Message from the Chairman

I hope this Easter holiday fills your home with peace, joy and plenty of colourful Easter eggs. Easter comes every year to teach us that seasons change as do our circumstances, but we must never ever give up & always be ready to welcome life with open arms. The body achieves what the mind believes. I truly believe in this quote & try to implement in my everyday life. Many people who know me also know that I work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many people have asked me how I achieve that. I say it’s easy - I just don’t give up & I make sure that I stay positive and restart & refocus constantly as I go about life. I have always made sure that I don’t build a comfort zone around me as it is something which is easily done. But I also have realised that growth is only possible when you are willing to test yourself. Go-out, meet people and connect with those in your community. Also make sure that you focus on happiness, remind yourself of a recent day well-spent or job well-done. It is with my pleasure that I announce the winner of the Wyldecrest Charity scooter giveaway . The winner is Jacqueline from Quarry Rock Park! The Wyldecrest Charitable Trust team will be getting in touch to make the delivery arrangements shortly. Thank you for all residents for taking part in the contest. We are starting a new fundraising initiative to raise money for supplies to beat the isolation and disruption caused in the community due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Please find more details on the Wyldecrest Parks Charitable trust website & Facebook page.

This SPRING: Revitalise & Renew Easter & easter eggs symbolise the renewal of life. Easter comes during spring and is a festival and holiday celebrated by millions of people around the world. Along with the Easter bunny, the most familiar symbol is the Easter egg which many Ancient cultures have viewed as a symbol of life & believed the world begun with an enormous egg. Whether it is observed as a religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, or a time for families in the northern hemisphere to enjoy the coming of Spring and celebrate with egg decorating and Easter bunnies, the celebration of Easter still retains the same spirit of rebirth and renewal, as it has for thousands of years. Easter tells us that life is all about second chances. But it means you need to open your mind up to a new way of thinking. The quicker we let go of old habits – the sooner we will discover & start enjoying new ones. The sooner we stop living our fears, the sooner we might start living our dreams.

Spring Cleaning Spirit! It’s time to breathe some fresh air into your home. After spending the last few (Winter) months cooped up indoors, spring cleaning is an apt way to signify your own personal rejuvenation, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. Let’s clear up all the dust and clutter and spread our wings ready for the peaks of the year - and of course, the coming Summer. One of the most important aspects of a good spring clean, is getting to all the places you’d normally overlook during a regular, day-to-day clean. This means we’re getting to clean behind the sofas, the tops of fridges and it includes mattresses and upholstery. If you can, turn your bedding over to really get in between the crevices with a vacuum cleaner. Be wary of dust if tackling particularly caked areas. Dust can induce a spell of sneezing, so it’s always a good idea to keep some tissues with you. It’s helpful to plan your clean before you begin. Start by making a list of each room, and then note each aspect you’d like to clean. Then when you actually begin cleaning, you can check the items off your list. Completing objectives (no matter how small) can be very beneficial when trying to achieve a larger goal, as the feeling of accomplishment is a great motivator. The best part about the clean is you may uncover useful items or possessions long-forgotten. Why not get creative as you clean and find these treasures a new purpose? Check out the tips overleaf for some homespun cleaning solutions. Remember, your experience may vary! If you’re willing to share any personal techniques or wise ideas for simple and efficient home cleaning, of course you can share them with us.

Public Health Notice With the recent appearance of the coronavirus (COVID-19), ensuring you have clean hands is a good safeguard against spreading or catching the virus. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly & often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. NHS UK recommends the following: • Wash your hands when arriving home or into work • Cover your mouth & nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing • Bin the tissue, and wash your hands afterwards • Use hand sanitizer if there’s no soap and water If you believe you may be showing signs of coronavirus, do not panic, dial 1 1 1 and talk to the services there - do not go to a GP or hospital. 8

Catch it.

Bin it.

Kill it.

10 Tips for a Tidy Home

Clean your doors and walls without damaging the paint Try diluting a cup of fabric conditioner in a bowl of warm water. Dip a soft scourer in the solution, and wipe doors or walls in circular motion. If necessary, dry with a microfibre cloth. The paint should remain intact and will have a nice fragrance too!

9

Shaving foam on stubborn water stains

Shaving cream works wonders for removing water stains from shower glass. Apply the foam on the surface and leave to set for 15 minutes. Rinse off and buff with a dry cloth and admire your glossy glass!

