Spring Edition 2016 Published by Wyldecrest Parks Wyldecrest House 857 London Road West Thurrock Essex RM20 3AT Chairman Alfie Best

Yes, dreams do come true!

Managing Director Waseem Hanif Estates Director David Sunderland Editorial Enquiries & Advertisement pr@wyldecrestparks.com Telephone 0844 567 7300 Email enquiry@wyldecrestparks.com

Exactly a year ago, this magazine – still a newsletter at that time – was starting a new path: stepping up from an 8 page to a 12 page newsletter, with a brand new design and editorial team. Today, a year later, a 24 page magazine is born – we’ve given it a makeover and a new name but its “heart” is still the same: ours! And our hearts are fulfilled with a huge desire to celebrate, be happy and make others happy too. Therefore, this year will be all about that: celebrating our 15th Anniversary with all of you! We’ll be spoiling everyone with some awesome deals and promotions, prize draws, giveaways and competitions. We’re also preparing a really special celebration edition for our Summer magazine. The icing on the birthday cake is our recent partnership with Dreams Come True, a national UK charity that works hard to make dreams come true for seriously ill children. Throughout 2016, Wyldecrest Parks is proudly supporting this amazing cause and our aim is to help fulfil as many dreams as possible! But for that we need all your help too. So, in this magazine, you can find out how you can give your contribution to turn those dreams into reality! Hope you enjoy this edition as much as we do! Best wishes from the Wyldecrest Family

Together We Can Make Dreams Come True Wyldecrest Parks’ Charity of the Year! Wyldecrest Parks is proud to announce its recent partnership with Dreams Come True! Over 50,000 children access palliative care in the UK each year and it is Dreams Come True passion to reach as many of these children as possible. Now, that’s Wyldecrest’s dream too! Dreams Come True is a national UK charity that works hard to fulfil the dreams of children and young people aged between 2 and 21 years old with serious and life-limiting conditions. A dream can be anything really – from swimming with dolphins, meeting a favourite celebrity or bespoke equipment that improves daily life. Whatever the dream may be, the experience of fulfilling a dream has a profound impact on the children, their families, friends and carers. It provides a positive focus amongst countless hospital appointments and lengthy treatments, creating joyful memories for families to treasure in difficult times. Throughout 2016, we’ll be supporting this amazing cause with numerous fundraising activities! Alongside those, Wyldecrest Parks will be also donating £10 for each new Park & Holiday Home Sale as well as per each private sale. We will also contribute £0.10 per monthly pitch fee received. If you’d like to give your contribution as well and add an extra £0.10 on your monthly site fees until you wish, please write to our Head Office or email Doina Arnautu on accounts3@wyldecrestparks.com. 4

How can you get involved? If you have any ideas to help us fundraise, please do let us know. There are so many things you can do – running, cycling, quiz nights, dances, raffles, tea and cake parties! If you’d like to help us help this cause, please email us on pr@wyldecrestparks.com

Ben is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy along with other complex medical needs. Ben’s dream was to have his own iPad which was fulfilled in March 2015.

Sofie is 8 years old and has spina bifida and scoliosis. Her dream came true in October 2015 when she went to DisneyWorld Florida and met her favourite Disney Princesses.

Spread the message Tell your family and friends about this amazing cause and help us fundraise as much as possible!

“We’re so proud and happy to be supporting this cause, especially throughout a year so important to us, as we’re celebrating our company’s 15 years. We intend to do everything possible to fulfil the dreams of as many children as we can. Wyldecrest Parks hopes to have everyone’s support and personally I couldn’t be more delighted with this partnership!” Alfie Best, Chairman of Wyldecrest Parks

“Dreams Come True Charity is delighted to be chosen by Wyldcerest Parks as their charity partner for their 15th Anniversary year. Our work fulfilling the dreams of life threatened and life limited children fits so well with Wyldecrest’s ethos of fulfilling the dreams of their customers. We are really looking forward to working with them to raise funds that will make dreams come true for many very special children.” Peter Newman, Dreams Come True Chief Executive

Sophia, 4 years old, has cerebral palsy and recently underwent ground-breaking surgery to try and improve her mobility. Her dream of going to Disneyland Paris was fulfilled in June 2015.

