Message from the Chairman

“Housing is a basic human right .It directly impacts health, education and social well-being. There should never ever be choice for an individual between food, bills and having a roof over their head. Housing charity Shelter’s report claims 1.3 million homes are needed to house those in greatest need - including homeless people and those living with a disability. Another report says that three million new social homes must be built in England over 20 years to solve the “housing crisis”. Our housing system has been allowed the housing crisis to deepen to such an extent that secure and affordable housing is almost unavailable to working-class people and in many places middle-class people too There are towns where properties typically cost almost 12 times of the local salaries. But it’s not for a lack of ideas that this has happened. What we are lacking is the political will. Why are councils not looking at park homes as effective, affordable options for a growing number of people who would like to live in modern but manageable homes and enjoy the perks of being part of a healthy community too! Park Homes enable you to achieve quality with economy and deliver more value for your money. I don’t think there’s any reason why people shouldn’t be able to do that and because manufactured housing is so cost-effective, it frees up peoples’ capital more to enjoy a better quality of life”.

The art of

Feng Shui What you need to know to create a happy home! Feng Shui (pronounced fung-shway) is ancient Chinese knowledge that originated 6,000 years ago. To the uninitiated, Feng Shui can feel a little cryptic, but if you take the time to understand and read about the reasoning and the background behind it, you will be surprised to find out that it’s generally applicable, practical and intuitive. It is based on the principle that our bodies & homes are connected, and our homes affect our temperament and our well-being. Feng Shui allows you to discover the potential of your home and make it work for you. It explains how the placement of objects affects the energy flow in your home and that your surroundings affect not just your level of material comfort, but also your physical and mental health, relationships and success. We always hear of tips like throw out (or recycle) anything you haven’t used in six months, donate the clothes you haven’t worn in the last 2 years and such, you can call them Feng Shui tips or just sensible ideas to have healthier, happier homes! So actually, if we think about it practically, Feng Shui is just another way of de-cluttering our homes or doing a spring clean. Let’s take a look at a few handy tips for maximising the Feng Shui of your Park Home!

1. The Entrance of your home

2. The Kitchen

The entry and front door to your home represent the way you face the outside. It’s your first impression and as we all know first impressions make a big difference! The front door should be in perfect condition – to draw good energy you could place plants and lights on either side of the door.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home and it’s a place where the whole family gathers to catch-up, unwind and spend some time together.

A top recommendation for this part of the home is to make sure it is clean and clutterfree. This does not mean the entry must be completely empty; rather it’s about keeping only what you need there. So if it’s winter, it makes sense to hang your scarf, hat, and coat there. Feng Shui says that your door number is clean, hung straight, and easily visible. Auspicious opportunities need clear signage to find you!

4

It it considered bad Feng Shui for the location of the kitchen to be either under the bathroom or facing a bathroom door (a bathroom door in proximity to the oven or kitchen island is the worst). The reason here involves plain common sense (and scents) since you do not want the odours of the bathroom to mingle with the aroma of food! If there is a space above your kitchen upper cabinets, there’s a Feng Shui adjustment for you! Place some lighting, green plants (live or very realistic looking) or beautiful and loved objects in this location. These objects bring life to this area and transform the energy.

It’s time for spring cleaning, and a good place to start are the windows. The windows symbolize your eyes to the world. Go the old fashioned way - find some old newspaper, grab a bottle of vinegar & water and clean away the grime or just get some powerful window cleaning sprays and a cloth. Clean the windows & open your eyes and brighten your space.

3. The Bathroom

4. The Bedroom

Many people get concerned about the bathroom when it comes to Feng Shui. The idea is that the water goes out of the home here. Since water is related to wealth, no one wants money being flushed away. It is recommended that you keep the toilet seat cover down and the bathroom door closed to reduce this effect.

In general, it’s best to allow your bed to be placed against a solid wall, as this provides a feeling of support and protection. When choosing bedroom furniture, opting for pairs can be especially harmonizing like two nightstands (one on each side of the bed) is recommended. If you have trouble sleeping it or even if you don’t, it is a good idea to cover the television when not in use.

