Message from the Chairman

“I have started a new property growth training academy for first time buyers, existing home owners, experienced property developers and property investors. I am pleased to offer all Wyldecrest Parks Residents (Residential park home owners & holiday home owners) 10% off any course listed on www.alfiebestpropertygrowth.com Housing is a basic human right. It directly impacts health, education and social well-being. There should never ever be choice for an individual between food, bills and having a roof over their head. Housing charity Shelter’s report claims 1.3 million homes are needed to house those in greatest need - including homeless people and those living with a disability. But it’s not for a lack of ideas that this has happened. What we are lacking is the political will. Why are councils not looking at park homes as effective, affordable options for a growing number of people who would like to live in modern but manageable homes and enjoy the perks of being part of a healthy community too! Park Homes enable you to achieve quality with economy and deliver more value for your money. I don’t think there’s any reason why people shouldn’t be able to do that and because manufactured housing is so cost-effective, it frees up peoples’ capital more to enjoy a better quality of life. 74% of Would-Be First Time Buyers Believe That The Dream of Home Ownership Is Already Over. I Want To Help Change That.”

New Year Motivation Life-changing events come in many forms, and act as milestones dotting the journey over our lives. These bumps are often considered life-changing, or transforming. It may be a new baby, a new career/retirement, graduation, marriage or even a birthday. With each and every one of these changes comes the opportunity for a new beginning. It’s up to us to take the moment and use it as a chance to learn and grow; reflect on a new chapter in our life. These achievements can be used to inspire and uplift yourself and those around you. Retirement as a new beginning gives you a chance to reset life, expand on your interests and find new ways to spend your time. Think of aging as a positive! Too often we see people use age as a convenient excuse. How many times have you heard it said “I’m too old

to start something new”, or, “I couldn’t learn that at my age.” Common beliefs held by many. However, many go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in their later years. This new year, don’t let something like age get in your way of starting a new venture!

Our Piece

of Peace

ORCHARD PARK

We recently caught up with the lovely Mrs. Elaine Healey who has bought a lovely, new Willerby Hazlewood home in Orchard Park, Cheshire. She works as a Travel Advisor for a very well-known travel company. During a quick chat, we were able to find out more about her experience buying a park home to begin anew. What prompted you to choose a park home? Having lived on a main road for 15 years, and with recent bouts of serious ill health, Robert and I decided we had reached a point in our lives where we were looking for some peace and quiet and our “forever” home.

What did you feel was important to ‘get right’? What was important to us was a peaceful setting, within a safe village-type community and with the necessary facilities around us. We also wanted a little outside space to spend time outdoors when the weather permitted, although we didn’t want a garden requiring a lot of maintenance. With a budget in mind, we set out looking for our new home and as a friend of ours knew someone living in a park home, we began to look into the various companies.

How was the journey to find a perfect park home? The Wyldecrest website was one of the first we visited and I was impressed by the speed of the live chat response and reaction to queries and appointments. We didn’t feel pressurised at any time, just supported by the team and the houses were the most reasonably priced and with different house sizes on offer. The park in Elton was one of the first sites we visited and whilst the home we viewed was beautiful and exceeded our expectations, we didn’t like the position on the site. What we immediately warmed to though, was the site manager Anne, who was so helpful and honest in her feedback. We visited other park homes with other companies and in other areas of the North West, but something pulled us back to Elton.

14

How did you choose the exact home? While looking at another property on a different Wyldecrest site, Anne made us aware of a “beautiful Willerby home which had literally just been delivered to Elton, but as there were no steps as yet, we were unable to see inside. We went back to Elton to have a look around the property and were immediately impressed by the diagonal position of the house, at the head of the park and also with an outside area that was bigger than others we had viewed. We promptly got a call from the Wyldecrest head office to say temporary steps were in place, so we could view inside the home the very next day. I went to view the inside as Rob was working and was so impressed by the quality and space. The home offers two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a fully equipped large kitchen inside, I had a quick chat with Rob and then immediately put down a deposit to secure it. What was perfect was the way Anne and the maintenance guy walked us around the house to get our input into personalising the fencing, existing shrubbery and the creation of a driveway etc. We are so excited about moving into our new park home and we would have no hesitation in recommending Wyldecrest.