Success at 60 plus And that’s it! The time has finally come! We’re unveiling some of the most desired secrets on how to be successful…after 60! “Success at Sixty + : 7 swift stops to your Superlife” dares you to banish limiting beliefs, to dream, to live well and large – to score all your goals as a Superlifer. Our editorial team went to meet the woman behind the book.

Nurse, complementary therapist and author, Jane Aireton, 67, always lived her life in 3D Technicolor and passionately wanted to empower and inspire, she says. And now she’s precisely doing that, writing to empower and inspire the 60+ age group. “All my life I have written for myself and now I have the opportunity to share my thoughts with others”, she explains. “For the last 15 years I’ve been a full time carer for my elderly relatives. If I had had the chance to read “Success at 60 Plus” when I was a carer it would have made a huge difference to me. I could have looked beyond my situation instead of getting bogged down by it”. In her book, success is all about being happy and fulfilled. “It is a self-help work book or, as I would like to define it, a superlifer log to success”, Jane states. She now has not only her own book, but also her very own blog. Straight from the Channel Island of Alderney to the rest of the world! And she absolutely loves it, she guarantees. Amongst many other things, Jane blogs about some people or some things that have inspired her in a certain way. “It could be an animal 6

sanctuary, dolphins, a couple who get married in their eighties or an elite runner from New Zealand…there’s so much inspiration out there if you start to look for it”, she guarantees. Jane has no doubt that these new ventures have changed her life. “For me, writing a book, having a website, blogging, facebooking and twittering have opened up a huge new world of lovely people. To live on a tiny island is awesome but to connect with other likeminded people all over the world has completely changed my life”. But…what does Success at 60 plus really mean, after all? (We’re all wondering that right?!). “Success at 60 plus is about rebranding and achieving the very best in our age group. We’re not middle aged, we’re not old, we are not grannies or greys or pensioners or even new 40’s (and we’re definitely not recycled!) – we are Superlifers in our own right”, Jane states. And there’s not much more left to say. Jane’s definition of success is all about rediscovering your talents, achieving your potential, doing what you do best and not dancing to someone else’s tune.

Her piece of advice for all of you? (Yes, we haven’t forgotten that bit either!) “Read my book, follow my blog and live your life to the full!” Visit www.success60plus.com so you do not miss out on any of Jane’s ventures and inspirational stories!

Loving your Golden Years Calling all the retirees out there! Do you have a different hobby that allows you to enjoy (even more!) the golden years of your life? Maybe you’ve decided to share your retirement time with others, offering your help as a volunteer? Or maybe you know someone that’s doing any of those? Then share that story with us! Don’t be shy! Remember – you can motivate and inspire others to do exactly the same! And everyone has the right to enjoy the best things in life, right?

Quality Time for Soldiers Wyldecrest Parks has just donated 5 holiday stays to be taken at Bockenfield Country, Saltmarshe Castle or St Cyrus Holiday Parks to Give Us Time, a unique charity with an inspiring mission – it gives British military personnel and their families free holidays. Its aim is to connect these families with hotels, resorts, holiday cottage owners and timeshare properties that have empty rooms, taking donated holidays and matching them with military families in need of rest, rehabilitation and reconnection after tours of duty. Launched in 2012 by Dr. Liam Fox MP, who worked as an Army medic and later as Secretary of State for Defence, the charity now has over 1,000 soldiers registered to its database. “Wyldecrest Parks hopes to positively contribute to the lives of those British soldiers and for that reason we’ve chosen some of the most relaxing holiday parks in the country, where I’m sure they’ll find everything they need to recover and to enjoy great moments with their loved ones”, Alfie Best says. 7

Spring Suggestion

Seafood Risotto

The Method

• In a large saucepan, mix the vegetable stock with the tomato passata, paprika, dried oregano and parsley. Season with a pinch of pepper and let it boil for around 3 minutes. Cover the pan and set aside. • Drizzle another large pan with olive oil and bring it to medium heat. When hot, add the onion, garlic, pepper and spring onions (leave aside some spring onions to decorate) and sauté for about 3 minutes, until the onion starts to get translucent. Then add the mussels and peas and let it all cook for another 2 minutes.

