Chairman’s message

Christmas comes once a year and helps to remind us of the value and joy of our family, our friends and all that we cherish in this world.

It's a reminder, too, of the enduring power that Christmas has in bringing out the best in the human spirit.

The wars and an uneven economic climate have taken a toll on all of us. But Christmas is a moment to reset the clock, if temporarily.

It is a time to appreciate the richness of life and those here and who have gone who contributed to it. The new year and its challenges will come soon enough.

The message of Christmas is one of joy and hope that all can understand and appreciate. Come together to share traditions and festivities and I wish that Christmas fills your home with joy, your heart with love, and your life with laughter. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Best Wishes

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

'Tis the season to be full of Christmas cheer!

It’s the time to express our gratitude for what is right in our life and renew our hope for new experiences and surprises which the New Year will bring. We pray that the issues that divide us can be forgotten today.

That we will remember that we create our own joys and can always choose hope and seize that promise extended so long ago, in a manger in Bethlehem.

We at Wyldecrest Parks are what our residents are, and while we feel we are quite good, we will all aim to get better this New Year!

This edition, we include a quick snapshot of latest news from Wyldecrest over the last few months. We also share stories of some of you who have joined the Wyldecrest family recently.

May this festive season be full of warmth of love and smiles of your near and dear ones. Wishing you a Christmas that fills your heart and home with eternal happiness.

Best wishes, Wyldecrest Marketing Team

Susan & Olive: Friendships for Life

Our resident Olive recently won one of the prizes in our annual garden competition and it was actually her friend Susan who sent us some lovely pictures of Olive’s Garden to enter her into the competition.

I have been living in the park for over 30 years and it has been great!

When Susan moved to the park 4 years ago, she and I became good friends. Olive is the chairman of

the social club on the park and is always arranging fun things for the park.

Olive loves her garden. I see her work on her garden all by herself and sometimes her son comes to help her out. She maintains her garden all year and honestly it is so beautiful.

I love my friend’s garden and therefore entered it into the Wyldecrest yearly garden competition. It is really nice that she has

won one of the prizes!

It is so heartening to see such great friendships in our parks.

Park home living is indeed the perfect blend of independent living while having the support and comfort of a great set of neighbours and friends at hand.

Of Adventures and New Beginnings: My Move to a Park Home

My Broadband and Wi-Fi will be installed between today & tomorrow and that will be my move complete!

I was living in Kent about 250 miles away. I was looking at downsizing and having a fresh start and this home and area made so much sense for me.

I viewed the home in January and completed the move in the first week of November. The home was ready to move in when I saw it and I was ready to move in

The only reason it actually took long was that I had my flat sale fall through and it took the buyer a while to complete. The buyer had to pull out because his mortgage became impossible due to the rising rates. I finally managed to find a cash buyer and completed the sale fairly fast after.

I visited few of my neighbours after moving in and honestly, I am blown away with their kindness.

They have showed me around everywhere, even got me a ticket to the Christmas party which is at a social club at the end of the road!

I am really looking forward to the party!

I have now spoken to a lot of park residents now as I love to go for walks. The camaraderie is great and it is refreshing being able to just have a chat with so many people.

I honestly moved here to start afresh, maybe a new adventure. I love my home and the park and I am thrilled to start this new chapter in my life.

Paul and Beverly – Park Home Pro’s

It’s been almost three weeks since we have moved into our new Willerby Kingswood Park Home in Tranquility Residential Park.

My mother-in-law lives in a park home so we always knew that we would downsize to a park home. We also knew what to look for when we finally selected one.

All of our family lives in Buckinghamshire and it was quite a move when we decided to move to Devon.

We have a lovely sea view and our next plan is to get some decking installed around our home so that we can sit outside to enjoy the lovely views.

We have a Spaniel called Diego and he is quite happy with this move as there are so many lovely walks and beaches around. My sister lives about a forty-minute

drive away and it is great to be able to visit each other often as well.

