Aztec Solar Your Local Solar Experts

Q&A With Aztec Solar Q: Can you tell us about the hot new solar lease energy program that’s being offered only by Aztec Solar? A: Aztec Solar is an exclusive dealer of a new product called Echo Solar Systems. It’s a sweet new design, patented in Fremont, CA. that will bring you solar electric and solar water heating all in one system. They also include a whole house system monitoring where you can control your thermostat through your iphone or computer. You can turn on that thermostat at 3 in the afternoon so your house is nice and cool when you come home. There’s also a monitoring system that will calculate how much your system is generating and report that. This can all be tied into a simple monthly lease program that will be cheaper than what you’re currently paying for your utilities right now. Q: Are there any other dealers in the Sacramento market that offer this new program? A: No. We are an exclusive dealer of this product in the Sacramento area. The reason we were chosen is because we are experienced and knowledgeable about solar technology. We’ve been installing solar products for over 30 years, and not all installers around here can say that. It’s a complex installation, but we will keep it simple and make sure that the installation happens quickly and continuously for the customer. Q: What’s the best way for consumers to learn more about the Echo Solar System? A: We’re setting appointments right now and our books are filling up, so contact us right away so that you can be assured of an appointment for a free energy assessment. Now is a good time to get in on this deal. If you set your appointment in July, we will throw in a digital thermostat with energy star settings as an upgrade for free. Get in on this brand new product before the summer gets even hotter and your utility bills spike up even more.

The Prison of Approval By Bob Cox While growing up in the small community of Lansing Michigan during the Great Depression, a young lady named Beverly Jean Rothermel desperately strived to earn her mother’s love and approval. Her mom, who was raised at the turn of the 20th Century by very strict and rigid parents during the Victorian era, loved her daughter but refused to praise her under the belief that it would lead to conceit, arrogance and a swelled head. The years slid by like sand through the fingers, but no matter how hard she tried, Beverly Jean was unable to earn the approval of her mother, the person she admired and respected the most. This destructive pattern repeated itself over and over, and it had a devastating impact on her confidence and self esteem. Shortly after the Great Depression and World War II, Beverly Jean moved to California with her parents and younger brother Bud. A few months after the move, she met, fell in love and married a man named Robert Emory Cox, who would later nickname her the hopeless optimist for her genuinely positive outlook on life, a character trait she inherited from her father, who was born without a serious bone in his body. Despite the love they felt for one another and their four healthy children, a vital piece was missing from Beverly Jean’s soul, and no amount of psychotherapy, prescription drugs or booze would fill the cavernous hole. Her children, especially her youngest son, Robert Austin (yours truly) was disappointed with her because she was not a devoted stay-at-home mom like most of his other friends had. He grew to resent her even more for being away at work each day and never being around except late at night, when she would down a pint of Kessler’s Whiskey and then rave hysterically in a dark and empty room at everyone who had ever said she wasn’t good enough. The list was long and the years of sleepless nights were even longer.