Ingredients: • 1 cup Arborio rice

• 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

• 1000 ml vegetable stock

• 1 generous handful of frozen peas

• 150 ml tomato passata

• 200 gr frozen mussel meat

• 1 tsp paprika

• 200 gr peeled king prawns

• 1 tsp dried oregano • 1 tsp dried parsley • Olive oil • Salt & pepper to taste

• 10 seafood sticks, cut into chunks • 1 tbsp light and unsalted butter

• Grated cheese • 1 small red pepper, (parmesan works cut into pieces really well) • 1 onion finely chopped • 6 spring onions finely sliced

10

• Chopped fresh chives to decorate

• Add the rice, mixing it well, and let it fry, for around 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently. Season with salt. • Pour two generous ladles of the reserved hot stock mixture into the pan, stir and let it cook on medium heat until the liquid evaporates. When the broth has been absorbed, add 2 more ladles of hot stock and let the liquid disappear again before adding more. Repeat this process until the rice is almost cooked through. • When reaching that point, stir in the prawns and seafood sticks, mixing it all gently. • Remove from the heat and add the butter as well as a generous portion of grated cheese. Divide the risotto between plates and sprinkle each one with the remaining spring onions, chopped fresh chives and an extra touch of grated cheese. • Serve immediately.

“The best form of revenge is Happiness” ‘Angel’ Alison Ward, 51, is an author, inspirational mentor… and also a smiler, as she says. Despite living on the Worcestershire/Herefordshire border, her voice reaches everywhere throughout her website and blog. Author of 3 books – “Awarded by Angels”, “Bringing You Back To You” and “Get That Friday Feeling” – she has been mentoring people over the last 18 years, ever since the event that has changed her life: a horrific knife attack that nearly killed her but that helped her see what she calls her “life purpose”. Wyldecrest Parks editorial team interviewed the author but, above all, the woman behind the books and the blog – the Alison Ward who loves nothing more than spending time with her husband and two boys, walking their red fox labrador Beano and enjoying the odd glass or two of Champagne, or “Angel Juice” as she calls it! When and why have you started writing your blog and website? I have been writing since 2010 and only started blogging last year when I took up the 30 day blog challenge, loved it and completed it first time round.

of action to take, tips and techniques that work to bring happiness, peace and balance in our lives. I like to talk of our purpose and that without it we can become lost souls - anything that raises a personal interest or passion within me really. I love to inspire others and was actually recognised with The Most Inspiring Person Award 2015 by Health & Happiness Magazine. Can you tell us a bit more about the event that has changed your life? The ‘Awakening’ was a horrific knife attack from a former partner. After attacking me in front of our 2 year old son, he was later found in a car full of carbon monoxide, thankfully the police got there in time to release my boy and save his life. Following the ‘Awakening’, I was in a deep tortuous state with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). No one could help me so I realised ‘the best form of revenge is happiness’. I then discovered lots of self-help techniques that I practiced to make me well again and very happy. I have been blessed to share these tools with thousands of people from around the world in my mentoring business and through my three books.

What do you usually write about and what do you like to write about the most?

You have a really inspirational life story. When did you realise that your life and the events you’ve been through could enable you to help others?

