Ideas Behind The Project To mark the entrance into the world of music through a natural filter
To encourage visitors to forget their surrounding
To plant a ring of tree which would be necessary to cross in order to enter the complex devoted music
4
Issue Tackled For The Project
Not enough room to plant trees
High cost metal
5
Material Used For The Project Concrete
Black granite
White steel 6
What I Found Interesting About The Project
Shape of the building
The Grand Auditorium
Salle de Musique
Christian de Portzamparc 7
What do I understand about architecture? • To create an environment where people can enjoy to the fullest • Architecture plays an important role in our society • Architecture is everywhere
8
Point & Line The idea behind this abstract drawing is based on the architect's idea on the building using point and line. The two thick curve represent the shape of the building. The circles are to represent the 823 facades of the building and also to support the idea of planting a ring of tree. The colored circle represents the auditorium to mark the entrance into the world of music. The wavy lines in the circle showed that the music is spreading to every corner of the form so that the visitors can forget about their surrounding.
9
BASE PLANE
Base plane is used to define a simple field of space. It also articulates a functional zone within a one - room living environment.
10 10
DEPRESSED BASE PLANE
The increase in depth of the depressed field weaken the visual and define a distinct volume. Increase above the eye level, the depressed space become a separate and distinct room. 11
ELEVATED BASE PLANE
Elevated base plane is artificially constructed to deliberately raise a building above the surrounding context or enhance its image in the landscape.
12
OVERHEAD PLANE
A series of facades elements are used to support the overhead plane and these aid in visually establishing the limits of a defined space. A narrow skylight is designed to let the sun in on the rifts and on the foyer. It underlines the very pure design of the whole of the roofing and shows refusal of symmetry of the project
13
VERTICAL LINEAR ELEMENT Vertical linear element such as facades can mark the center of an urban space. A repetitive series of facades elements along its perimeter would further strengthen the definition of voume.
14
FOUR PLANES : CLOSURE A closure defines a significant space of a building which is the grand auditorium. In order to achieve the finest acoustics, the concept of shoebox is used. 15
FORM & FORMAL COLLISION OF GEOMETRY It has a shaped of three circles combining together and also a square in the middle. Two forms, circle and square are collided and form an irregular shape, square in a circle.
16
Dimensional Transformation
LOBBY
AUDITORIUM
The circle and the square are elongated in length to form an oval and rectangle
17
SUBTRACTIVE TRANSFORMATION
Part of the volume of the circle is removed to form an irregular shape
18
FACE TO FACE CONTACT Music Hall Chamber

SPACE WITHIN A SPACE

AUDITORIUM
To give an internal and external communication for the visitors To attract attention from the public To mark an entrance into the world of music 21

22
REPETITION Act as a vertical support for roof To allow light, view and people to enter
23
Ordering Principles The abstract drawing is based on the ordering principles. The two thick curves is to represent the unique shape of the building from the statement of a house photographer, Alfonso Salgueiro Lora, he said that the buildings resembles a whale opening its mouth and the columns. The multiple circles in the two curves represent the 823 facades which also act as a vertical support for the building. These circles are also to support the architect's idea on the building which is to plant a ring of tree which is neccesary to cross in order to enter the world of music.
24
OPENINGS BETWEEN PLANES
OPENINGS IN SPACE
Weakens the vertical boundaries of a space Offers more expansive views Permit a greater amount of daylight to penetrate
OPENINGS WITHIN PLANES Located at the ceiling plane Create a degree of visual tension Appear brighter
OPENINGS AT CORNER Brighten a dark corner Larger opening weakens the definition of corner To capture desirable view
25
VIEW
Facade - Allow some view to enter
Corner window allow a sepecific view to be seen
26
LIGHT
Light from the facade
Light from skylight
Light form the corner 27
FRONTAL APPROACH A frontal approach leads directly to the entrance of the building
RECCESSED ENTRANCE Provides shelter and receives a portion of exterior space into the realm of the building To receive those entering a building
28
CONFIGURATION OF PATH LINEAR PATH
IN
OUT One entrance and the path is encircling around the auditorium One branch to lead to the music chamber hall and is the only entrance and the only exit 29
PATH - SPACE RELATIONSHIP TERMINATE IN A SPACE Location of a space established a path This path - space relationship is used to approach and enter functionally or symbolically important access
Entrance to the auditorium
Entrance to the music hall chamber 30
FORM OF CIRCULATION SPACE STAIRWAYS Wide and shallow steps allow invitation The path of the stair can rise between walls through a narrow shaft of space to offer access to a private space