“ “

We had a small get together last week where we met all residents and had a few

drinks. It was great to know everyone and we feel we are settling in well.

10

Stephen and Maria – our Bungalow by the beach

We first came to view Tranquility Residential Park roughly a year and a half ago. We were in Woolacombe and therefore just wanted to see what was available.

I have been coming to Woolacombe for the last 40 years and simply love it here. About 4 years ago Maria and I decided that we wanted to move by the sea.

However, we just didn’t want just a house near the sea, we actually wanted to SEE the SEA. So that’s why we were drawn to Tranquility.

We were really happy with the bungalow we see and the amazing Seaview actually did it for us and we decided to reserve a bungalow.

We moved from Worcestershire where I had a security design company. My team are now managing & running the business for me and I plan to retire next year

to fully start enjoying this new chapter of my life in Woolacombe.

Since I wanted to retire and this move was a way to make it happen, we knew that a park home was the right decision.

We wanted something which was more money efficient for us in the long run and we knew that bills and outgoings in a park home are so much better than in a house.

I had an open heart-surgery in November last year and at one point we thought that our dreams of moving into a park home would come to an end. However, fortunately I feel better than ever and this move I feel has come at the right time.

Our beloved dog passed a few years ago but we are hopeful that in the future we can have a furry friend to enjoy the beach with us.

Thank you so much Steve for sharing your downsizing story with us. We wish Maria and you lots of health & happiness in your new home

Don’t mess with Carol’s (Alfie) Roses !

We care for them and that is why Alfie got shouted at in Undercover Big Boss. We obviously didn’t know it was Alfie but had it been the Queen she would have also been shouted at! No one can mess with Carol’s Roses.

Meet John & Carol, lovely residents of our Penwortham Residential Park in Preston, Lancashire.

We have lived in Penwortham Residential Park for 16 years now and love every minute of it. We have a lovely garden which is all around our home and love it.

They say Roses grow on you and they have on us.

We have 2 big Rose beds at the front Roses in the rear garden when both our doors are open the sent of the roses drift through the house and at one side of the house there another garden which is our wildlife garden for hedgehogs, birds, squir-

rels, frogs with other various plants and yes more Roses.

We have built some veg beds in our rear garden and now grow potatoes, cabbages, parsnips etc all we need to live on and share with neighbours.

The amount of people who enter the park always stop and take photos and ask if they can have a smell of

the roses no doubt carol will find some where else to plant more.

You can sometimes even see Bell & Charlie with their nose stuck in a Rose! We have over 200 roses in our garden.

“Take time to smell the roses”

Latest judgments

Snapshot of a few recent judgements in our favour by the Honourable courts. Wyldecrest Park (applicant) had appealed to the courts over the refusal of the payment of the increased pitch fees by some residents (respondents).

The reviewed pitch fee proposed by the Applicant has been calculated by reference to the RPI percentage increase in the 12 months prior to the review

Judgement:

The Tribunal does not find that there has been a deterioration in the condition of the park or its amenities since the last pitch fee review which would justify a departure from the general rule that pitch fees increase annually in line with changes to the Retail Prices Index.

Respondents were from the following parks

Lamaleach park, Preston Bridgend Park, Wooler

In another landmark judgement in AN APPEAL AGAINST A DECISION OF THE FIRST-TIER TRIBUNAL

(PROPERTY CHAMBER)

BETWEEN: WYLDECREST PARK (MANAGEMENT) LTD Appellant -andTONY TURNER Respondent

The honourable Deputy Chamber President gave the below judgement

“ I therefore reject each of Mr Turner’s arguments; his application did not raise any question under the Act or the agreement and in my judgment, therefore, the FTT did not have jurisdiction in this case to order Wyldecrest to provide a statement of account and I set aside its decision and dismiss Mr Turner’s application”

Our Park Home Move: wish we had done it sooner….

