If you host or can confirm a bike night, email it to Vernon@thunderroadsiowa.com with the day of the week/host site/town information and we will get it added to the master list. March, the month I mean…Not just the mindless trudging through the winter, like marching to a sullen drum beat. That seems to have been the case for a portion of the winter. This winter we have actually had cold, snow, sleet, rain, and general Iowa ick. I cannot complain too much, because the snow never got that bad, but bad enough it kept me off two wheels for the most part. March will be way different though! Time to roll! Spring starts this month, and we have the beginning of Daylight Savings time. Longer days are awesome, no matter what the clock says, so we have to take advantage of the weather when we can. The events listing for the year has started to explode, so if you have any events to list on the FREE event listing, get it to Vernon@ thunderroadsiowa.com We need the Event date/Name of Event/ Town the event starts in. Feel free to send me fliers, but that basic information is all that there is room for. If you would like some information about advertising your event, mention that in the email. We can help you out there as well. Main thing is to get things on the event listing as early as possible. If bikers don’t know what is going on, they cannot choose what to attend.
As far as events, come and see us at the Parts Girl Promotions Swap Meet in Cedar Rapids the first Sunday in March. Stop by the booth and say hey and grab the latest issue. Also check out the World of Wheels in Omaha March 15-17 and/or March 16th at Hawkeye HD in Coralville for their St Patty’s Day Spring Kick Off Party. They are a ways apart, but I think we are going to try to hit both! Why not, it is March, what else do we have to do? On March 22nd you can swing by the Spring Riders Night at Carroll Cycle Center. Events are starting to happen; bikers have the itch to get out, and will be doing so on two wheels whenever possible. Check out the event listing for other happenings across this great state. As you are finishing up your projects for the winter, or planning some spring modifications, or just want to go out and about and have a good time, don’t forget to stop in to the supporters of Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa. On a related note, we are also getting fired up for bike night season. It seems there are a plethora of Vernon bike nights to choose from on last year’s list and we have heard of more already on the way. We are going to be working through March to confirm the nights and locations of the bike nights all over the state, and then print that list alongside the event listing starting in April. Gottleib G ttl ib D ttl Daimler i l is i credited dit dit d as the th firstt successful f l builder of the motorized bicycle (or motorcycle) in 1885. Carl Oscar Hedstrom and George M. Hendee set out with the goal of producing a “motor-driven bicycle for the everyday use of the general public.” In 1901, they rolled out the Single, a 1.75-hp motorcycle that could reach a top speed of 25 mph. They also decided to roll out a brand-new trade name for their motorcycles; that name was Indian, and it was the world’s bestselling motorcycle until World War I. The HarleyDavidson eventually made its presence known with its sturdy, strong and durable machines. In 1908, Walter Davidson, riding what came to be known as the Silent Gray Fellow, scored a perfect 1,000 points at the 7th Annual Federation of American Motorcyclists Endurance and Reliability Contest. But 100 years before the notion of combustion engines strapped to a wooden frame with 2 wooden wheels, at the time when our great nation was just being established lived a man called Black Hawk. Chief Black Hawk and the Black Hawk War are at the core of the history of this part of the Midwest. Black Hawk’s name appears often in the Quad City area, and he is much respected for his bravery. It was because of his bravery and dedication to saving his tribe through the Black Hawk War that his name was branded in the early 1900’s on an unfortunately short lived motorcycle company based in Rock Island, IL, the birthplace of the great warrior chief. I know, this is the point that you double-check the cover, yes, this IS Thunder Roads Magazine of IOWA; but if you are familiar with the Quad City Metro area, you know that there is NO difference between either side of the Mississippi 6 - TRMI MARCH 2013
River (ok, taxes and gas prices, but who’s splitting hairs?!). It was also the deep rooted history of the Indian Chi f th Chi Chief thatt prompted a local group of people with a common interest in antique motorcycles to adopt his name as the name of their organization. As hosts of an event known as “the biggest & best motorcycle swap meet in America”, the Chief Blackhawk Antique Motorcycle Club members work hard all year to provide a weekend full of antique motorcycles of all names & brands, parts galore, speakers, demonstrators, vintage dirt track racing & educational seminars. Each year during the Labor Day holiday, antique motorcycle collectors and enthusiasts converge on Davenport, Iowa. Those in need of parts for restoration projects roam the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds where as many as 800 vendors from around the world sell or trade everything from nuts and bolts to complete motorcycles. Bikes such as Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads and Henderson Fours are a rare sight just about anywhere these days, but are common at this meet. Motorcycles and scooters manufactured by little known companies that went out of business during the Great Depression (or earlier) are plentiful at the annual fall swap meet. Last year this show definitely stood up to the hype that preluded it and the 2013 swap meet is gearing up to be the biggest yet. As the plans and vendor list are being finalized for the 42nd Annual Fall Swap Meet, I encourage you to find a spot on your calendar now, making sure you don’t miss out on one of the nation’s best antique motorcycle swap meets held right here, in our back yard!