Thank you so much Elaine for sharing your experience with us. We very much look forward to welcoming you to your new forever-home very soon!

Orchard Residential Park is located on the fringes of the picturesque village of Elton. The park overlooks the open countryside, with delightful views of the westerly range of the Cheshire Hills that surround Frodsham and Alverney. Idyllically situated within the original fruit orchards of Elton Manor, Orchard Park really is the perfect place for rest and relaxation and the perfect retirement. Most of the 106 plots have parking areas and the park is well laid out. There is a strong community spirit here and an on-site manager with an office that is open daily. We have homes available to view on park, please get in touch to arrange a viewing today. Why not contact our friendly team to arrange a viewing:

Moving homes is always a big deal, but moving from a traditional house to a park home can be a significant change. We’d like to share the stories from residents that made the decision to begin a new way of living. Please meet the charming Debbie Thirsk, resident of our Park Village Residential Park in Crieff, Scotland. She moved into her new home at the end of July 2017 and is really looking forward to enjoying a fantastic relaxing summer this year! We caught up with her over the phone and she had a very interesting story to tell us, read on.

Before the move, I used to live in Hull in East Yorkshire in a city-centre apartment as I was working as a commercial accountant. When I made up my mind to retire to a quieter way of life, I always knew that it had to be in Scotland. Even though I have family spread across the world, I have a lot of friends in Scotland. So I started with attending shows and searching on the web. I actually looked online for a couple of years as I wanted the perfect location to spend my best years of life. Also, I wanted a bespoke home! When I went to visit Park Village Residential Park – I loved it instantly. The plot backs onto the local park (Mcrosty Park). And the Barvick burn runs through there as well.

My home Designing my forever home was very important for me. I actually went in for one of the biggest sized homes – a 50 x 20! I also merged 2 home styles – I chose the outside of an Omar Colorado & the inside of an Omar Heritage! That helped me get an amazing open-plan kitchen with an island. I also have a fabulous summer home in my garden where I indulge in my craft & knitting work. I am so looking forward to sorting everything out soon just in time for the summer.

My lovely garden I just love just sitting in the garden, which is getting more established this year. It is just so beautiful in here and even when I am not in the garden, I enjoy watching all the birds and animals out of my windows. I have been told that the salmon and trout can be seen leaping in the burn at the back of the garden in Sept/October, so I am going to try and experience that this autumn.

The wildlife Currently I have 2 grey and 2 red squirrels that visit me daily to be fed, along with the usual robins, blue tits, bullfinch and an occasional woodpecker. There is a heron that can be seen perched in the trees around the park, although he hasn’t visited my garden yet. But last June, and again this year, we had a visit from an escapee peacock – he came from a wildlife park 10 miles away, and we actually featured in

the local Perthshire press as well. I managed to trap him for the wildlife park last year by helping them set up a trap in my garden and they have set it up again now. But this time after spending 2 or 3 weeks with us, he appears to have gone walkabout again! He became a firm favourite with the residents here and all of us gave him a name- “Dave”.

The park It is a really friendly park and we have a whole mix of people from various backgrounds. We have a ladies social group on our park. We regularly organize events such as regular bingo nights and we recently had a quiz night as well! Our Residents Association is very good and helpful and supports with any issues. Our resident park manager couple Eric & Dorothy are very kind & lovely people. They won the park manager of the year award from Wyldecrest Parks.

Park Village is a homely park - only 39 homes and all plots are occupied. There is currently only one brand new show home for sale, plus one pre-owned home. This park is situated on the northern fringe of the town of Crieff on the edge of the Scottish Highlands, the ideal setting for anyone interested in nature. Crieff itself is the principal town in the beautiful valley of Strathearn in the heart of Perthshire, It has a lot of amenities to offer, and as a centre for the arts, antiques and crafts are very popular with tourists. The nearby Drummond Castle Gardens are also not to be missed, as is the Famous Grouse experience at Glenturret – Scotland’s oldest distillery.