An important Feng Shui practice is to keep the bathroom clean and orderly. Not only clean but sparkling clean. Because the energy in the bathroom is a bit challenging, any lack of order or cleanliness can magnify the negative energies.

WYLDECREST PARKS

We had our lovely Spa Saturday event at Fangrove Park on Saturday the 15th of June. A mix of residents and prospective buyers attended the event and enjoyed being pampered in the lovely park home on-site. It was lovely catching up with the residents once again. Some of them were present at last year’s event as well, and they had been looking forward to meeting Mandie (our spa therapist) again. There was a fête in the local village that afternoon and most of our residents planned to head there later. The attendees could choose from a variety of treatments, from foot massages to head massages, facials to manicures, all provided in a spectacular show-home in the comfort of their own residential park. It was a perfect opportunity to relax and feel rejuvenated without venturing far. All treatments were free to partake in. The routine was held in our beautiful stock home which we had transformed into a mini-spa for the day with candles and soothing music and snacks and drinks. Our residents were really delighted with the experience and all of them expressed a desire that they would like more regular events like this in their park!

Held at the ever-popular Fangrove Park!

6

SATURDAY SPA-DAY! We caught up with our wonderful resident, June, who came in to get her nails done. She had come to our spa event last year as well and had loved it so much that she made an appointment for this year’s event as well. She has recently completed 3 years on the park and loves it! I had a quick chat with her to find out more about how and why she chose a park home lifestyle.

She had recently reached 3 years on the park and loves it! I had a quick chat with her to find out more about how and why she chose a park home lifestyle. She used to live close to Fangrove Park, in Egham. She sold her home when her husband passed away and initially intended to downsize, moving to Lincolnshire to be with her daughter. She lived there for a few years, until her younger daughter in Surrey started a family of her own! At which point she wanted her mother to move back to Egham, so June started thinking of options. Her daughter was the one who suggested Park Homes, as June wasn’t aware of what Park Homes were (she was still thinking of them as glorified caravans – a common misconception). Her daughter had seen the Park Home lifestyle already, so she knew

her mum would get all she would want on a park site. She asked June to just pop into Fangrove Park on one of her trips, and June was blown-away! She sold her home in Lincolnshire and moved into the park without delay. She says she has a lovely support-system at the park and values the company around her. She loved the Spa Treatment & wanted to know if Wyldecrest would be arranging something else soon as well.

They have lived on park for 12 years now. They chose to move into a park home for a sense of community and an added bonus of a safe, secure location with minimal traffic, and peaceful scenic surroundings.

We also met a few lovely couples who got treatments done together. One of the couples was the always fun - Lyne & Allen Elderfield, who have been on the park for a number of years. They had attended it last year too, and were pleased to be a part of it again! We got talking about life on the park and how it’s been for them.

We chatted with many other residents as well and will share them soon on our website. We are always looking at holding more events, and we will announce the activity and the venue (park name) shortly. Be sure to stay tuned to find out how to get involved!

If you would like to explore the park home lifestyle and see if it is something that could suit you, why not give us a quick call on 0330 1337300? You may be pleasantly surprised by how luxurious the homes actually are, and how friendly and welcoming the atmosphere on the parks can be!

PARKS IN FOCUS: REDHILL & ST. DOMINIC PARK Looking for a beautiful and welcoming destination that’s brimming with things to do, with a fantastic playground of beaches and miles of unspoilt countryside to explore? Dorset – a county of contrast – offers the very best of countryside and coastline, events and attractions, perfect for families and couples alike! It boasts a wealth of historic castles, fantastic houses and gardens to explore and enjoy. We have 5 gorgeous residential parks in Dorset, but only 1 has homes remaining: the lovely Redhill Residential Park. We caught up with our very friendly resident Mr Les Knowles, who has been on the park since 2010. Hope you enjoy the short chat we had with him about his experience of park home lifestyle.

What were your living conditions like before you moved to the park? I was living on a boat in Lancashire with my wife. It was a stressful, hectic life and we were looking at downsizing & retiring to a more relaxed life.

How did you go about deciding the park/home etc. Well, we were quite sure of the area where we wanted to move to. We saw this park, liked the plot & decided to reserve it immediately. We then chose our home.

come up as well. Another point I would like to mention is that these homes are much cheaper to maintain as the expenses for utilities are substantially lower than any other home. My expenses came down substantially and that is what we were aiming for when we decided to move to a park home.