CMA Notes
I don’t know about you, but it seems like we have an incredible number of friends who are going through really hard things in their lives: one friend has received a 2nd cancer diagnosis; another friend’s marriage is on the rocks; another friend’s dad was killed just before Thanksgiving when a car ran the stop sign and hit him on his motorcycle. I was thinking about how life seems like such a shipwreck a lot of the time and I suddenly realized the truth. Life seems like a shipwreck because life IS a shipwreck! Most of us know the story of the RMS Titanic, the “unsinkable” luxury liner that set sail from Southampton to New York City in April 1912. The largest ship of the day, she was carrying 2,435 on her maiden voyage. The Promenade Suites booked for $104,760 (2012 equivalent) for one-way passage and even her Third Class quarters provided better food and more room than most of those passengers had ever experienced at home; then came the iceberg. In a little over 2 hours, the unsinkable Titanic had sunk completely. Two more hours passed before the arrival of the RMS Carpathia, during which the passengers struggled to save themselves. Some made it into the life boats while many others clung to the flotsam and jetsam that had been part of the glory of the Titanic- a carved wooden door floating here, ornate furniture there, and even dirty chunks of cork from the bulkhead bobbing in the water – none of it capable of carrying the shivering and dying to safety.
The Carpathia was only able to rescue 710 people. 1,514 men, women and children perished that night.
According to the Bible, the Garden of Eden was a type of luxury liner designed to delight Adam and Eve, the first people, and to be a place where God could come spend time with them. Adam’s decision to do his own thing was like the iceberg to the Titanic; instant disaster. Every human born since then has been born into a shipwreck of a world. We’re all floating in the same cold, dark ocean, all grabbing at things that hold some hint of Eden’s past glory in an effort to save ourselves. Some of us are trying to stay afloat with pretty things from the shipwreck – respectable careers, good social standing, talent or looks. Others have grabbed onto less beautiful ways of saving ourselves – too much to drink, drugs to help us forget, hardening ourselves to everyone around us. It’s time to recognize that we need a Carpathia in our lives. And we need to understand that if someone from the rescue ship throws us a life ring and we slip it under our arms but are not willing to be pulled from the water, we will die of hypothermia right where we are. Are you reluctant to be bumped and bruised against the ship as you’re being hauled up? Are you afraid the rescue ship may sink, too? In Luke 4: 18 & 19, Jesus says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, and to proclaim that the time of God’s favor has come.” It’s time to lay aside fear of the unknown and accept the rescue that God has offered in the here and now. You’ll still get some bumps and bruises because we’re not in Heaven yet, but you’ll be on a ship that’s headed in the right direction. And this ship won’t sink. 99 Counties on the Wall
99 Counties to tour on the bike, 99 counties to tour, take one down, drive on around, 65 counties to tour on the bike. A few years back, a summer riding goal was to ride through each one of the counties of Iowa, and what was found was a wealth of interest and beauty. Each month we will revisit each county as a featured article. We will tell you about new things to see, places to ride, and give you a little spark of touring curiosity for our state of Iowa. Floyd County This month’s T featured county f is located in north central n Iowa, east of I Mason City M and a north of Cedar Falls. C The T county seat and nd tubers can enjoy spending time on Iowa’s first is Charles City whitewater course. It is located on the Cedar River and a it, as well in downtown Charles City at Riverfront Park. Many as a the county, is intersected by b highways 18, 27, 2 218, and 14. This part s of o the country is known to be very flat, agricultural based, and without a large population base, that does not mean there is nothing of interest here though. Over 16,000 people call Floyd County Home. Floyd County was established in 1854 and was named for Sgt. Charles Floyd of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, who died in 1804 near what is now Sioux City, Iowa, and who was the only member thereof to die on the Expedition. There is only one golf course in Iowa that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is Wildwood Gold Course at Wildwood Park. It is located in Charles City and this park dates back to 1912 and is historical not for the links, but because it was a Prisoner of War camp for German World War II prisoners. Wildwood Bridge is located on this course and offers some beautiful views of the surrounding area, and is quite an interesting stone arch bridge in and of itself. There is a very beautiful Veteran’s Memorial that is located in front of the Floyd County Court House that pays tribute to Floyd County veterans.. The courthouse, like many in Iowa, is also listed on the National al Registry of Historic Places. In Charles City, kayakers, rafters,, 12 - TRMI MARCH 2013
other types of park entertainment are available as well as a 9-hole disc golf course, stone amphitheater, play area, labyrinth, public art area, and trails to roam on. Makes for a good place to hop off the bike and stretch your legs. If you are into history, you can check out the Legel Collect Collection of artifacts from the Legel Drug Store in Charles City, Iowa. It is a fully restored turn-of-thecen century drug store. This collection co contains apothecary bottles, store fixtures, mixing / compounding / distilling / dispensing apparatus, medical appliances, general merchandise, and ephemera. It was donated to the Flo Floyd County Historical Society and opened as a museum in 1962. Colle Collection spans 1884-1962 and is