By the time I was in my last years of college, everyone in the family had bailed out, including dad who had a very uncharacteristic fling during a mid-life crisis and escaped for greener pastures half way around the world. When I came home late one night after another long and grueling day of classes, studying and working, I encountered yet another drinking binge and became instantly enraged. I confronted mom for the first time and yelled out that everyone she loved most had left because of her drinking and that I refused to spend one more night with a drunken lunatic. Shortly after our confrontation, a miracle happened. Mom completely turned her life around and found the inner courage, strength and determination to beat her addiction. From that day forward, she never took another drink again. Even more impressive, she was able to conquer her inner demons without the help of any external organization as she climbed her way out of the darkness and into the light of healthy living. Over the next three decades, mom discovered a great peace as she let go of the past, especially her need for external approval from others. She successfully escaped the prison of approval by forgiving her mother and everyone else that failed to accept the beautiful person she really was. She embraced a simple life and thoroughly enjoyed her charming little mobile home, nestled beneath the forest of oak trees in an enchanted land just off Auburn-Folsom Road. She evolved into becoming the best possible version of herself and over time, our relationship healed and grew stronger than ever. We became closer with each passing year and I felt immense gratitude to see the awesome person that had been locked away for so many years. Our love, appreciation and mutual respect for one another grew once I was able to let go of the past, set aside my own unrealistic expectations and moved forward. One of the things mom would often say whenever I would go visit her would be how weird it was to look in the mirror and see the old person staring back at her. Why? Because mom’s mind, heart and spirit were still youthful, energetic and full of life. When she took her last breath here on earth, my sadness was eased when I had a strong vision of her and dad, reunited in the youthful bodies when they first met. That feeling was confirmed a few hours later when I read her horoscope on May 30, which read: “Step outside your shell and explore the unknown. Travel and fun are favored. Pleasant surprises are waiting. Now go get your hat.” Thank you mom, for allowing me to see the loving, positive and joyous person you really were. You will live forever in my heart and in my memories. Bob Cox is the founder and publisher of Go For It Magazine. He can be reached by phone at (916) 266-3115. One of the things she recommended was changing the entry way There’s an accurate old saying “You get what you pay for” to tile. I said no at first because I didn’t want to change my entry which would lead one to believe that Mary Jo must have had to pay a hefty price for such outstanding service, but Mary Jo let us in on a little secret that not even Lynn knows about. Well, at least not until she reads this article! When I asked Mary Jo if she was happy with the price, her response was a resounding YES! “Lynn doesn’t know this, because she’s my friend but we had another flooring company come out, and they gave us an estimate on tile and hardwood, but mostly the hardwood. Lynn’s price was by far the best! We pretended like we knew what we were talking about because Lynn had taught us so much, so we would ask very specific questions. It seemed to me, and I could be wrong because it was a reputable floor company, but when people drive up to our house, because it’s a big house, maybe they think we’re rich. God that’s funny (laughing)! So, I kind of felt like the prices were a little inflated and they were willing to drop down to something they thought that we would be satisfied with. But they didn’t even touch what Lynn was giving us for price. She was so fair with us,” remarked Mary Jo. I asked Mary Jo one final question that I’m sure all our

Three years of trudging through the sludge and still working it (laughing)! It’s a lot of work, but it’s hard to believe that three years have gone by. readers are dying to know: Would you recommend Lynn not only as a flooring expert but also as a bunko partner? “Yes, highly (laughing)! She was very good. She actually has done the floors for a couple of other bunko players and also the daughter of one of the bunko people. It’s really an awesome company and she will work very hard to give you exactly what you want at a very fair price. And I don’t think it’s because we’re friends and bunko partners. She’s really living up to her father’s name and her father’s company, so she’s not going to do anything that’s going to bring any disrespect to her father. She said if you get this flooring in and it’s not right, we’ll change it. She wants satisfied customers,” Mary Jo explained. I spoke to Lynn the other day to find out what’s new at Ralph Opfer Floors. Here’s how our conversation went:

Q: Are there any other hot products that people should know about? A: Yes, the engineered floors are up and coming again. There are just so many choices now. The plus side is there are so many choices, but that also makes it more frustrating for the consumer. Becoming educated before you shop will help.

More Than a Pretty Face By Dr. Andrade & Dr. Montalvo Can dentists inject Botox? Close to half the states in the US allow dentists to perform Botox procedures in all of the oral and maxillofacial areas of the face. Dental healthcare professionals are experts in not only the teeth but the facial nerves, muscles of mastication and muscles of facial expression. Dentists are also very proficient in placing injections in the oral and maxillofacial muscles and are one of the only healthcare specialists that can anesthetize the area before being treated with Botox for a comfortable experience.