How is life in the park? Why did you move to Dorset? Well, the main reason was to be with our children who all live around this area. The other reason was that it is a lovely area and perfect for leading a more relaxed idyllic life.

How did you decide to move to a park home? My brother already lived in a park home in St. Austell (Cornwall) and I liked it already. We could visualise ourselves in a similar home but in an area of our choice.

8

We love the convenience of managing a park home as well as how cosy our whole park is. There are just 31 homes on this park so literally everyone knows everyone. There is a lot of potential to make great friendships – it basically depends on how social you are. My wife has recently moved to a fullterm care facility and it’s a tough time but I have a strong network of neighbours and friends which keeps me going. I am also the resident manager so I ensure that I look after the park & residents and any issues which

How far are the amenities, entertainment options? Our nearest beach is Bournemouth Beach which is less than 5 miles from our park. The bus stop is literally 2 minutes from the park. The nearest Train station is about 4 miles. Our park is quite close to a lot of shops and amenities as I didn’t want to live in the middle of nowhere and wanted a home which had lots of options in terms of shops, restaurants etc. in decent proximity.

Les Knowles

Meet the effervescent and friendly Mrs Jill Ash. She’s been living on St Dominic Residential Park for the last 3 years and says “I wish I had done it sooner”. Where did you live before you moved, and why did you move? We used to live in Plymouth (Devon). We were looking at downsizing and wanted a bungalow-style home in a park. There was a home up for sale (the one which I live in now), so we decided to come and have a look. As soon as I entered the park – I had a feeling – I just knew that I had to live here. I had not seen my home or plot at that moment, but I told my husband that I have to live here. So when we finally reached our plot/home and I met the Sales Manager I told him to take it off the market.

How is life in the park? Couldn’t be better! My health which has been quite poor over the years has improved so much! I love all the park’s residents so much, everyone knows everyone – it’s like we live in a 1970s style neighbourhood. My husband always says that obviously there is the odd 10% who will always have a problem. But the rest of us get along really well. I literally hate leaving the park and I just love coming back! I love every single minute of my life on the park- every single minute! I have family who live up in Edinburgh & I have to go and meet them every couple of months. While I am away, everyone on the park tells me that the park feels really quite. I’ve been told I’m the life of the park! What amenities do you make the

most of, or places you frequent in your everyday life? I have 2 small, lovely dogs who I take for a walk regularly. It literally takes me hours every time I take the dogs out as I end up chatting with almost everyone! We organize a monthly get-together over lunch so that we can all catch-up with each other.

Anything else you would like to share with us? I have had one of my very close friend buy a home literally next to me! I had told her that if she comes to see it & doesn’t put a deposit down – I would be extremely surprised. She had some reservations initially as she was worried about park homes being ‘glorified caravans’ but actually it is the exact opposite & as soon as she saw it – she was convinced! I am retired and I just love my home & my park-life. I love listening to the birds chirping and catching up with everyone on the park. I am actually so passionate about the park & my community that my husband & I run a website: www.st-dominic-park.co.uk, which is about the park and various activities and news. My husband Graeme has set himself a challenge to run six marathons and ultra-marathons within 3 months to raise money for a defibrillator to be sited at St Dominic Park.

“St Dominic Park is nestled in a secluded valley situated just outside the historical town of Callington, Cornwall. It is a stunning picturesque estate with fabulous fields surrounding it, many woodland walks and a tranquil flowing stream running alongside. The park is entered via a private walled drive with fantastic rural views; many idyllic spots are to be enjoyed in the sun with relaxing sounds of the stream and singing birds.”