One thing really unique to Floyd County and the country actually, is the Fossil and Prairie Park Preserve in Rockford. This is a great destination as it is only one of three “hunt your own fossil” parks in the country. Visitors to the park can collect and take home Devonian fossils. The Devonian Period was also known as the “age of fishes” After digging in the dirt and rocks for a bit, you can hike some trails through native prairies and also check out some beehive kilns used by Rockford Brick and Tile Co.

Road Ramblings random thoughts of a scooter tramp On February 2nd Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog from Pennsylvania popped his little hog head out of his winter hole and predicted that spring will be coming early. Way to go Phil, this is great news for Iowa bikers! I am not convinced that groundhogs make very good meteorologists but anything that indicates spring will come early is Ok in my book. According to the calendar the official first day of spring is March 20, 2013. From that day forward the sun shines longer each day and the temperatures continually rise. For the Iowa biking community the first day of spring doesn’t mean a lot. But more sunshine and warmer temperatures means the same thing to all Iowa bikers, more handlebar time.

have a dreaming ability to see the beauty in a pile of rust in the corner. (Except for some Blue Oval circumstances) Anyway I just recently bought a 1977 XLH1000 Iron Head Sportster. Now I Here we are staring March in the face already. Just waiting for any day above 40 degrees to get the bikes out and go for a little trip around the block to kind of kickoff the season. Even if it means having to hose down the bike as soon as you are done to get that nasty salt solution they put on the roads off of your bike. (Which I strongly recommend, I have seen that stuff literally eat a V-Rod). Others might be just getting the stuff to get their rides prepared for the season or setting up appointments to get them ready. Whatever you do, wherever you are, give yourself plenty of time and don’t expect it to get done the day before it is supposed to be 60 degrees outside. It just won’t happen. Ok enough of the preaching, on to this month’s topic. For those who know me, you know that I am not afraid of vintage iron and

knew that I was going to catch a lot of flak from many

They were a really narrow and cheap set of low drag bars that wouldn’t allow for much control of the bike and the bushings were so wore out that they would move a couple of inches when you would push the bike. Not to mention the front master cylinder had a nasty ground down corner that also put a nice slice into the brake line. I knew this was going to be a fun project and possibly a pain in the posterior. So with that I grabbed

I knew that there were so many parts available to help me achieve what I pictured in my mind that I wouldn’t have a problem doing it with a tight budget.

