We have adapted to the changing environment very quickly, and our services will continue to be usable and accessible without interruption. Now more than ever, we must do the right things and be prepared to take steps beyond what we’re typically required to do: Protecting our people Helping others Stabilising operations to a new normal Planning for the future As we navigate these difficult times together, I hope you’re able to find some solace in nature, in whatever way you can. Nature can provide us with tranquillity in tough times, it reminds me of how much we need nature in all aspects of our lives. Our thoughts are with the people affected and everyone working around the clock to help those most in need. Everyone at Wyldecrest Parks wishes you and your loved ones good health and strength in the days and weeks ahead. Amidst the pain that we continue to endure, we should find comfort in the stories of hope and solidarity, and continue to see the value in the positive, encouraging lessons that are emerging for our post-COVID world.

“You are the most important person in your life. Treat yourself well, love yourself.” Summer Edition 2020 Published by Wyldecrest Parks Wyldecrest House 857 London Road West Thurrock Essex RM20 3AT Chairman Alfie Best Managing Director Waseem Hanif Estates Director David Sunderland Editorial Enquiries & Advertisement magazine@wyldecrestparks.com Telephone 0844 567 7300 0844 892 7389 Sales 0330 133 7300 Email enquiry@wyldecrestparks.com

Be the summer you want to see. Don’t wait for someone else to create the summer you want to have. Instead get the ball rolling yourself. Take action, and the first small steps forward. Have yourself a picnic, set up a movie night when the summer rain is pouring outside. Take a walk or a run every warm morning to get your energy levels up. Clean those weeds & spruce up your garden a bit. Summer is a great time to reflect on the positives from your year so far, and to explore how you might build on these to make life even better for you and those around you. Everything in nature is blooming and growing, vibrant colours and beauty spreading all around us; like Mother Nature’s way of doing her bit to share the love. Notice how that makes you feel. Sharing is caring, and those little touches can change the course of a day in an instant. Think of them as tiny acts of kindness. To everyone in the Wyldecrest family; remember, whatever you decide to try, be safe and have a great summer.

NHS

SAVE LIVES PROTECT THE NHS The world was left stunned by the recent coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The virus had claimed many lives, particularly among older adults. Various countries around the world decided to implement lockdown measures in response, and a desperate demand was put on healthcare workers. Unfortunately they had to continuously put their own lives risk to help save others and combat the virus. Our very own NHS is filled with brave men and women doing just that. From the bottom of our hearts we’d like to thank the NHS for its service and thank the healthcare workers in all capacities for their endless selflessness and care during these uncertain times.

As the UK eases its lockdown, it’s important to remain vigilant, and to do the best you can to help prevent the virus spreading, or contributing to a resurgence. NHS UK recommends the following: • Wash your hands when arriving home or into work • Ensure you wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds • Cover your mouth & nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing • Bin the tissue, and wash your hands afterwards • Use hand sanitizer if there’s no soap and water • Follow social distancing measures

Moving to a Park Home – My Journey PARK IN FOCUS: WESTOVER PARK

- Part I Each resident’s moving experience is different, but each story provides great insight into what it’s like to begin your life with Wyldecrest Parks. We were lucky enough to hear the entire journey of one brand-new resident and his partner. From placing the initial deposit, through the move, until finally settling-in to their forever-home, and the park home lifestyle. My wife & I live in Birmingham in a town-house spread over 3 floors. We had been thinking about downsizing into an easier to navigate bungalow which didn’t have any stairs. I used to lay floors for a living buy recently have had major problems with my back. Basically my doctors told me that I had to stop else there were high chances that I would end up in a wheelchair. My wife has a problem with her knee & would need a new one at some point. Going up & down two flights of stairs does take a toll! We saw some advertisements for park homes & decided to research them. We searched online, saw Wyldecrest Parks & visited one of your parks which was near to us. It was evident that park homes were offering a very viable option to downsize & offered a good bungalow-style construct as well. After my research, I decided that we definitely needed a park home but in a park which offered more value for my money. The price of these homes goes up & down based on the areas & I was not actually fussed about being in a particular part of the country.

