It might bot have resulted in victories but our A and A reserve teams did us proud at the weekend when they took on the mightofMillicentandcompeted stronglyforfourquarters…
For the A Grade, coming off two rounds where they had faded badly in final quarters, to go toe to toe with the second ranked Saints was a real credit to the youngline-up.
Mykaela Thiele stepped up into the goal keeper role and again showed she is more than up to the task, taking on the tough job of denying Tabatha Sanderson too much ball and it was one of the Millicent shooter’s more quietgamesfortheseason…
Ellie Bouchier was again influential, getting some important touches, rebounding strongly and also being importantintransition…
Tully McShane is the ultimate quiet achiever Playing wing defence can be a thankless role as so often the main aim is merely denying your opponent ball but that is what Tully did at the weekend, not allowing Daisy Tunkin to be too influential and denying easy access to the circle’s edge and putting pressureoneverypass…
Megan Reid is another quiet achiever – she just runs hard every week and is careful with ball in hand and she was as consistent as ever through the midcourt…
Ruby Richter has thrived in her return to the top side and not only does she hit the circle hard and run all day but she is a sneaky defensive asset with her willingness to try and win the ballback…
Alyssa Duncan continues to be a shining light in this team and a strong leader. She controls the attacking end of the court with her direction and strong leads and has mentored Gracie Dalton as they build a strong shooting partnership Alyssa does a mountain of work up the court to bring the ball down and then takes control in the goal third to ensure a good shooting position isfound.
Grace Dalton has been a revelation in the A Grade team with her composure and willingness to compete – the experience she has gained and the talent she has shown in her debut season bodes well for the future…
The A Reserve was also impressive despite not winning thegameastheytookonthetop rankedMillicentteam.
Mykaela did a great job in defenceonarguablythegreatest playertheWBNAhaseverseen–DonnaDenton–andshestuckat thetaskandwonplentyofball.
Charlene had a great battle with Abby Denton and her ability to get her hands on the ball and disrupt the Saints efforts to score was impressive… She was also critical in bringing the ball downcourt…
Joirdy Bell, Chelsea Ryan and Maddie Burley controlled the wings–tightcheckingindefence and strong driving when in offence and their work rate to ensure we kept possession and foundawaytoscore…
Caitlin was impressive again as she ran hard against a couple of (younger!!!) opponents but she was still hugely influential in both offence and defence and her leadership is always important…
Jaymee was a running machine again, offering time and time again to give her team mates a safe outlet and her shooting in difficult conditions was accurate She also got some importantdefensivetouches…
Georgia has hit her straps in the past few weeks and she made good position in the circle and finishedaccuratelytoensureher team mates were rewarded for winningtheballback…
Both sides have had some tough times in 2023 but Round 12 (outside of their wins) was a round to be proud of and build on…