Starting with the handle bars, I went with a set of Harley Black mini apes for $70 (I just can’t have too much chrome) and set them on the triple trees with a set of Tucker Rocky 2” risers for $45 and an upgraded set of polyurethane bushings for just a touch more than what The first thing I knew on the the stock rubber bushing

were. The nice part about the poly bushings is they will stand up a little better and will also take out some of the slop the rubber ones still have. From there I went to the controls up top. Now I probably replaced a few things I didn’t need to do which was mainly the wiring and switches. I figured while I was there and since they were 35 years old I might as well just replace them too. V-Twin set me up there for $40 you get all new switches with 40” of color matched wire attached to them which makes switching them out a breeze and well worth it. For the new master cylinder I went back to Drag Specialties and got a new CHROME
Master Cylinder assembly with lever, clutch perch and lever, and also my switch housings for $150. You can only get chrome switch housing for the newer bikes for that much. With the

taller bars I installed on the bike I of course needed to replace the cables from not only being a touch short but just tired of the service they had. I upgraded my throttle from the old single cable throttle setup to the dual cable setup for $60 including the cables. Now I normally wouldn’t be able to do this but the bike was recently upgraded to an S&S Super E carburetor to help it breathe better than the original carb setup. For the longer brake line and clutch cable I maybe had another $75 in it. I am extremely happy with the outcome and with the upgrades I have started doing I’m sure it will hold up better than ever. Now don’t get me wrong I know there are ways via the internet and swap meets that I could have done it on a tighter budget than that but then you are questionable on what you are getting and the quality of the parts. This is just the beginning of many things to come on the old girl. I know a couple of other guys that are working on some vintage iron of their own that might get a little attention on their rides through all of this. So keep your eyes out for next month’s article about more budget friendly upgrades to the bikes that paved the way for the ones that many of you ride today. Tony Darveau

So here I am, coming at you from the woman’s seat. Since I started working with Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa last summer, I’ve been asked “where exactly is the woman’s seat?” Right now the woman’s seat is the left side of the reclining couch snuggled under a blanket, with a stiff drink next to me. Thru the summer months, my seat is the back of a Road King Classic; yep, that’s right…. I’m proud to ride b*tch! Since we started riding a few years back, I’ve been asked numerous times “Eryka, why don’t you ride your own bike? You have a strong build, you could do it… c’mon take that rider’s safety class and steal that Sporty from your son.” Truth be told, I have NO desire to operate my own machine, but that doesn’t make me NOT a biker. I love the freedom of the bike, the smell of the road and the beauty that is ‘back roads Iowa’. Sometimes (ok, more often than not) I find myself allowing my mind to wander when we’re out on the bike, most of the time I find myself deep in thought as my husband maneuvers through tight curves and I don’t want to give that up. Let’s face it, even though the controls aren’t in my hand, most of us passengers have learned that we can control the throttle (and brakes, when needed) with a slight squeeze of our knees. Because I am NOT at the helm, I have a lot of time to think about the future, to take mental pictures of the now, and to remember the past. There is just something about the rumble of the pipes that immediately connects you to every other rider; past, present and future. Whether we are talking about the legendary riders of the past or the young ones who sport their shades, chaps and helmets like it was born into their blood, we all share one thing: passion. It is that passion that gives us the courage to get out on the road, absolutely nothing between our bodies and the road, just some protective clothing. to explore new places, a wrong turn is just a scenic detour in our world. It is also that passion that gives us the strength to never let the memory of a fallen brother or sister be forgotten. It’s March now, the snow is starting to thaw, annual events are beginning to confirm their dates on the calendar, we start on the daunting task of cleaning the winter’s dust from the chrome of our bikes, and the phone begins to ring with notifications of inaugural rides in memory of those who we’ve recently lost. When it comes to celebrating the life of a fallen soul, the biker community is hands down the most loving, kind and compassionate group of people out there. In the past, bikers were seen as mean, tough, rough, fight starting, beer drinking, law breaking, and any other negative stereotypical description one could come up with; thankfully, there has been a shift in that way of thinking and the people of the world are realizing that no matter what you look like, where you live, what your hobbies are, there are good and bad sectors of all walks of life. My experience with the biker community has been nothing but positive and I feel that the more we show the world all of the good we do while simply riding our bikes, the easier that negative stigma will vanish. Whether you belong to a bike club or you are just part of a group of people that ride together when they can, the motorcycle is our shared DNA and when a brother or sister is in need, we band together and help them through the hard times. As I stood in line to pay my respects to a fallen sister recently, I had a LOT of time to think. I found myself physically sitting in the pew of the funeral home awaiting our turn to join the line, but mentally I had journeyed off to the last time our group rode together. Donna had been courageously battling breast cancer for 3 years, losing all of her hair through the treatment process and was more times than not too weak to leave the house, but she never lost her prize winning smile. Her passion for life pushed her to get out on the motorcycle as much as she could. Instantly I had been transported from the sorrow of the funeral home to Prospect Park introducing the ‘crew’ to my favorite view of the Mississippi River. Completely un-orchestrated, we all sat in silence for a few minutes, taking in the scenery and the vibrancy of the day. Nothing was ever said about the silence, but you could tell in that brief moment of time our minds had collectively gone right to the thoughts of all the fallen brothers and sisters. As the youngest in the group that includes war veterans, truck drivers, great grandparents and office managers, I opened my eyes wide that day when I noticed everyone wiping a tear from their eye and/or clearing their throat to choke the tears back down. And although Donna will never jump onto her ‘woman’s seat’ again, we all know that she will ride upon our shoulders as an angel for eternity. As bikers, we will continue to ride to keep the memories alive of ALL our fallen brothers and sisters who have returned to their creator. Every day that we are given is a gift, we’re the lucky ones who get to experience it on two wheels; pass it on! Eryka