Based on getting more for my budget, we visited Westover Park in Whitland & not only did we get a 2-bedroom bungalow for less than our actual budget, we actually loved the park. The area is beautiful as well & we could easily visualise living in the park. We feel like we are going on an adventure as we don’t know the local area, don’t know anyone on the park either. However, I make friends very fast & from my visits, I think I will have a good circle of friends soon. We love travelling, whether it’s California to Hawaii to now Pembrokeshire – we can’t wait to explore new places. My home is now under offer & I expect to complete it in the next few weeks. I am hoping to have money left over in the bank after finishing the payment for my new park home & that’s a great feeling! The park home bungalow we have chosen – a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom, gorgeous Omar Regency bungalow is ready & waiting in the park already. We will be taking some of our furniture with us & basically we are just waiting for the moving day now.

Moving to a park home: My Journey PARK IN FOCUS: BEECHFIELD PARK

Let’s welcome the lovely Danielle Fray into the Wyldecrest Family, as she moved into a beautiful pre-loved Omar Colorado earlier this month on our Beechfield Park in Chichester. What made you choose Beechfield Park? I have actually always lived in this area. I knew when I downsized I would stay local; I lived about 2 miles from Beechfield Park.

Why Park Homes? I wanted to downsize to a more easily manageable home & also release money to give to my daughter for her wedding. I do two jobs, and I write. Where better for some peace & quiet than in a beautiful residential park like Beechfield. I am quite familiar with the area. We have a Tescos & Sainsbury’s less than a mile to a mile & half from the park. There is also a little shop down the road which is quite useful.

How is life on the park? My nextdoor neighbours are lovely & very friendly. I have made a few friends, everyone always waves at you in the park! The lockdown period has been quite peaceful & I have managed to start work in my new home. I have been weeding my garden & generally arranging everything. It was a pre-loved home but in an excellent condition so I haven’t had to do any work except just sort of decorating it & furnishing it to my liking! I am very happy & at peace in the park – it is a great way of life.

Danielle Fray

Thank you Danielle for sharing your journey with us. We would like to wish you lots of health & happiness in your forever-home.

Our beautiful Beechfield Park is a small, cosy park situated in the beautiful countryside, next to our other park, Aldingbourne. Beechfield Park is approximately four miles north of Bognor Regis and four miles from Chichester in Aldingbourne. It’s ideal to enjoy the area including sandy beaches, fishing villages, historical and family attractions, offering incredible things to do for everyone. We have a plot available to view for a new home in the park. Since it is such a popular area, new home opportunities come few & far between. Homes available now include a Willerby Charnwood (40 x 12, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom) at £149,995. More availability coming very soon.

The Omar Newmarket, a very popular home choice 13

Saltmarshe Castle Park A Dream Residential Development This spectacular project has seen the transformation of a former derelict castle into one of UK’s finest & purpose-built residential developments. This park has been created in the grounds of Saltmarshe Castle, a former country house and estate first owned by the Higginson family and then through the generations to the Barnaby family in 1946. Although the castle itself was demolished many years ago, parts of the outer walls and turrets still remain, together with various outbuildings, stables, ice house and cider wheel, making this park a unique place to live. Wyldecrest Parks acquired this site in 2015 & started the development process soon after.

A look back at development, and progress on Tower Court - the 1st home ever to be sited.

Then & Now The park has come a long way from where it started. The Tower Court Development - that began it all - is almost fully occupied now. The Castle Lake development has had its 1st phase of homes reserved already. The 2nd phase of plots is now ready with homes available to view & a selection of plots to choose from to order a bespoke home of your choice. Saltmarshe Castle Park has become like its own self-sustaining village. The Park houses useful facilities, many of which are run by the residents themselves. • Clubhouse: the hub of activity on the park • Shop & Café: extremely handy as always • Park Office & resident-manager on-site The park has been transformed, and continues to grow! 14

Premium Park Honours The Park has been recently awarded the Premium Park status by Wyldecrest Parks chairman Alfie Best. It is only the second Wyldecrest Parks park to be awarded this coveted badge among the 80+ others!

Premium

Premium Parks provide the very best in park home plots, facilities and park life in general. Their locations also add to their idyllic lifestyle.

“This park has been a passion for me – when I bought it, I knew it would transform into something extremely beautiful. It is like a mini-village & I love to visit it. I own more than 80 residential parks across the UK, but when someone asks me for some personal favourites – Saltmarshe will be high on that list.”