Everyone knows Everyone

PARKS IN FOCUS: REDHILL & ST. DOMINIC PARK (continued) My husband and I moved to St. Dominic Park, Harrowbarrow, Cornwall 3 years ago, this was the best move of our lives. The only way to describe it is like living in paradise. We are so passionate about living here that we set a plan to do something good for the community. My husband Graeme, came up with a crazy idea to run six ultra-marathons within 3 months, the final race being 100km (62 miles) to raise enough money to purchase a defibrillator to help save lives if ever needed. Through blood, sweat and tears he did it and we raised enough money from our amazing community, family, friends, the masons and park owners; Wyldecrest. Without all these generous donations this would not have been possible. I am so proud of my husband and feel so lucky to have so many people in our lives who know and share our passion for life at St. Dominic Park. More information regarding Graeme’s run can be seen on our local website: www.st-dominic-park.co.uk Graeme standing proud with the new defibrillator

I am quite speechless after this long chat I had with Mrs Jill Ash. I have seen very few people who are so passionate, full-of-life and do so much for their community as well. Jill mentioned she had been suffering from poor health (she had a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis) but since living in the park – her health has improved massively. Thank you so much for this heart-warming chat Jill, we wish you & Graeme all the best! St Dominic Park is in Harrowbarrow, Callington, Cornwall, PL17 8BN. We currently have numerous properties available for sale at this park. If you would like to come down for a visit, either to this park or other parks in the Cornwall area – please get in touch with us.

St. Dominic Park is nestled in a secluded valley situated just outside the historical town of Callington, Cornwall (3 miles) and about 14 miles north-west of the city of Plymouth. This well-established, popular park is surrounded by fabulous fields, woodland walks and a tranquil flowing stream running alongside. Leading up to the park is a private walled drive with fantastic rural views.

An Omar Newmarket is available on St. Dominic

10

There are brand new homes available to view on this park, including the Omar Newmarket (36 x 20, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) starting from £150,000 & more plots are being developed. The Park has had its Community Centre restored & the grand opening was on 3rd August 2019.

Celia also writes for the Mail Online with a monthly column on luxury Interiors.

We were able to have a quick chat with Celia about her interior design expertise, and what inspires her truly beautiful arrangements. Do you have a signature look? My signature look is glamorous, cool, sophisticated and stylish.

What inspires you? My inspiration is nature, whether it be looking at the way tall grasses blow and the change of texture when it does, which makes me imagine a beautiful silk rug, or the way the light falls over the sea, how the contrast and colours change, and I bring that in to my interior design creating lighting that replicates what is naturally out there.

What elements define your style? Mixing texture, and adding a star piece. So for instance, I love having a great mix of velvets, satins, crystal, onyx , chrome , whatever it may be, but the mix is incredibly important. If I was to choose to use similar textures throughout, it is creating a boring interior , however by mixing them up, perhaps a glass table top with an onyx box sitting on top, or mother of pearl dishes, suddenly it creates a palate of interest.

What do you find most challenging about designing a home? The people who own them! I love designing for people but you can find that some couples never agree, which makes it very tricky, or in fact they underestimate the importance of what you do. The interior designing of a home is incredibly important . It is about how the couple live, the flow, what makes them feel good, functionality and aesthetics which are both equally important.

What is the strangest request you have received? OOh one which I managed to talk someone out of. It was a home bar area, they wanted leopard print wallpaper on the walls and a mirrored column (I hasten to add not a pole!) in the centre. The house in essence was actually very sophisticated and this room was not in the cellar, or out of the way, so it was a bit of an eye sore in my mind. I managed to convince them that it would ruin the aesthetics of the rest of the house unless if they really wanted it, we managed to make the room on a floor lower down so that it wasn’t in the main area. I have

17

also been asked to design a dungeon for a female client… let’s just say I found it opened my eyes somewhat!

What aspect of interior designing do you like the most? I like it when the clients come back and tell you they love what you have created for them. I have some clients who contact me every year and say ‘we still love what you created for us’ years later, which is lovely. Which has been your favourite project so far? I love them all, it doesn’t matter if they have big budgets or small, they are all fun, aviation, restaurants , large residences, or smaller apartments , all great to design.

If someone wants to start a makeover for their home, what would you recommend as the first step? Don’t go too drastic. If you like red, get accessories first, so that you don’t have to re-paper that wall you made your focal point. Make sure you think about longevity if you are spending a lot, things date and then end up costing you money to change so really think about trying a few small things first especially if it is in your colour scheme and then go for it!

What is your favourite accessory? A faux-fur throw. Although I have tons of favourites , I love my hurricane lamps, art, cushions , but the throws I cannot live without.

