ANABELLE SMITH BIGNO Born and raised in Scotland of French and Scottish parents, I have lived, painted and exhibited work in Oman, Venezuela, France, the US and the UAE from 2001 to 2016. 3 years study at the Glassell School of Arts in Houston, Texas allowed me to further skills in inks, watercolor and acrylics and participated in shows held at Canal Street Gallery, in the Glassell perimeter, at the Watercolor Society of Houston, in Skyline Art Services as well as in various smaller venues. I now live in Abu-Dhabi where I continue to paint. I am at present exploring with acrylics and inks with a multitude of collage techniques. Often the work is totally abstract. At other times it hinges on a hint of representational - while playing with the way a recognizable element can move naturally into the abstract. The process is a magical one of fluids, textures and subtly graded hues which sift, merge and fuse to form an art form which never sits still.

ANASTASIA YABLOKOVA Anastasia Yablokova is an emerging Russian artist, born in St Petersburg in 1976. She attended school of design and studied history of art and culture at St.Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts. Yablokova has been painting from early childhood, but only in 2007 devoted all her time to painting. She took private lessons from a professor, head of fine arts department of St. Peterburg University of Technology and Design and other renowned Russian artists. From 2009 she has been living in Dubai. Earlier this year Yablokova had her exhibition in Heritage House in Dubai; which was of great success. It proved that the artist’s style and subject matter are popular among the residents of Dubai. Shannon Crees was born in 1979 in Sydney, Australia. Trained as a fashion designer, Crees’ artworks reflect her love to patterns. They are colourful and contain bold lines. Crees likes experimenting with different media. Most of her time Crees spends creating large-scale works and participating in “live” painting shows. She often receives commissions: Vodaphone, Absolute vodka, Pepsi Max are just few among her long list of clients. Her work was displayed in Sydney's' Museum of Contemporary Art for Australian Fashion week. She was the only Australian artist invited to participate in the high profile line up of ‘the best graffiti artists in the world’ at Banksy’s cans festival 2 in London. Crees was the winner of Leichhardt councils 'Wall to Wall' competition, with an 80 square meter mural, and has featured on television shows such as ‘Getaway’, ‘The Apprentice’, as well as a profile on the ABC News art segment.

Lama Rommo My shelter from death was to refuge to life.. Work ran out of authenticity by the improvisation of the minute, the movement started the contact between the lines started. The lines are simple, but the relations that breed are complicated and the spaces are so different. The structure is simple and complicated at a time. It reflects my view about a reality that does not accept guesses. We face it silent. Our limbs have become deformed while looking for love and infinite time. Looking for emotions devoid of the future. The horizon in front of us is an illusion. The truth is a color between grey and black. The logic I used in my work was in a place between figure and content. It was impartiality out of consciousness and unconsciousness. An imitation between the line and the vacuum. Here comes the uniqueness of these works, which are done with a free graphic style and a Plastic artist logic which reflects its different analysis, in order to be excitingly linked on the painting..

PETRA KALTENBACH My name is Petra Kaltenbach. Active as a qualified graphic designer (visual communicator) and successful managing director of an advertising agency in the past, I now dedicate myself to painting. I have long been researching life and beliefs. I express my observations and impressions in my art. What are our lives like in the here and now? In our over-digitalised world, in which there no longer appear to be any certainties, we humans are increasingly developing the need for the real, for structures and also for limits. We seek security, contact, and predictability. We seek roots. Among other things, these considerations led to my intensive examination of henna motifs in 2012. Made from sand, they added a further dimension to my pictures. With their ancient spiritual techniques, with their origins in India, North Africa and the Near East, they represent the answer to humans’ yearning for depth and structure – which now so often remains unsatisfied. My current path through our ‘hypermodern times’ and the desire to involve observers more actively in the transformational processes that underlie my work, in turn led me to a completely new and exciting method of representing the multi-dimensionality that is everywhere sought for. Haptic and optic combined with acoustic. The real and the virtual worlds combined in a single work of art – and with great leeway for one’s own interpretation and interaction. With my ‘QR art’, painting gains access to the World Wide Web and vice versa. The observer is invited to actively discover the work of art. It is their interventions that first trigger the transformational process of the work. The new is created here with the help of the digital world without negating the old, proven and experienced.

SADDIE SULAIMAN Passion for art is like second nature to me. Being able to create something out of nothing gives me a sense of accomplishment. My art is based on pure instincts and professed freedom of expression along the journey ultimately to create my very own magnum opus (masterpiece). It is inspired by a lifetime travelogue including messages and reminders. Paying attention to details and intricate designs has become effortless and a distinct signature in my oeuvres. I work with acrylic, oil, pencil and mixed media and use a lot of vibrant colors and textures. My visions are often inspired by my natural surroundings, usually from travelling across the globe to observing everyday life to learning Quranic verses and studying the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As an artist, I continue to explore ways to create unique artworks in terms of the what the subject matter is, how it is best presented, and, most importantly, what impacts the artwork leave on the viewers regardless of their background. Whatever the reactions may be – a nod, a look of curiosity or confusion, or maybe even a blank stare – I often feel satisfied due to the fact that I have shared not just something called art but an art created from my heart and soul full of passion. My artworks are based on three important elements ie. Future of UAE Nation – Its Challenges – Preserve the Heritage.