Alfie Best Chairman, Wyldecrest Parks

Living & Working Aging Well It has been suggested that engaging in mentally challenging activities in middle & older age can exercise your brain to keep you attentive, and engaged, along with other health benefits, both socially and mentally. However, some studies may suggest that having an active schedule that involves a busy lifestyle can be just as effective - if not more so - in keeping you sharp. A well-programmed lifestyle can be important in middle age as well as your old years. When someone moves into a park home bungalow – it is a financial and lifestyle decision. Say you downsize from a larger home that’s surplus your requirements, you also lower your living costs (in terms of going mortgage free & reducing your utility bills) and release extra money from your home which can be used to maintain other pursuits, such as holidays, time with the family etc. Moving into a park home doesn’t mean you have retired. In fact on the contrary, many residents like to continue a occupied life. So while you could continue what you were doing before, there are many opportunities for residents to take pro-active role in various activities on their park as well. We all know that the community on the parks is very strong as they organize and take part in various events regularly. The social element of living on a park is very well taken care of. It is quite natural & organic – most of the residents are of a similar age & mindset, and have moved into the developments for similar reasons. We also have various work/maintenance opportunities on many of our parks & we always like to offer them to our park residents first. Numerous residents have actually gone on to become our park managers and play a very vital role on their parks. A group of residents on one of our parks in Cornwall actually opened a community centre on their park last year: Four of us started working on this centre & it has taken months of hard work to reach the state which it is at. When Wyldecrest Parks’ chairman, Alfie visited this park, I asked him for help with this project and he very kindly agreed. We needed a place where we could get together as a community and with this community centre all up & running now that box has been ticked.

Colin Neave (Resident, St Dominic Park) 16

Ann Raywood is another active community member. Ann supports the residents, developments and improvements on Orchard Park, and she became Wyldecrest Parks Park Manager for Orchard Park a couple of years ago. I am always in my park, but the Wyldecrest Head Office team makes me feel very much included, and part of the Wyldecrest family. 2 years ago, I contacted the council who in turn put me in contact with the environmental health to improve some of the older units on the park, as there are some units that don’t have any insulation.

Ann Raywood (Resident Manager, Orchard Park) So through the love and passion for the park and her neighbours and residents Ann got the EHA to fit insulation into all of the remaining units. Ann works closely with local towns and the council and tries to help with the improvements around the park as much as possible. She is currently working on getting some solar panels for the park. Our parks’ locations are chosen based on & access to amenities, and opportunities they may offer residents. Many of the parks boast of amazing locations, like our Westover Park (Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire), close to the worldfamous Tenby beach & various other scenic beach towns. Or Orchard Park (Littlehampton), close to Aldingbourne Castle, Littlehampton beach and a number of lovely towns. Our brand new Premium Park, Rookery Drove Park is less than 1.5 miles from the lovely Aspel Close Nature Reserve, less than 4.5 miles from the very popular Thetford Forest Park & less than 7.5 miles from the Cavenham Heath Nature Reserve. Arranging walking trips, fishing or sight-seeing or just walking your dog are activities that are common for our residents & a great way to spend some time in nature. So when you move onto a park home development, you can actually spend more time in being actively engaged, making new friends, doing something new or continuing what you did before, but with community support behind you etc. It’s really about making it your own. There’s no limit to the possibilities and it’s never too late to start. Just keep yourself busy, no matter how old you are.

St Dominic Park rests in a secluded valley just outside the historical town of Callington, Cornwall and about 14 miles from the city of Plymouth. The park is surrounded by fabulous fields, woodland walks and a flowing stream running alongside. It is a popular destination and is close to the National Trust landmarks of Cotehele, Cotehele Mill and Quay in the Tamar Valley.

An Omar Newmarket is available on St Dominic Park.

There are brand new homes available to view on this park, including an Omar Newmarket (36 x 20, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) starting from £164,995 & the luxurious Stately Albion Topaz (50 x 20, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms), with more availability and plots being developed, coming very soon. 17

Moving to a Park Home – My Journey PARK IN FOCUS: WESTOVER PARK

- Part II We caught up with Mr Johnson a week after he had moved into his Regency park home, on Westover Park. Since we last spoke, Thomas & Lorraine had managed to attune themselves to the park perfectly, but they still have bits left to do. They were kind enough to chat (in-between all the unpacking). Here’s the reassuring conclusion to the Johnson’s move. It’s been a great week. Obviously the lockdown situation isn’t ideal but we have boxes to unpack & settle so we have been rather busy. We are waiting to sort out a shed on our plot to get some additional storage for our garden things & some other bits & pieces. We have managed to meet up & have a chat (from a safe distance) with many of the park residents – everyone is super friendly & so helpful! Literally everyone tries to help everyone – it’s a very reassuring feeling. I have been helping out by cutting all the grass around my plot as well – just making sure the whole park looks as good as possible!