8

Shine your steel with olive oil

Olive oil has many nutritional benefits, but a lesser known benefit is how well it polishes! Put a little olive oil on a soft cloth and shine your utensils in a circular motion. This can be used on stainless steel cutlery, pots & pans or even appliances. Who knew?!

7

Baking soda bathtub cleaner

Mix some hot water with one cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda, then pour it into your empty bath, and leave it to set for 5 minutes. Plug the drain and begin filling the bath with hot water until it’s about 1/4 way filled. Leave it to set for another 5 minutes, then release the plug and rinse thoroughly.

6 4

Make cleaning your microwave a (lemon) breeze

Add 15 drops of lemon essential oil into 1 1/2 cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Place it in your microwave and warm it on high for 5-10 minutes, leave the steam to condense inside the machine. Once it’s up, wipe away the softened food debris with a sponge.

5

Lemon-based oven cleaner and degreaser

Fill a spray bottle with one cup water, one cup vinegar and some lemon essential oil. Spray over your oven and wipe clean. Sprinkle a bit of baking soda before you spray, if you’re dealing with stubborn stains.

Safe and affordable homemade window cleaner

You can make your own window cleaner by mixing white vinegar, a few drops of essential oil and distilled water. Give it a good shake and you’re ready to clean! It’s great for windows, mirrors and glass tops.

3

Coffee filters become house dusters

Give purpose to any spare coffee filters you may have, and simultaneously dust your home! Coffee filters make are perfect for dusting your monitors like TV screens, and computer displays. The fine weaving in the filters don’t leave behind fibres like traditional cloths do.

2

Help for a dodgy smelling drain

You may want to try this tip if you’re stuck with stinky drains. Pour one cup of white vinegar mixed with one cup of soda crystals down the clogged drain. Leave to sit for 30 minutes before pouring boiling water down the drain to clear the solution.

1

Shinier, happier wood furnishings

You can tend to your varnished wood surfaces by mixing 2 tablespoons of olive oil & 1 table spoon of white vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle. Spritz it on your varnished wood and buff down with a dry cloth. If used on flooring be very mindful of any leftover residue from the olive oil. 9

Refurbished & Re-energised Saltmarshe Castle Park

Our beautiful Saltmarshe Castle Park recently opened the doors to its new, refurbished Club House. The club house caters to many recreations with its games room, inspiring menus & lovely ambience. Park residents often meet up in the club to watch football matches, catch up on events or just to celebrate anniversaries & occasions. It is literally a hub activity on the park!

Saltmarshe Castle Park is located in the quiet settings of the Bromyard downs & the Malvern Hills. It has a growing community of residents who have chosen this beautiful park as their home. The park always has a wide choice of plots & new homes to view & is one of UK’s premium residential park developments. The benefits of staying engaged in a community (especially as we age) are quite obvious, and can positively enhance our lives in a multitude of ways. In fact, the far-reaching effects cannot be quantified or measured nor they can they be substituted. Yet it is also common knowledge that loneliness, especially among the older people, is reaching epidemic proportions. Imagine you are 80 years old and lost your partner, living on a friendly residential park and meeting peers every Monday and Thursday morning for a coffee and a chat can work wonders. Now imagine that you live in an area where there aren’t enough jobs, people have turned to crime and you’re too afraid to go out of the house. What impact might each of these circumstances have on your health and well-being? We’re proud to say our residential parks offer a peaceful, friendly way of life in nice surroundings with strong communities.

Inspiring tales from a park in Wales PARK IN FOCUS: WESTOVER PARK

Westover Park is a popular location found in the rolling hills of Carmarthenshire. We caught up with a selection of couples over the Valentines period. It’s always fascinating hearing about the move-in experience from residents across the Wyldecrest family. Steve & Carol moved into Westover Park about 2 months back! They are the proud owners of a brand new Willerby Hazlewood park home bungalow. We caught up with them on a sunny afternoon in freezing-cold weather, but guess where they were – outside, walking on the beach! We decided to downsize & found park homes a very viable option. We visited numerous parks around the South Wales/Tenby area as we wanted to be local. We came to Westover Park – fell in love with Westover Park & the Hazlewood park home bungalow – we knew we had found our forever home! One of the main factors was the proximity to a whole range of amenities like local shops, pubs, restaurants, doctor’s surgery, and hairdressers but also to be away from the hustle & bustle of a big city. The surrounding countryside is beautiful! We were living in a 2-bed detached home in the Midlands & we wanted to downsize to a bungalow-style, easy to maintain layout. So we sort of wanted to downsize to a park home bungalow, but in all honesty, our Hazlewood park home is probably the same size as our detached home. The kitchen & bedrooms are just as big and there is enough storage space. We have made many friends on the park & it is a very friendly, supportive, uplifting community on the park. There is always someone to chat to if you like, but everyone respects each other’s privacy & personal space as well! Before we decided to retire, Carol had a very rewarding job working in a care-home in the West Midlands & I used to work in the local garden centre. We have now settled into our home & the park & love to explore the surrounding areas. We just pack a Picnic & Go & head out to visit a new town or a beach. We often visit the various beaches around our park which are all less than a 30 minute drive from our home. With so much to explore & see, we are enjoying every moment of our retirement!

