underscoring in this version with 12 lights are the marine colors and the toasted sandy tones. The warm quality of porcelain is further enhanced by the lithophanes, made in translucent porcelain that allows the light of the LEDs to filter through, producing a pleasant, evocative effect. A note of sophistication is added in the golden luster on the base of the lights, matching the impressive Bacchante with panther from the High Porcelain collection, Lladró’s maximum artistic category.

The Lladró Atelier team is now adding a new version of Dolphins’ dance thanks to this creative artistic exercise. THE CREATIVE PROCESS, STEP BY STEP DEEP IMPACT, A LEGEND IN PORCELAIN THE CHALLENGE OF GIVING LIFE TO A PEDIGREE RACEHORSE

When the Lladró sculptor Ernest Massuet traveled to the island of Hokkaido in Japan to see Deep Impact for himself, nobody thought that this famous racehorse would let itself be inspected in such detail. The sculptor was able to personally measure each and every feature of the wonderful physiognomy of this purebred English horse from Japan without upsetting it at any time. It is true that Massuet is a horse lover and well conversant with this noble animal, and that Lladró has long-standing experience in the art of depicting horses. But it is no less true that this is the first time that we have taken on the challenge of modeling in porcelain a living horse with such a pedigree. Deep Impact is a racing legend that filled stadiums across the world with his particular way of running, always starting last but finishing first, until he retired from competition in 2006.

Lladrรณ has reproduced the well-proportioned head and neck to perfection, as well as its wide chest, thorax and powerful musculature. It did so first in clay, the material the sculptor uses for the initial sketch that will later be broken down into fragments. These are then reproduced in plaster and the surface is etched with all the details of the ornamentation. These fragments are used to produce molds for liquid porcelain which, when set, gives life to each part of a magical jigsaw puzzle that the artists must put back together with extreme care. Decoratively speaking, Deep Impact by Lladrรณ is a portrait of the famous Japanese racehorse with its dark coat, its striking white hoofs, its facial features and its particular saddle. As we have come

to expect from Lladrรณ, its artists carefully outline each detail by hand with a steady pulse, using the most varied decorative techniques, until it is ready to be fired in the kiln. Technically, one of the greatest challenges during the process of firing such a complicated piece as a horse is maintaining its equilibrium in the kiln, sustained only on its four legs. During firing Lladrรณ pieces undergo a reduction of around 15% due to the loss of excess water. Ensuring that the proportions of a piece are not altered in this process is a true feat in itself. However, here Lladrรณ has managed it once again and the end result is a limited edition sculpture that reflects the values of nobility and singularity embodied by Deep Impact.

ME TIME PIECES THAT CONNECT WITH YOUR INNERMOST SELF. A FEAT OF PHYSICAL AND PSYCHIC BALANCE. Legend has it that hundreds of years ago the Taoist monk Chang San-Feng happened to see a crane fighting a snake. No matter how much the crane attacked the snake with its beak, the snake always managed to elude its deadly strikes. T’aiChi-Ch’uan, more commonly known as Tai Chi, came about from his observation of the movements of the snake. What was initially a martial art gradually became a form of relaxation exercises to achieve physical and mental balance. This piece depicts one of the most important poses of this art, the basic form called “the single whip” or Dan bian. On a sculptural level the extended arms pose a great challenge during the firing in the kiln. At over 1300º C / 2372º F, the piece loses excess water and reduces about 15% in the kiln, running the risk of collapsing. It is only then when the true miracle happens in this equilibrium-defying piece.

SAFEGUARDING TRADITIONS. PRESERVING BELIEFS. LLADRÓ EMBRACES THE MOST VARIED SENSIBILITIES WITH ART AS ITS ONLY FLAG. Traje de luces or “suit of lights” is the name for the finely embroidered costume worn by bullfighters. It gets the name because of the bright reflections of the sequins that cover it. This new maestro is wearing a suit with an elegant green background that reminds us of silk and decorative work in gold, the color reserved for only the most experienced toreros. The result is only possible with minute ornamentation which, in some parts of the suit, is pure filigree work. And pure art. The same art one can see in the veronica being performed by the matador, one of the time-honored passes with the cape. The pose and expression tell us that the matador in this truly singular piece is at the height of his powers. This is a classic Lladró in a glazed finish but with a decoration in saturated tones with lots of character. This limited edition is also available with the background of the suit in white, while the versions in red and black of the same piece are already sold out.

“The righteous Lakshmi adorns her veils with the new sacred signs” is how the Hindu goddess of good fortune, happiness and beauty is described in the Ramayana, one of the great Sanskrit epics of ancient India. Every May 5th Japan celebrates Tango no Sekku, Boys’ Day, a festival in which people decorate their homes with figures of boy samurais dressed in armor, helmets and other traditional attributes. Lladró has taken its inspiration from this age-old custom to create some of its most representative pieces of Japanese culture, to which this new Samurai Toy is the latest addition.