We welcome the lovely Mr & Mrs Noyce to their brand-new Omar Westbury Park home in our popular family park –Cranbourne Hall residential park in Winkfield, Windsor

“We lived in a three-bed house in Slough. We raised our family there but once our children moved out, we had been looking into downsizing to a bungalow.

We definitely wanted something on one level as the stairs started to become a bit too much.

After looking around for homes on the market, we soon realised how expensive properties in this area are. We wanted to stay local as all our family are friends live in this area

So we started looking into other options and came across the idea of park homes. We looked into several parks in the area but liked the idea of a new home

We also needed a small garden that could accommodate our prince (Our lovely Support dog)

We have so many family members including our children that live in the surrounding areas, a 20-minute drive at the max.

Our new home is lovely and we have now settled in well.

We have been made to feel so welcome by many residents on the park, everyone seems so friendly and eager to say hello, especially during an eve-

ning walk with Prince. We simply love the park and wish we would have made the move years ago"

Cranbourne is an extensive, well-established family park is ideally located in the Thames Valley, between Ascot, Windsor and Maidenhead and offers a rural retreat that’s just a stone’s throw from local amenities.

Downsizing Is the Key to Happiness

have employed some groundworkers to sort out a garden area and provide fence, gates, steps, paving stones, astro turf etc.

We have planted many pots with plants and flowers and our garden now looks wonderful and has been admired by many residents on the site.

There is not much actually to do on the site itself but we have made a number of friends. There is a thatched pub over the road we have been to several times. A couple we are friends with go with us sometimes to this pub for Sunday dinner!

We lived in a detached house in Norden, near Rochdale, Lancs, in the North of England. We are both retired and considered selling up and moving into a Park Home.

We also wanted to live in a place with a warmer climate and visited Paignton in Devon.

We discovered there was a

Park Home site called Beechdown Park that had vacant plots.

In April 2021 we viewed the plots available and decided to purchase an Omar Newmarket home to put on Plot 3. In December 2021 we moved into our brand-new Home.

Since then we have had a decking area built and we

The Park is situated ideally and is only 2 miles from the seafront. There are several supermarkets and plenty of places nearby to visit. We love it here and so does our dog Waffle!

10 New Year’s Traditions from Around the World

1. United States: Watching the ball drop

Millions of Americans gather around their television sets (or on the streets of Times Square, despite freezing temps) to watch the ball drop at the stroke of midnight each year. Kicking off in 1907 to ring in January 1908, New York Times owner Adolph Ochs created the event to draw attention to the Times’s new headquarters, and it’s been an annual spectacle and one of the most popular New Year’s Eve celebrations ever since.

2. Brazil: Heading to the beach

“In Brazil, people usually go to the beach since it’s the summer there. Immediately after midnight, you’re supposed to jump seven waves while making seven wishes,” says Hudson Bohr, a Brazilian photographer based in NYC. The tradition is rooted in paying homage to Yemanja, the goddess of water. “Before you get in the water, you’re supposed to wear all white, as it symbolizes purity.

3. Spain: Eating 12 grapes

The Spanish start off their new year by eating 12 grapes, which symbolize each strike of the clock. The tradition of las doce uvas de la suerte started in the late 19th century and is believed to ward off evil while boosting your chances of a prosperous and lucky new year. However, this will work only if you manage to eat all of the grapes in a matter of seconds since they need to be gone by the time the clock finishes striking midnight.

4.

Japan: Eating soba noodles

People in Japan kick off the new year by eating a warm bowl of soba noodles. The tradition dates back to the Kamakura period and is tied to a Buddhist temple giving out the noodles to the poor. Because the long thin noodles are firm yet easy to bite, it is believed eating them symbolizes a literal break away from the old year.

5. France: Feasting with Champagne

While the notion of drinking wine in France is about as groundbreaking as florals for spring, the French up the ante and go all out on Champagne to celebrate the new year. There is usually plenty of dancing and party hopping, but this year gatherings will likely be virtual (it’s Zoom season, the holiday edition). The food choices, however, remain the same: sparkling wines are paired with oysters, turkey, goose, or a Cornish hen.