A frost-dusted Willerby Hazlewood

Andy & Pam moved into Westover Park just in time for Christmas on 20th December 2019! They are the proud owners of a brand new Willerby Hazlewood park home bungalow. We spoke with Andy precisely on Valentine’s Day, after he had just finished exchanging cards! Andy wouldn’t share a picture of the card he actually drew & gave to his wife, as he felt it might be too risqué! We were living in Worcestershire before we moved to Wales. We were actually researching residential parks for a long time & visited a few. We saw a few parks & homes & after our research & number crunching, we found that Westover Park would give us the most value for our money. So after selling our home, buying this brand new Hazlewood 40 x 20 square feet home, we were able to release enough equity to take early retirement. Both Pam & I used to work in catering before. Westover Park is very competitively priced – so you can get a top of the line bespoke park home bungalow on that park which will not cost you a fortune.

with Skye and Bree

Retired life is actually fantastic! We basically can do what we want to do! Westover Park is located on the edge of the village of Whitland which has everything you need from vets to doctors to pubs to grocery etc. A great advantage is that the train station is very local & is less than a 10-minute flat walk so if you don’t fancy driving, taking the train is a very convenient option. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are some great beaches & towns less than a thirty minute drive away. Our 2 Scottish terriers Skye & Bree love the area & we can go & visit places & they can literally play for hours. We didn’t know anyone when we moved to the park but we visited quite a few times & spoke with a lot of different residents. They all told us how lovely it is living on this park & we made friends on every visit! Now that we have settled into our home & the area, I can say that the park & the area is certainly good in all respects! Well, I can say one thing I don’t like - everyone is crazy about Rugby in Wales! I prefer football & am a die-hard Liverpool supporter.

Andy & Pam Read on for more resident stories from Westover Park. 17

Inspiring tales from a park in Wales PARK IN FOCUS: WESTOVER PARK

(continued)

For Thomas and his wife, the decision to move to a park home was an easy one. The benefits that park home living offers aligned well with what Thomas had in mind for a more relaxed home-life. He was kind enough to share his thoughts with us here. My wife & I lived in Birmingham, in a town-house spread over 3 floors. We had been thinking about downsizing into an easier to navigate bungalow that didn’t have any stairs. I used to lay floors for a living buy recently have had major problems with my back. Basically my doctors told me that I had to stop else there were high chances that I would end up in a wheelchair. My wife has a problem with her knee & would need a new one at some point. Going up & down two flights of stairs does take a toll! We saw some advertisements for park homes & decided to research them. We searched online, saw Wyldecrest Parks & visited one of the parks that was near to us. It was evident that park homes were offering a very viable option to downsize & offered a good bungalow-style construct as well. After my research I decided that we definitely needed a park home but in a park which offered more value for my money. The price of these homes goes up & down based on the areas & I was not actually fussed about being in a particular part of the country. Based on getting more for my budget, we visited Westover Park in Whitland & not only did we get a 2-bedroom bungalow for less than our actual budget, we actually loved the park. The area is beautiful & we could easily visualise living in the park. We feel like we are going on an adventure as we don’t know the local area, don’t know anyone on the park either. However I make friends very fast & from my visits, I think I will have a good circle of friends soon. We love travelling, whether its California, Hawaii and now, Pembrokeshire – we can’t wait to explore new places. My home is now under offer & I expect to complete it in the next few weeks. I am hoping to have money left over in the bank after finishing the payment for my new park home & that’s a great feeling! The park home bungalow we have chosen – a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom, gorgeous Omar Regency bungalow is ready & waiting on the park already. We will be taking some of our furniture with us & basically we are just waiting for moving day.