Our Mission Statement The purpose and mission of Kandie’s Kidz is to attend to the needs of our Gold Star families, Wounded Soldiers/Veterans, Veterans and their families. Kandie’s Kidz raises money through a variety of fundraising events, bringing to the community a spirit of giving, caring, and participation. Kandie’s Kidz keeps our veterans at the forefront in the community, raising awareness of our soldiers and their family’s needs.

When you have a Wounded Soldier, the needs for the family to be with their Soldier can range from kenneling their dogs, to helping with gas money, food and lodging. During one of Iowa’s biggest deployments, we helped with things such as snow removal, clogged drains, paying car notes and replacing furnaces. Webcams have also been bought and sent to Afghanistan so Our Soldiers can visit with their families face to face.

Brad stated “The weather just changed too quickly. Over there in Afghanistan, I guess the weather does that.” He and Kandie wondered for years whether the crash resulted from an enemy attack. “It is such a privilege for us to know Todd and talk with him,” Kandie said.. When Steve Koontz learned his and the Vaughn’s common connection to the Night Stalkers; he added the distinctive red arrowhead shoulder patch of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (Airborne) --- of which the Night Stalkers are a part --- to the top of the motorcycle’s fuel tank. The motorcycle also features a white U.S. Army star on the fuel tank the POW-MIA logo and other distinctive markings and military insignia.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $20 each until a July 20, 2013 drawing. The motorcycle is on display at Rydell Chevrolet in Waterloo, where Brad Vaughn is collision center manager. More information about the motorcycle and raffle is available online at kandieskidz.org.
Steve’s cousin, Todd Koontz, was a member of Travis Vaughn’s outfit, the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment --- the “Night Stalkers” --- based out of Fort Campbell, KY. Not only did Todd know Travis Vaughn, he was assigned to investigate the crash in which Vaughn was killed. “Kind of a small world,” Brad said. Steve arranged for his cousin Todd to meet with the Vaughn’s to answer any questions about Travis’ death. After that, “the bike was secondary,” Kandie said. STRAWBERRIES INTO HAZELNUT WHIPPED CREAM

