“More and more volunteers from the migrant community and the society joined a variety of activities at NCLC. More and more kids and parents love the Center. I do hope we’ll work together to promote the migrant’ s health and social inclusion.” -----Yi Liying, NCLC Director, a migrant woman from Inner Mongolia

I. Executive Summary

This annual report describes the progress and outcomes of Promoting Reproductive Health of Migrant Population Project (referred to as the Project hereafter) during January-December 2010. With the Project’ s aim of promoting migrants’ reproductive health in the target community through developing community mutual support and community services which facilitate positive behavior change, the Project focused on 2010’ s theme of Knowing, Caring & Understanding by strengthening the social support network for migrants in Sanlin Town, exploring partnership with two other communities in Shanghai in order to set up resource centers/outreach stations and expand project activities, building capacity of workforce, as well as promoting the project to district, munic ipal, national, and global level. As an integrated health promotion program, the Project had wider impact during the year of 2010. Multiple government departments, media as well as volunteers within and outside the local community paid more attention to health rights and needs of migrants. It should be noted that due to 2010 World Expo held in Shanghai and the local government policy which prioritized old people’s health promotion in 2010, the set-up of resource centers/outreach stations including the one in Huangpu District were delayed into the year of 2011. However, the workshops and community days were successfully held in three communities as scheduled. All the materials developed during January-December 2010 are available in separate attachments.

4

“I remembered that when I first came to NCLC, many migrant women were learning how to prevent HIV/AIDS. It was very interesting and brought a lot of help to our daily life. ” -----Gui Qingqing, NCLC community health field worker, a migrant woman from Jiangsu

The Second NCLC Community Committee Meeting

NCLC extended its core coverage area in Pudong from 1 village to 5 villages in 2010 thus served a population of 80,000 migrants. All agreed that this meeting would be held quarterly. l