Thomas Johnson The Fishguard is a popular attraction of Pembrokeshire 18

Sheila & Dave Scottow had moved onto Westover Park and became proud owners of a brand new Willerby Hazlewood. Sheila practices yoga & meditation daily and is a very expressive character. Here’s what she had to say on their decision to begin again, on a residential park. Q. Why did you choose a park home & this location? We have friends who have park homes & we realized that they were an excellent option to downsize. We lived less than 45 minutes away by car and we were very familiar with the area. We were looking ta retiring in this area – while there are some parts which are as beautiful but are a bit remote, Whitland, on the other hand, is a lovely town & the park is located close to amenities, train-station, pubs, shops which can all be accessed by a short walk.

Q. What home did you choose? We saw a few homes which were available to view on the park. We ultimately decided on the brand new Willerby Hazlewood which has these lovely, high vaulted ceilings and such a nice layout. The kitchen, lobby & bedrooms are as big as those of other bungalows. Our park home is actually bigger than most apartments. Some of our friends who visit us honestly can’t believe how good it looks from the outside & the quality of the fittings & furnishings inside.

Q. How’s life on the park at Westover? Q. What made you choose Westover Park? The park is located right at the boundary of Pembrokeshire & Carmarthenshire, and has some beautiful towns nearby which we have always frequented.

Everyone is so friendly and willing to help each other out. I think I know almost everyone. It is a good place to retire and I have a cup of tea ready for everyone.

Sheila & Dave Scottow

My husband fell in love with the park as soon as he set foot on it while I took some time. Reason being I was a bit attached to my old home & garden. However, I ultimately understood that it made so much financial sense & also would free up so much of my time to do things I actually enjoy! I used to live in a huge house – it was a 250 year old cottage with quite a massive garden. So moving into a park home was a bit of an emotional decision for me. But even though our garden was massive- we didn’t really get to enjoy it. It actually took us a lot of time & energy to just maintain it & that’s why a park home has helped free us so much of our time! So even though it was a big property & had a massive garden – it was too much work for us.

Nestled halfway between the historic, bustling town of Carmarthen and the famous sunny beach towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot lies our lovely Westover Residential Park. The small town of Whitland, where the park is situated, takes its name from a Cistercian abbey from the medieval period and it will provide you with everything you need for your day-to-day needs. There are brand new homes available to view on this park, including an Omar Newmarket (36 x 20, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) starting from £149,995 & the affordable Wyldecrest exclusive model; the Omar Westbury (40 x 20, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom), with more availability and plots being developed. The Omar Westbury, a Wyldecrest Parks exclusive 19

If you’re nearing retirement and currently weighing up your next options, then this year could be a big one for you and your family. If the time is right for a move then it’s definitely time to consider a Park Home by Willerby. With Wyldecrest Residential Parks right across the country, many that have been thoughtfully placed in semi-rural areas with great access to local amenities, there’s somewhere out there that’s just perfect for your next chapter. Willerby’s exquisite range of park homes has been created with great care, astounding attention to detail, and has something to suit all tastes. The Hazlewood is perfect for those seeking a stylish, low maintenance home, while the Charnwood has a striking and modern appeal. Last but by no means least, the Delamere marries a contemporary home aesthetic with those all-important traditional touches.

Hazlewood

The words ‘practical’ and ‘luxurious’ spring to mind with the Hazlewood. With its generously proportioned rooms and thoughtful storage solutions, it’s not just about downsizing, but rightsizing too. The interior design of the Hazlewood is very much on-trend, with warm woods and fabrics in tones of cappuccino and blush. Boasting a large lounge, dining and kitchen area, and of course its two bedrooms, you’ll feel like you’re living in a boutique hotel with the textured wallpaper and warm, berry-toned curtains. 20

Charnwood

Cool and modern vibes breeze through the Charnwood, with its kitchen and utility areas in particular striking the fusion of glamour and functional living. A stylish fireplace situated on its own feature wall makes the lounge feel opulent, while designer touches flowing into the dining room create the perfect space for entertaining family and friends.

Delamere

The Delamare allows you to start living from the moment you move in - downsizers and shoe collectors, in particular, will gleam when they see the generous space available to store away items. The kitchen has plenty of worktop areas, storage cupboards and a practical utility room. Willerby’s design team can help realise your ideal space, including specific colour choices.

We understand that these are currently uncertain & confusing times. We would love to have you visit & experience our parks and homes in person, but we do understand that you may have some reservations about making the trip. So in these special circumstances we are offering some options for you to be able to explore our parks from the safety of your own home:

Our local park/sales manager will come & meet you at your home. They can show you the various homes available & explain all details about parks, costs, availability & timelines.

You can drive through the park(s) of interest at a convenient time. We can then arrange for the available show home(s) to be opened & ready before you visit. You can look around & leave without meeting anyone & then discuss details with our manager over the phone.