What is Botox? Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified protein. Botulinum toxin A is the most commonly used form and has thousands of literature and scientific research supporting its use. How does Botox work? Botox is injected into the facial muscles and within a few hours it works to attach itself to the nerve endings of the motor muscles. This affects the nerve transmission into these muscles which allows these muscles to relax and not contract so the skin above these muscles will become nice and smooth. In the case of its therapeutic uses it acts in the same way to relax the muscle and decrease the muscles intensity.

What are the therapeutic dental uses for Botox? Botox can be used for not only smoothing foreheads, getting rid of crows feet, and enhancing lips but also for the managing of TMJ, bruxism, clenching and muscle pain. It is also commonly used to treat a gummy smile (a high lip line that shows too much gums), filling in a space (black triangle) between your teeth and gums and tension headaches.

How long does it last? Botox is a temporary treatment and lasts from 3-4 months. It is similar to teeth whitening in that it is temporary and needs to be refreshed from time to time.

How does Botox work for TMJ? Botox is a muscle relaxer and can greatly reduce the intensity on the muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ and facial pain. It can give the patient significant relief. We have TMJ patients that have gotten the bruxism applicances, have done full mouth reconstructions, and are still at wits end at trying to find the right answer that will help them with their TMJ and facial pain. Botox can play a very important role in reducing or eliminating their facial pain and muscle tension disorder.

Is it commonly used? Yes, Botox has been around for over 21 years and is the most commonly performed minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in North America. Nearly 2.5 million cosmetic procedures were done with Botox in 2008 according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and it continues to be on the rise. Women accounted for 92% of the total cosmetic procedure done.

Car Tech Talk Branching Out By Walter Ford For the past 6 years or so, we’ve dedicated ourselves to being a BMW/Mini only shop. Over the course of business, we’ve been asked to work on other makes, most of which we’ve turned down. However, for our really good customers, we’ve been known to make exceptions. One of our goals was to be the best BMW/Mini repair facility in the Sacramento area. I think we’ve been able to do this by sticking to basic principles of business and customer service. One recurring theme over time has been the request to work on Volkswagens. In my past, I’ve worked for a premier VW tuner/ repair shop in Santa Clara. It’s where I learned the business from the ground up. It is also our future… Valley Motorwerks is adding Volkswagen to the lineup of vehicles we service. Volkswagens use similar control units, Bosch, Siemens, etc. Consequently, the most complicated issues we will run into are already within our skill set. Additionally, Valley Motorwerks is already a Bosch Certified Service Center. We do not take this responsibility lightly. We will make the transition slowly over the next month or so. This is to insure that all of our customers, regardless of car brand, experience a smooth transition. An Odd Problem with an Odder Repair We recently had a customer that was experiencing some

drivability issues. It was not missing or hesitating, it just felt low on power under medium to hard acceleration. We performed all the normal tests, one of which told us it was running lean. We performed updates to the engine software. Additionally, we “smoke” tested the entire intake system and found nothing. However, for us, it seemed to run well and we released the car after resetting its adaptations. We asked the customer to return if the problem resurfaced. A few months had passed and she returned with an oil leak and the drivability issue. We had already looked at it and had previously repaired another oil leak, so the checkout was free. When she dropped it off, I explained that a bad leak could possibly cause a rough running problem too. Remove the oil filler cap on a BMW and you’ll see what I mean. The engine is a sealed unit, the engine breather system relies on a completely sealed engine as it returns overpressure back into the intake system in a closed loop. We found the oil pan bolts (finger tight) as the source of the leak. Additionally, a transmission bolt was in the wrong place and had never been and never could be tightened. The oil pan bolts are aluminum and are “torque to yield” one time use only. However, as a favor to a very good customer, we snugged them down for her to stem the leak temporarily. She had to go through her service records to see when the transmission had been removed. The car had only been worked on at a dealership until its visit to us, which was quite unnerving. The good news is that her car runs perfectly again and for now at least, her oil leak is resolved! Editor’s notes: Walter Ford is the owner of Valley Motorwerks.