An Omar Regency is available on Park Village

Luxury Interior Redesign Competition Presented by Wyldecrest Parks and Celia Sawyer

Back in our September edition of Wyldeliving Magazine, we launched a competition to win a luxury interior makeover worth over £7500 courtesy of famous interior designer Celia Sawyer. As it was intended to be a way to give something back to our residents, every resident was eligible! They just had to tell us which room they wanted to redesign and why they wanted it! The response was overwhelming, with numerous entries across phone, mail-in forms and emails. As always, it’s great to hear from our residents, and we enjoyed going through every single entry to draw 10 finalists for our panel of three judges. The conclusion ceremony was telecast live over the internet, and the 10 successful short-listed contestants were announced by our judges and seen by thousands viewers! The judges then had to decide the winner.

The panel of judges: (from left) Conchi from Willerby Park Homes, Chairman Alfie Best, Celia Sawyer

18

Willerby Park Homes also used this opportunity to better understand what people are looking for in terms of décor & interiors, in order to design & furnish their homes better. It got our creative juices flowing too, it got us thinking of having an exclusive range of interiors designed by Celia Sawyer exclusively for Wyldecrest Parks & Willerby Homes! We asked Celia about her signature look, and what she envisaged when giving the winner’s park home a makeover. Celia described her signature look as “Glamorous, cool, sophisticated and stylish. I love having a great mix of velvets, satins, crystal, onyx, chrome, whatever it may be, but the mix is incredibly important. If I was to choose to use similar textures throughout, it is creating a boring interior, however by mixing them up, perhaps a glass table-top with an onyx box sitting on top, or mother of pearl dishes, suddenly it creates a palate of interest.”

Mr. Bernard Highgate was one of the finalists. Celia & Alfie discussed his entry, he is a very popular resident of his park & an avid gardener; he wanted a makeover of his lounge as he claimed it was very old’. The judges then talked about Mr & Mrs Bates. Our park manager visited them earlier in the month to inform them that they had been selected as finalists. They are a beautiful couple and were actually quite surprised to have made it to the finals. More finalists included Mrs. Theresa Abott – a lovely resident who wanted her second bedroom redone as her grandchildren come to visit her & stay for a few days, and she wanted to have a bright, lovely bedroom for them. The judges then went over Mr & Mrs Britten’s entry in which they had quite a simple wish list – they wanted more space & some well-designed storage options customised for their homes.

New Years

Did you know? New Years celebrations are observed across the world. Many cultures have very different ways of expressing their welcomes to the new year, bringing good fortunes and new beginnings! In Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba, families may stuff a large doll - called Mr. Old Year with papers covered with bad memories or events from the past year. At midnight he is set ablaze to symbolise burning away the bad memories! The bells in many Buddhist Temples in Japan are rung 108 times. They do this to welcome the God of New Year known as Toshigami. The Japanese also eat long noodles on New Year as long noodles signify long life. In Denmark, it’s considered tradition to smash plates against your friend’s front door at midnight. That meant finding a large pile of broken china at your door in the morning is considered lucky! It may mean you have lots of loyal friends.

In the Spain, a family ritual on New Year’s Eve is to eat 12 grapes at midnight. It’s believed this will result in 12 fully and happy months in the coming year! January is named after Janus, the Roman god with two faces. One face looks forward and one looks backward. He is the god of beginnings, transitions, gates, doors, passages, and endings. Very fitting for new starts each year! The New Year’s Eve confetti in NYC is literary made of peoples’ hopes and dreams! The Times Square visitor centre is open across the year, allowing guests to put up post-it notes with their wishes for the next year. Those wishes are made into confetti showered across Times Square as the ball drops.

Luxury Interior Redesign Competition Presented by Wyldecrest Parks and Celia Sawyer

Mr. Peter Mayall St. Dominic Residential Park

“I’m very surprised to win this prize, and I look forward to having it. When it’s done, I’ll think of it in memory of my wife. Thank you very much.”