We are both looking forward to a peaceful retirement & even though we haven’t managed to venture out to trips yet, we are hopeful of having a great summer. We are also looking forward to our family visiting soon as well. Since we bought a preloved home, we want to get our carpets changed. My son & nephew will be helping us to lay the new carpets & hopefully we can sort that out soon. Other than that all good – we love the move & we look forward to normal life after the lockdown & start exploring everything that this beautiful place has to offer.

Mr Thomas Johnson

Nestled halfway between the historic, bustling town of Carmarthen and the famous sunny beach towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot lies our lovely Westover Residential Park. The small town of Whitland, where the park is situated, takes its name from a Cistercian abbey from the medieval period and it will provide you with everything you need for your day-to-day needs. There are brand new homes available to view on this park, including an Omar Newmarket (36 x 20, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) starting from £149,995 & the affordable Wyldecrest exclusive model; the Omar Westbury (40 x 20, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms), with more availability and plots being developed. Summer Sun Recipes Tangy Lemon Curd & Orange Cake Ingredients

150g Caster sugar 170g Soft, salted butter 2 Eggs 70g Natural yoghurt 150g Self-raising flour 50g Ground almonds Orange Zest 2-3 tbsp Milk 10 tbsp Lemon curd Lemon zest for garnish Optional: 20g Flaked almonds

Method Grease a 1lt cake tin with butter and line it with the baking parchment. Preheat the oven to 180°c (160°c fan ovens/gas mark 4). Mix the butter, sugar and eggs with the self-raising flour in a large bowl. Add the ground almonds, milk and orange zest, followed by 5 tbsp of lemon curd. Whisk the entire mixture until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk the remaining 5 tbsp of lemon curd until loosened and soft.

These suggestions work well for time in the sun or for pick-me-up after spending time working on the garden.

Refreshing Homemade Blackcurrant Cordial Ingredients

300g Caster sugar Lemon juice & zest 2 Lemons 450g Blackcurrants

Method Add sugar to the saucepan with 300ml water. Allow to simmer before you add the lemon zest and juice, followed by the blackcurrants. Switch to a medium heat until you see the blackcurrants rupture. Sieve the mixture through a muslin sheet into a ready jug. When stored correctly, the cordial should keep in the fridge for up to 1 month. When serving, add approximately 25ml of cordial per 100ml of chilled water. Add your preferred garnish for a delightful drink.

Pour half the mixture into the cake tin. Smear all of the lemon curd on top, and follow up with the remaining batter. Sprinkle the flaked almonds if you’d like. Bake for 50 minutes or until fully risen and golden. Then leave to cool on a wire rack. When fully cooled, scatter over lemon zest for garnish and serve.

What you’ll need: • Scraps of fabric, varied patterns work better • 7 Pipe cleaners • Wax paper

Something to try Posable Flowers

Bring some floral creativity indoors with these flexible flower crafts. They look fantastic planted in grass alongside the real deal.

• Small polystyrene ball • Small circular object for decoration, i.e. a button • Wooden dowel rod • PVA glue • Hot glue gun

You’ll be able to bend the petals into an arrangement of your liking. When you’ve finished, we recommend making a whole bunch more: a bouquet of custom flowers! Remember to not overdo it with the hot glue application.

Estimated time up to 40 minutes Difficulty:

Place each strip of fabric on the wax paper and paint them with the PVA glue. When firm and dry, remove them from the wax paper. Curve the pipe cleaners into petal shapes, about 2” across and twist the ends together.

Place a petal on a fabric strip with the end sticking out. Sparingly hot glue both sides of the fabric before folding it over, sandwiching the pipe cleaner. When dry, trim the excess fabric around the petal. Repeat these steps for the remaining pipe cleaners. Cut one pipe cleaner end at the twist, for the other, trim it for about 1/2 an inch. Lightly squeeze the polystyrene ball to flatten it, and insert the 1/2 inch petal end. Continue this around the ball with the other petals. Cut a circle out of some fabric, to cover the ball, and hot glue it together.

Hot glue your decorative embellishment on the top of the ball, in the midst of the lovely petals. Finally, poke the dowel rod into the bottom of the ball to add a bit of hot glue. Affix the rod into the hole, and you’re all done!