6. Denmark: Throwing old plates

Chucking plates at your friends usually signals a conversation gone very wrong. In Denmark, however, New Year’s Eve traditions like this bring your loved one’s good luck. Tradition has it that the more broken kitchenware you accumulate on your door step, the better off you’ll be.

7. Canada: Going ice fishing

Freezing temps don’t keep Canadians from starting the new year with a winter favourite sport—ice fishing. According to Global News, families will rent heated huts and cooking equipment so that they can enjoy their feast with loved ones on the spot.

8. Philippines: Serving 12 round fruits

On New Year’s Eve, families in the Philippines make sure to serve 12 round fruits, like apples, grapes, and plums, which are believed to represent prosperity due to their shape, which mirrors coins. As for the lucky number, each fruit represents one month out of the year.

9. Greece: Hanging an onion outside the door

Not only are onions a kitchen staple, they can also bring you good luck for the new year ahead. In Greece it’s tradition to hang an onion outside your door. Believed to symbolize fertility and growth (thanks to its ability to sprout on its own), the onion is hung on the door after church service on New Year’s Day.

10. Ireland: Banging bread against the walls

To ward off evil spirits, families in Ireland make way for a healthy and prosperous new year by banging loaves of Christmas bread against the walls and doors throughout the home.

A sense of belonging and peace of mind

It’s almost three weeks ago that Susan & I moved into our park home in Wilby Residential Park. It has been great till now and we are settling in quite well.

Susan sadly suffered a stroke last year and we started finding our 3-bedroom townhouse very difficult to manage. It was difficult to move around for her as well and we actively started looking for downsizing options.

We found out about park homes and how they are luxury bungalows with

everything on one floor and parking next to the home as well.

Our house was in Ashford, Kent but we wanted to move to Northamptonshire. The reason was to be near our dear daughter who is less than 20 minutes away

The Park location and the home suited us perfectly and we feel we should have done this much earlier.

We were initially worried about moving away from where he have lived for a long time but it was just

nerves and we are so happy we made the move.

We have made so many friends, everyone is really helpful and friendly and we look forward to Christmas in out lovely park home"

Trevor.

Thank you so much Trevor, we wish Susan and you lots of health and happiness in your new home

In 2023, the movements of Saturn and Jupiter may bring some major changes which would be a mixed bag, some of them can be helpful and some of them might need your attention and caution. Saturn might influence your connection with foreign countries, your expenditures and financial gains, your social connection and also the inclination towards spirituality. At the beginning of the year, there are chances of recovering back which you might have landed to family or friends.

TAURUS

It has been predicted that Saturn, Rahu, and Jupiter will all play an important role in careers this year. This year, a positive attitude, patience, perseverance, and research will be the keywords that will come into play. In the first quarter of this year, it is suggested that you maintain patience and avoid being aggressive so that your plans can be carried out. The year 2023 may also be advantageous in terms of promotion and the new job. Duality runs in your character. So, how about reshaping yourself to embrace the best in the year? The Gemini yearly horoscope 2023 predicts that head-on situations can occur in front of you, where you purposely have to keep your duality aside and act patiently to solve the situation. The year will be prosperous for you. But, for the same to happen, you shall get everything into alignment. Moreover, you need to figure out what is the requirement of the time. People around you are definitely your friends but don’t rely too much on them, as planet Saturn will soon make you realise that you are better on your own and capable of doing everything on your own. So, even if your dual personality takes you in two different directions, worry not, as the planetary transits 2023 are there to help you, be you understand what is right and what is wrong, and make you successful in many areas of your life.

But, on the other hand, they also would want you to evaluate before taking everything on your dignity and pride. So, right from the first month, believe in the good things, but beware of the challenges that may be there in your life, especially, health-wise, as the New Year could be a little hard on you in terms of well-being.