STOVETOP ROAST CHICKEN W/ HOT BUTTERED NOODLES
1 Quart of Strawberries; pop the tops and rinse 1 Cup of Whipping Cream 1/4 Cup Sifted Powdered Sugar 1 Tbls. Frangelico, or Other Hazelnut-Flavored Liqueur 1/2 to 1 tsp. Grated Lemon Rind
1 Pound of Fresh Mushrooms 2 of Each Chicken Part; Breast, Thigh & Leg 2 Tbls. Cornstarch 1/4 Cup Water 1/4 Cup Olive Oil 3/4 Cup Rose’ Wine 1/4 Cup Soy Sauce 1 Clove Garlic, Pressed 1/4 tsp. Dried Oregano Cooked & Buttered Egg Noodles Covered & Set Aside
Beat whipping cream at medium speed with an electric mixer until foamy; gradually add powdered sugar; beating at high speed until soft peaks form. Gently stir in liqueur and lemon rind. Serve with chilled, fresh strawberries and dip away. STRAWBERRY CUSTARD TORTE
Place sliced mushrooms in a 1/4 inch of olive oil for total browning over medium-low heat. Combine cornstarch and water in a small bowl, stirring until smooth. Add next 5 ingredients, pour over chicken. Slow roast on top of stove for 1 hour or until chicken is done. Serve with buttered noodles. * My mom used to make this same recipe in a cast iron skillet, but she’d jazz it up by adding strips of green, red and yellow peppers and letting it all cook down on top of stove with a cover over 3/4 of the skillet to allow air to flow. Green chilies is a nice addition also. Any way you do it, this dish is fabulous and the key to it is slow and steady. Don’t rush the good stuff. SMOOTHIES 1 Carton (8 ozs.) Strawberry Yogurt 1/2 to 3/4 Cup Cranberry Juice 1-1./2 Cups Frozen Unsweetened Strawberries (1/4 c divided) 1 Cup Frozen Unsweetened Raspberries 3 tsp. Sugar or Splenda In a blender or food processor, combine yogurt and cranberry juice. Add strawberries, raspberries and sugar; cover and process until blended. Pour into chilled, fancy dessert glasses. Serve immediately. These are so rich, you can serve as dessert.

1 Packaged Quality Yellow Cake Mix 1/3 Cup of Sugar or Baking Splenda 1 Tbls. Cornstarch 1/8 tsp. Salt 1 Cup Whole Milk 2 Egg Yolks, Lightly Beaten 1 Tbl. Butter or Margarine 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract 1 Carton (8 ozs.) of Frozen, Whipped Topping, Thawed 1 Pkg. (12 ozs.) Frozen Sweetened, Sliced Strawberries, Drained and Thawed Halved Strawberries and Mint Leaves for Top Garnish Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using two greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Cool for 10 minutes, remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt; gradually stir in milk until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into egg yolks; return all to pan, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate until chilled. Place half of the whipped topping in a bowl; add strawberries. Split each cake into two horizontal layers; place one layer on a serving plate. Spread with half of the strawberry mixture. Top with a second cake layer; spread with custard. Add third layer; spread with remaining strawberry mixture. Top with remaining cake and whipped topping. Refrigerate overnight. Garnish and serve.

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed. She puts on her robe and goes down stairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front him. He appears deep in thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as hewipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee. “What’s the matter, dear?” she whispers as she steps into the room. “Why are you down here at this time of night?” The husband looks up, “Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 17?” he asks solemnly. The wife is touched thinking her husband is so caring and sensitive. “Yes,I do,” she replies. The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily. “Do you remember when you father caught us in the back seat of my car?” “Yes, I remember,” says the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him. The husband continues...”Do you remember when he shoved a shotgun in my face and said, “Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years”. “I remember that too”, she replies softly. He wipes another tear from his cheek and says... “I would have gotten out today!”

After taking away 52 Sundays, there are only 313 days left. There are 50 days in the summer that is way too hot to work so there are only 263 days left. We sleep 8 hours a day, in a year, that counts up to 122 days so now we’re left with 141 days. If we fooled around for only 1 hour a day, 15 days are gone, so we are left with 126 days. We spend 2 hours eating each day, 30 days are used in this way in the year, and we are left with 96 days in our year. We spend 1 hour a day speaking to friends and family, that takes away 15 days more and we are left with 81 days. Exams and tests take up at least 35 days in your year; hence you are only left with 46 days. Taking off approximately 40 days of holidays, you are only left with 6 days. Say you are sick for a minimum of 3 days; you’re left with 3 days in the year to study! Let’s say you only go out for 2 days...You’re left with 1 day. But that 1 day is your birthday. That’s why I did not study. Teacher: Class dismissed.

Don’t kid yourself; if we don’t do our job and contact our legislators then the nanny state will expand once again. First it’ll be helmets on kids under 18 on mopeds, then on all minors operating a motorcycle or as a passenger on a motorcycle. Then, “If it’s good for them, why not all” will take over and we’ll all be told we have to wear one.
Beyond that, a lot of serious injuries can take place that a helmet does nothing to prevent. We’ve all seen the guy on Another year, another new liberty limiting helmet bill.