Our park/sales manager can do a video chat with you from the park or the home & then give you a guided virtual tour. You can access it via your iPhone or iPad or computer.

We have 360 video tours of many homes and pictures of the actual parks/homes available as well on our website & on request. Please let us know if you are interested in any particular park/home If you are interested & would like to secure a particular plot or home, you can reserve it with a token deposit.

Any deposits taken for appointments held over the phone/without visiting will be fully refundable until you can physically visit the park/home*. That will depend on the current situation & no pressure will be made to visit if it is not safe to do so.

Easter Recipes Bunny Soup Bowl Method • With the regular roll, cut 1/2 way across the bottom, making a flap to hang it on the larger roll. • Cut the top section off the bread bowl in a U shape, with a ledge to sit the smaller roll on. This will be our soup bowl. • Remove the inside of the bowl, and set it aside for dipping in the soup later. You can also keep a small piece for the tail of the Bunny.

Ingredients

1 Regular sized roll (can be homemade) 1 Bread bowl (can be homemade) 2 Chocolate chips 1 Pink button candy 5 Toothpicks Soup of your choice (can be homemade) Optional: Fresh parsley

• Slice the top of the larger roll you removed earlier into two earshaped pieces. • With a knife, carve a hole in the smaller roll where you’d like the Bunny’s nose, and push the button candy in place. Repeat the step with the chocolate chips for the eyes. This will be the Bunny’s head. • Secure the head on the bowl using three toothpicks. Poke the other toothpicks in the bottom of each ear and attach them to the head. • Place the parsley around the base of the bowl as a grass garnish. The bread from the inside of the bowl can now be used as the tail. • Add your choice of soup to the bowl and enjoy!

Hot Cross Lemon & Bread Pudding Preparation Preheat the oven to 60°c (140°c fan ovens/ gas mark 3), then grease the baking dish with some butter. Method • Cut each bun into 3 slices. Spread the curd across the buns before sandwiching them together. Place each bun in the dish. • Whisk eggs, cream, milk and leftover curd together, then sieve it into a jug. Add a hint of vanilla, 3 tbsp of sugar before pouring our custard over the buns. Leave it to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. • Sprinkle sugar and lemon zest over the dish before placing in the pre-heated oven. Allow to bake for 30-40 minutes, or when the top is golden and the custard has set. • Leave to stand for 5 minutes before serving with a helping of cream!

Ingredients

Butter to grease 4 Hot cross buns (left out overnight) 200g Lemon curd 2 Eggs 200ml Double cream 200ml Milk ½ Teaspoon vanilla extract 4 tbsp sugar Some lemon zest Optional: Cream to serve

Share your throw creation with us on facebook @wyldecrestparks

Something to try No Sew-Throw

What you’ll need: • Two sheets of fabric of a similar size and material - we find fleece fabric works great, as most stretch fabrics don’t fray

Got plenty of old clothes left over from winter? Now you can re-purpose those rags by turning them into throw cushions and blankets.

• Scissors or a rotary cutter • Tape measure/ruler Estimated time up to 2 hours. (Depending on the size of throw)

A tip before we begin: put both rectangle/square layers of the fleece together to cut them at the simultaneously to save time!

Difficulty:

From the two pieces of fabric - in this case we’ll be using fleece fabric - cut 56” x 70” rectangles. If you’d like a square cushion, make the cuts 20” x 20”. It’s up to you!

Place the fabric rectangles’ insides together. Ensure the sides of the fabric you want to display are on the outside, facing you. Cut a 7” square from each corner of both pieces.

For the fringe, cut 7” into the both fleeces, with 1” between each cut. Continue this across all sides around your cushion.

Finally, tie the loose ends together: one loose end of the top layer to the respective end on the bottom. Complete this around the cushion and you’re done! You can use this technique to create blankets too, by tying the ends of each fringe to another fringed throw.

Welcome to the Wyldecrest Swap Shop. Get something good, for nothing! A special gift to our residents - a website exclusively for the Wyldecrest Parks Family! The Wyldecrest Swap Shop is a chance to swap anything you’ve got lying around at home (that you’ve been meaning to clear out, but haven’t gotten around to it) for something else. It’s a simple idea, but an effective one!

Instead of just throwing your old stuff away, why not swap it? You might make some money, or maybe you’ll get something equally as interesting in return!

You know - one person’s trash is another person’s treasure! Find out more at www.wyldecrestswapshop.co.uk
