ExhibitionCenter in Cerrillos DegreeProject JorgeOlivos/ Arturo Garcia Location:Cerrillos/ Santiago/ Chile. Studio advisor:ManuelAmaya. Date 2005 The goverment bought the Cerrillosairport.The planis to make a huge remodÊlation as a part of the centennial anniversary of the country. The project was approached as 3 bodies, the first one congregates the theatres, the second one, as a bridge of transition, the cafeteria , the third one is the fair ground space of 100.000 square feets. The area of Santiago in which the proyect is , has the complexity of having huge thermal deltas between day and night. To avoid expensive air conditioning , we proposed making a retractile green house. This was achived through a complex double-façade bracket , which holded the photovoltaic panels , and had a circulating system,with rolersto move. During summer this brackets could be folded.

HOTEL 17

Project coordination:CarlosSeisdedos Location: Cerro Concepción / Valparaiso / Chile U6Arquitects.Urquiza-Seisdedos Finished in 2010 The proyect looked to become the first Boutique Hotel specialized in wine tasting. The breath taking view is the scenario for the 11 rooms of the hotel. As a part of a remodellling proyect,the Hotel was an old house from the Concepcion Hill. Built entirely in the inside the main façade has to be left intact. The mayor’s office was strict about not changing the core-structure of the house. A contemporary glass attic was designed to leave more space for new rooms. Several case studies were made for the main façade.

The 14 minimalist villas are arranged around a series of linked courtyard gardens at each level. The villas are designed with the simple palette of materials, white rendered walls,stone cladding and glass. On the externa elevations openable glazed panels articulate the faรงade andallow the building to maximize the breezescoming off the valley.The route of the staircase through the building was carefully consideredto open up different views of the courtyards and the wider landscape. By manipulating a small number of materials and details each villa appears unique whileoverallthe projectisviewedasa singlesculpturalcomposition.

GROOVE TOWER

COMPETITION

Project : Jorge Olivos/ José Tomás Videla Location: Manila / Philippines GeAi arquitectos 2007

The Grove Tower is conceived to provide a comfortable indoor environment using passive means to reduce mechanical means such as air conditioning in at least 35%. The typical floor area of 2,600 m2 is divided in two wings, creating an atrium, just above a ground floor garden, that allows natural daylight go “down” and the indoor air go “up” using the stack effect, improved by the “wing” shape of the building. Plants are also part of the indoor design, moderating the indoor climate, adding shade where needed, and filtering dust. The wings are grouped in a compact shape to protect the building from the strong winds and typhoon effects, that way the atrium became an architectural feature the balance the indoor environment. The façade incorporates shading louvers


GROOVE TOWER The buildings are orientated in its lenghtwise North-South, and the distance between them allows that no shadows from other buildings will cover the south faรงade in the winter midday. This south faรงade have a conservatory, improving the heat gains and keeping the house warm in the night. Building main circulation are all across north faรงade, apartments are duplex and they open both sides, allowing cross ventilation an improving the solar entering angle and heat gains of internal mass in winter. The buildings main circulations and the service rooms in houses works as a buffer zone.