I write a lot about life issues that cause anxiety, I am known as the anxiety mentor by many of my mentoring clients. I write about positive courses

People noticed how well I became, how happy and with peace of mind. They commented on my positivity and how I am able to change a negative

situation into a positive. I call the ‘Awakening’, ‘the beautiful gift in an ugly box’. People say they feel so much better in my company - I inspire and give hope that there is always light. How do you recall the moment when you started writing and blogging? I started writing my first book in 2010 by being nagged by my clients to share my story. It took me 7 years (2003 was the first suggestion to write it) to finally agree to sit down and write “Awarded By Angels” first edition and only six weeks to complete it. “Bringing You Back To You”, on the other side, only took me four weeks to complete. With blogging, that was different: I love blogging but only started that last year when my agent suggested the 30 day blogging challenge. I loved it, my creative juices flow and I will continue to blog once a week at least. I love writing; it feels so very natural to me. How do imagine yourself in 30 years’ time? In thirty years’ time, I will be drinking a glass of wine at the ripe old age of 81, counting my blessings and looking back on my life knowing I’ve made a difference. I will have no regrets, just a smile and a face that shows I’ve lived, loved and inspired. I will be in awe of my life with my husband Wayne and our gorgeous boys Sam and James and our grandchildren who continue to dare to dream.

Happy Retirement!

Wyldecrest makes its presence felt in Cornwall and assists local Council Wyldecrest Parks is now the proud owner of 7 parks in Cornwall with hundreds of new residents. Since acquiring the parks and trying to transfer the licences, Wyldecrest has found a flaw in Cornwall Council’s processes and has been able to make recommendations to improve them.

to advise Cornwall Council on a process which would not only prevent this but be quicker and easier for everyone. With 12 new parks brought into the company last year and a total of 46 to run, I have realised that we now look after more parks than most local authorities”.

“I discovered that their forms were set up in such a way that could have caused an unnecessary prosecution against an innocent park owner” said David Sunderland, Estates Director of Wyldecrest. “I was able

With our knowledge and experience we have in running mobile home parks, Wyldecrest is happy to assist Cornwall or any other Council with any needs they have.

Dogs are welcome on Radcliffe Park Radcliffe Park is now a dog friendly park and we are delighted that our retired residents can now get man’s best friend for company. A new park rule came into place recently which now allows residents to keep dogs. For the last few years a small number of residents who are antidog have prevented other residents who want to keep a canine companion from doing so. “With the new site rules legislation now in place, we were able to consult with everyone on the park and the proposal was approved”, said Wyldecrest Estates Director, David Sunderland. “The Tribunal allowed us to go back to the residents and I am delighted that Radcliffe Park, located on the banks of the River

Sixty years have passed since Arthur Kempster took the job as a maintenance man and 58 since he bought his very own caravan at the site where he worked. Nowadays, this park’s name is Lakeview Residential Park and it’s part of Wyldecrest’s nationwide portfolio – actually, it was the first park that Alfie Best acquired back in 2001 and where Wyldecrest Parks really begun. Arthur and his wife Jean still live there and they’ve been our Park Managers for more than a decade! But now, they’ve decided to leave their roles and truly enjoy their well-deserved retirement 24/7! We are all so proud to have had them as part of our Wyldecrest family since the very beginning and we would like to wish them both the best for the future!

Ways to be more active at home for free Lucy Locket is a Health, Fitness & Nutrition blogger and in this edition she shares with us her Top Tips to be healthier and more active at home, without spending a penny! • Carry shopping bags by hand Heavy handbags and rucksacks slung over shoulder are not good at all for postural muscles; they encourage a rounded back and shoulders and create an imbalance between the two sides of your body. In fact, in people who always carry heavy bags on the same shoulder, you can tell when you do a postural analysis – they’re lopsided! On the other hand, carrying shopping bags in from the car uses all the muscles in your body to stabilise you. Hold the bags by the handles with your arms hanging down by your sides, with roughly equal weight in each hand, and carrying as many bags as possible. • Get a pedometer Ok I know I said ‘for free’ but you can get pedometers for under £1 including postage on ebay so I think that counts! We all know we should be walking more but do you really know how many steps you take each day? Fitness trackers

and pedometers have this brilliant (psychological) way of making you more aware of trying to walk as much as possible. The numbers don’t lie and you’ll find yourself pacing the corridors while on the phone to make sure you hit that 10,000 steps daily target! • Clean your house This job isn’t nearly so tedious if you know it’s saving you a gym membership and getting your body moving. Put some effort in and give it some welly; you’ll get the job done quicker and the physical benefits will be greater. Stretch up to clean the tops of indoor windows, squat and crouch to wipe the skirting boards or scrub the floor, tone up your shoulder muscles with a good resistance workout wiping and polishing, and hoover and mop at speed to get your heart rate up!