Mr Mayall

Mr. Peter Mayall was announced the winner of the 2019 luxury room makeover by a majority vote. We also received a heartfelt video from Mr Mayall after our park manager had visited him to see how he felt about being in the top 10. Mr Mayall mentioned how his late wife used to use the lounge a lot and despite his fondness for it, he would be so happy if it was redecorated. He has been living happily in his park home since 1993, but a little redecoration would be very welcome, as he is 90 years old it would be hard for him to do it alone. The Wyldecrest team along with Celia Sawyer will be visiting Mr. Mayall very soon to evaluate his home & understand what he is looking for & what sort of a style he likes. We will keep you updated with every part of the journey as we look at revamping Mr. Mayall’s lounge and giving it a beautiful new life.

We hold contests & competitions, giveaways and celebrations throughout the year. If you’re interested in taking part in any, be sure to keep reading each edition of Wyldeliving Magazine!

Season’sTreatings Easy-peasy Fruitcake Cake Ingredients 4 tsp of Rum/brandy 1 Orange - zested & juiced 600g Mixed fruit (of your choice) 200g Soft butter 200g Golden caster sugar 4 Eggs 200g Plain flour 100g Pecan nuts/chopped almonds 75g Crystallised or candied ginger Garnish Ingredients Apricot jam or glaze Candied pineapple, candied angelica, glacé cherries (mixed)

• Add rum (or brandy), orange zest & juice, and mixed dried fruit to a bowl and stir. Leave it to soak overnight. • Pre-heat the oven to 170°C (150°C for fan ovens or gas mark 4), then double line a 20cm tin with baking parchment. • Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Whisk in the eggs slowly before folding in the almonds and some flour. Add a touch of salt and fold-in the soaked fruit mixture, along with the nuts, candied peel and ginger. Spoon the mixture into the tin and level the surface. • Bake in the oven for 1 hour, then lower the temperature to 150°C (130°C fan ovens, gas mark 2), and allow to bake for a further 2 hours. • Keep an eye on the cake to see if it’s pulling away from the tin and feels firm on top. If you need to, keep baking for a further 15 minutes. • Leave the cake to cool in the tin before we move onto garnish! Brush with the apricot glaze and arrange your favourite candied fruit on top. The cake can keep in a sealed container for up to three weeks!

Don’t brush your dreams under the carpet because you may think they may not work, it is the initial steps that make the dream. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Keep an open mind when starting a new project, middle ground is important and don’t take it for granted.

It’s time to cut some restraints; you cannot keep others happy by tying yourself back. You need to be self-seeking in some cases, do what’s right for you and your loved ones. Morals will not change just because you have focussed on yourself. 2020 will be full of now beginnings. Cherish those that love you unconditionally and do not be fooled by false intentions. Strive for happiness this coming year. Of course there will be obstacles along the way, but take a lesson from each one and use it to better your future. This spring is going to big, love is in the air and commitments are in-bound. Don’t let your history prevent you from new beginnings. This applies to your talents too; ensure regret doesn’t keep you from your calling.

You are overdue celebrations in 2020. Use this as an excuse to be close to your loved ones. We always push away the ones that are closest but this year turn over a new leaf and let go of the past. Life can be unpredictable, take in all the signs and make this your year. Be happy and create some wonderful memories. Spring will be full of connections of various kinds.

2020 will be a calm year for you. You might be content in certain aspects of life, and that is a good thing - it works for you. It is important to continue to do what makes you happy. There could be clashes, but do not let things get bitter just accept the differences and move on. Remain true to yourself and you will always walk happier knowing you are doing your best. Summer will bring something restful, enjoy it!

It is important to stay grounded this year. Taking time to heal is okay but do not ignore your surroundings. 2020 will be about finding yourself. Who you are, what you want and who you want to do it with. Going with the flow is easy but you need to take point. This is your chance to figure out where things are going in the long run. Focus and you will achieve.

You are set to be in a good position this year. Your goals are clear and you are determined. Your love for exploration will never die but you should be passionate about where and what you call home. If booking something far-off unsettles you, look closer to home. Even when trying something new you can feel like you have been there a life time.