What is your favourite colour scheme? Very dark! I love a bit of drama. I have worked on many different feels , some with light and airy, some with mid range colour, or just accent colours, but my absolute favourite is the drama of dark marbles, and furniture! It is slightly masculine, but I do have that side of me so I run with it.

“It was a lovely day to get out and meet people who reside in the park, and to welcome in more.”

St. Cyrus Holiday Park Open Day - Saturday 27th July 2019

An Open Day for the whole family to enjoy! The purpose of our open day was to increase publicity of our park, boost sales, and increase relations amongst residents and staff alike. We started the open day on Saturday 27th of July by having teas, coffees, face painting, a bouncy castle and more, available for holiday makers, residents, and walk-ins to enjoy. It was a lovely day filled with excitement, good

laughs and an increased repertoire for our park. Kids from the surrounding neighbourhood came to join in on the festivities. This created a very welcoming atmosphere. We were complimented on the cleanliness of our park by many visitors. This highlighted how proud we are of St. Cyrus Holiday Park and we would like to showcase it more!

A Sunny day in Scotland! It was a lovely sunny day on the Saturday. The forecast was originally perceived to be cloudy and rainy but we were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed by the sunshine. We had creative minds at the face painting table. One girl requested that we use all of the colours that were on the table to transform her into a magical cat! The Bouncy castle that we provided was a hit - the kids had fun all afternoon amusing themselves

while the adults could relax and enjoy each other’s company. Walk-ins enjoyed one-on-one tours with our manager and associated staff in the sunshine. They complimented the outstanding scenery St Cyrus Park has to offer. We finished the day by having an Owner’s Party to celebrate the residents of our park. We are looking forward to the next open day greatly. Be sure to visit if you’re around!

Baking: Pimm’s Cake Pimm’s Cake Ingredients

Syrup & Glaze Ingredients

200g (7oz) Softened, unsalted butter – plus extra to grease! 200g (7oz) Caster sugar 200g (7oz) Self-rising flour 3 Eggs 1/2 tsp Baking powder Finely grated orange zest 75 ml (30g) of Pimm’s!

50ml (2oz) Lemonade 50ml (2oz) Caster Sugar 4 tsp of Pimm’s Finely grated orange zest 8 Fresh mint leaves 2 tsp Seedless strawberry jam Fruit of your choice for garnish!

Preparation

• Pre-heat the oven to 180°C (160°c for fan ovens, or Gas mark 4). Grease the base and sides of the loaf tin, using some of the softened butter, and line it with baking parchment. Ensure the parchment runs up about 1/2inch higher than the edges of the tin.

Making the Pimm’s Cake

• Fill the bowl with butter and sugar and proceed to beat it with a hand-held electric whisk. Continue until the mixture is light and fluffy, it should take roughly 3-4 minutes. Gradually add the eggs, but beat thoroughly after each egg. • Fold in the flour, baking powder and orange zest, before adding the Pimm’s. Spoon the mixture into the tin and leave to bake for 55 minutes to an hour

Making the syrup and glaze

• While the cake is baking in the oven, add the lemonade, caster sugar and 3 tsp of Pimms to a small pan. Gently heat, ensuring sugar is dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil, before removing it from the stove, add the orange zest and mint leaves to infuse the flavour. Set aside to cool • When the cake has finished in the oven, proceed to poke holes across the top with a skewer. Strain the syrup into a jug and use it to drizzle over the cake. Set aside to cool on a wire rack.

Serving

• Use a serrated knife to level off the top of the loaf. Invert the cake onto a serving platter and peel off the parchment. Use a spoon to spread the glaze over the cake, and garnish with fruit. Sprinkle a few more mint leaves before poking straws for decoration, and you’re ready to serve!

Welcome to the Wyldecrest Swap Shop. Get something good, for nothing! A special gift to our residents - a website exclusively for the Wyldecrest Parks Family! It’s a simple idea, but an effective one!

Instead of just throwing your old stuff away, why not swap it? You might make some money, or maybe you’ll get something equally as interesting in return!

You know - one person’s trash is another person’s treasure! Find out more at www.wyldecrestswapshop.co.uk