especially good if you have kids who a) own a tonne of plastic rubbish they never play with and b) grow out of their clothes fast. You’ll be amazed how all that sorting, bagging, lifting, emptying and tidying involves almost every body movement – bending, stretching, lifting, dragging and carrying. It’s immensely satisfying to suddenly have space in your cupboards once more, and if you give unbroken things to charity you’ll be doing a good turn too.

• Have a clear out We tend to use the phrase ‘Spring Cleaning’ but I prefer to have a good sort through all our ‘stuff’, as old, broken, unwanted junk gets replaced with shiny new presents. This is

Alfie Best squares up for the pie industry Wyldecrest Parks’ Chairman has just invested into Eat Square, a local pie company based in Wiltshire. Alfie Best has acquired 40% of this food business founded by Alex Joll in October 2014. About one of his most recent ventures, Alfie Best explains: “I’ve invested once before into a business close to my heart – nowadays, Wyldecrest Parks is about to become the biggest park home operator in the UK and we’re already planning an overseas expansion. That’s why I’ve invested into Eat Square! I believe that when you love what you do and when you know what you’re doing, you have some of the most important keys to succeed in your hands – and Alex does know exactly what he’s doing and he loves it!” What about the pies then? “The pies are really, really amazing”, Alfie Best guarantees. “They have that nostalgic feeling of childhood in every single bite, that rustic and traditional taste!”

The company has recently employed two new staff members, bought new equipment and has also invested in its production facility. Now both Alfie and Alex intend to grow their output and increase the team even more, by hiring at least 10 new local employees. By the end of this year, their biggest aim is to take production from 500 pies a week to 500 a day. “I am really excited to be working with Alfie. He has repeatedly built successful businesses in the past and leads from the front with a truly inspiring enthusiasm”, Alex Joll says about his new business partner. “I’m confident that with Alfie involved, Eat Square will grow quickly and become a major and much loved premium pie producer”. The Eat Square founder got his passion (and his recipes!) from his grandmother. From the company’s kitchen at Woolley Grange Farm, just outside Bradfordon-Avon, they source products and

ingredients locally for their traditional and tasty fillings and they’re able to make many thousands of pies all by hand. And with the company’s brand new range of Vegan, Dairy & Gluten Free options, there’s certainly a pie for everyone! All the varieties can be found locally, in shops, markets and pubs, and a new online ordering service is now in place too.

Especially for you! Eat Square is offering all our readers Free Next Day Delivery on all online orders! Visit Eat Square Pie Shop at www.eatsquare.co.uk, choose your favourite pies and enter the code BESTPIES at the online checkout! The code can be used multiple times and can be shared with friends or given as a gift - as can the pies!

@myflowerpatch To get a flower meadow type feel, sow direct in straight rows so you know which are weeds; once they’ve grown a bit, it will look quite natural. For a smaller section, sow seeds into a circle with an X in the middles to give an idea of which ones are seedlings and weedlings. Sara Willman

@FromTheField How about growing plants that not only produce an abundance of colourful flowers but are also edible and will enhance your meals? – nasturtiums, daylilies, viola tricolour and chives are all delicious in salads; courgette flowers are delicious stuffed with cheese or meat; borage flowers frozen into ice cubs brighten up any cooling drink. Also plant fragrant herbs (lavender, thyme, basil, mint, camomile) along the edge of paths to make the most of their aromas when walking past and to make them handy to gather if using in the kitchen too.