MOHAMMED AL ASTAD Mohammed Al Astad seizes upon core functional elements that form the fabric of traditional Emirati society. By re-appropriating them as objects of aesthetic appreciation, these elements become both representational forms and evocative statements entrenched in emotion and memory. Mohammed has developed a new technique where beaches become a sort of ‘beach tomb’, which employs the forces of nature. Iron is buried with canvas for 2-3 weeks, resulting in abstract works that bear the imprints of rust. Each piece is unique and can never be replicated. The first Emirati to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from the American University, Washington DC in Graphic Design (1998). Mohammed has participated in over 300 group exhibitions and 20 solo shows nationally, regionally and internationally over 27 years, including the ADMAF international touring exhibition, ‘Three Generations’ (2013-4).

TALA ATROUNI •

Wrought in bold lines, versatile brushwork, and a virtuoso approach to color, Tala Atrouni’s vivid canvases shimmer with the energy and vibrancy of her native Beirut. Atrouni’s close relationship with her home city is a key element in her impressionistic approach to painting, one that challenges the limits of visibility into abstraction. Exposed and enriched by the cosmopolitan society and culture of Beirut, Atrouni grew up admiring her father’s art of calligraphy, poetry, and drawing. Despite her lack of formal exposure to art in high school, Atrouni’s passion for fine art drove her to pursue further education in the field. Enrolling in the School of Fine Arts at the Lebanese American University in Beirut in 1995, she earned her Bachelor’s degree three years later with an award of excellence in the art of painting and sculpture. For 11 years Atrouni lived in San Francisco, California with her husband, inviting new perspectives and richer opportunities in the pursuit of a career in the arts. After working in the high tech industry for three years as a publishing team leader, Atrouni decided to dedicate herself oncee more to her calling and pursue her graduate studies in the arts. She attended the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, graduating in 2005 with an MFA degree in illustration. Following 4 years in Muscat, Atrouni is now living and working in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Khulood Al Jabri •

Khulood Al Jabri’s elegant and ethereal body of work brims with confidence. Al Jabri is able to fix her own horizon, experimenting with the vibrant, fraught color schemes of the Expressionist school and the harmonic balance of the French Symbolists. Relishing the contrasts between her day-to-day occupation and her creative craft, the artist prides herself on the immersive qualities of her paintings, which she feels are able to rekindle and recreate the viewer’s first encounter with a work of art.

Streamlined by years of experience, research, and innovation, Al Jabri begins with subjects that are largely traditional in nature: from snapshots of tribal life to the ancient traditions of Emiratis. First and foremost, she feels herself to be a researcher in color, consistently looking to the future, to the next period, and how to address the next theme through the study of light and movement. Having long explored with the textural surface of the canvas, Al Jabri’s spontaneity of expression celebrates the experience of womanhood through steady and well-paced movements.

Having taken to the canvas at a young age, Al Jabri broke from painting for two decades, all the while involving herself in cultural and artistic activities, building her unique sense of intellectual rigor, and cultivating a talent for boldness and depth. Her triumphant return has seen her explore the achievements of Emirati women, whose role in society continually challenges the notion of progress itself.

KARINE ROCHE French painter Karine Roche specializes in sumptuous cityscapes, dense and overgrown foliage, and dazzling arrangements of organic forms. Her keen eye for contrasts in color allows both built forms and natural foliage to intermingle and coexist, culminating in a remarkable new approach to landscape painting. Since receiving her diploma in Paris studying how to visualize the Architectural Environment from the College of Applied Arts and Crafts, Olivier de Serres, Roche has exhibited at the Catherine et André Hug Gallery and the Suty Gallery in Paris. In 2009 she was given her first solo exhibition, "Kunst im Karre", in Munich. Interest from the Middle East in Roche’s work began in 2010 when she featured as part of a group exhibition at the Alice Mogabgab Gallery in Beirut. Roche has resided in Abu Dhabi for 5 years. Her first solo exhibition in the UAE was held in 2011 at Art Sawa Gallery in Dubai. She has since exhibited at the Sharjah Art Museum, in Abu Dhabi, with the Institut Francais, and at the National Theater. Balancing her creative work with teaching, Roche tutors students in painting at ADACH (Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage). Her paintings are part of municipal collections of Vitry-sur-Seine and Strasbourg in France, part of the collection of the Museum Lake in Hangzhou, China and the Colas Foundation in France. She has worked designing postcards for UNESCO and has participated in various contemporary art fairs such as Art Paris, Star't Strasbourg, Lille Art Fair, Art Elysées and Slick.
