01 SPORTS FOR CLIMATE GSAPP Advanced V Studio
Randall’s island has 40% of New York City’s sports field, yet three quarters of its fields will be compromised after a violent storm. Climate change is starting to impact every aspect of sports, such as damage to playing surfaces and unexpected cancellation of events due to heatwave and unseasonal rainfall. Designing a sports center for climate action in Randall’s Island will raise the community awareness of climate change and find possible solutions through

collective action. The building will serve as a gathering, training, and educational space for people with interest in sports, playing a leading role in climate change and inspire a large audience for actions. Climate change is a gradual, ongoing process. This sports center will adhere to the UNFCCC’s sports initiative, to educate, communicate and advocate for climate action. Everyone has a climate impact and everyone can take action to reduce it.

A Local Landmark
The Sport Center for Climate Action will be a landmark timber structure, with an elevated open ground level and

PARTICIPATORY RESIDENTIAL GSAPP Core III Studio Critic: Adam Frampton Collaboration with Jacob Hu Fall 2019
The apartment complex uses a typical New York courtyard tenement as the general form and attempts to funnel residents towards enclosed public square where a community can develop. The street level is consequentially open at the corners of the of the courtyard, resolving the darker spaces of these corners by breaking them open. The wings of the apartment complex follow the cardinal directions of the site, and each wing will house a public program specific to the neighborhood. The corridor is the most important design feature. It not only connects all the amenities in this building together, but also creates spaces for social interaction.

1/16”=1’-0” Model North-east view at East 152 street
South Elevation Light gray precast concrete as part of the facade to give a monolithic feeling
West Elevation Empty spaces on the facade for the view and wind penetration
Zoomed-in Corner Drawing Corridor combined with community amenities to boost the interaction and activity
Interior Courtyard The interior courtyard is open to the resident and public to serve as a community recreation space
Ground Floor Plan The plan is organized to have a continuous corridor and an interior courtyard for interactions
South Entry Facade is manipulated to create a stacking effect and concrete finish is used to save budget
03 BUBBLE TERMINAL CED Arch 100D Studio Critic: Eleanor Pries Spring 2019
The goal for this terminal is to combat the rising sea-level. According to current research, the sea level is likely to rise 30feet in the next 100 years. Therefore creating a resilient building is necessary. The three main airport in the San Francisco bay area will be completely under water, and needs to be relocated elsewhere. During this transitional period, people might need to use hovercraft as means of travel, bringing them to destinations around the west coast.

Description
Since Napa pipe was a steel site, keeping the history of its industrial background is important. Hollow section steel is used for its structure due to its flexibility in nature. I studied Toyo Ito’s Sendai Mediatheque to create the most efficient main structure.
Using a light, transparent, inflatable facade will benefit the building. Inflatable facade has great insulation value, lightness in structure, allows light to pass through, and easy to replace. I used National Space Centre in Leicester, UK as my case study to develop my building enclosure.
Minimize concrete usage by creating efficient floor structure. It not only will increase the span of the floor slab but also lower the carbon footprint. I studied Philippe Block’s concrete work as my precedent.
Inflatable chair, train, and boat are incorporated into the design. Inflatable gives users a friendly feeling, and it is an advantageous material for the future. I read the inflatable books to gain ideas of the to design the corresponding equipment.
Study Models Studies in material helps to create efficient structure and enclosure for the design. I experimented with pet-g plastic, house wrap, flash sheet and bubble glue to experiment the facade. The quality of inflated facade is preferred for its lightness and versatility.

04 (IN)EFFICIENCY CED Arch 100C Studio Critic: Neyran Turan Collaboration with Leah Lock Fall 2018
This housing project examines efficiency and inefficiency – not as goals of the building to achieve, but rather to propose an alternative understanding of the term “inefficiency” within the context of housing. Individually, each unit is efficient. However, the primary agitator is the rotation and intersection of these bars, each of which contain a single type of unit. These inefficiencies are illustrated when the extreme lack of space forces elements such as stairs, furniture, or walls into non-useful and conventionally problematic configurations.
Courtyard Spacial Quality The courtyard are created by subtracting cubic volumes from the massing. It creates diverse spatial typologies and enhances the organization of the form. It allows for better lighting condition, promotes social interaction, and creates unique spaces.
Section
This set of three drawings looks at three particular locations in our building, exploring the spatial qual
multiple programs, which is the residual of efficiency. The gain of this experiment was the richness of v

lities inside the building envelope. We tried to show the awkward spaces created by intersection of
volume created by the operations; the limit of efficiency is reached and eventually created inefficiency.
Birds Eye View The massing is generated by subtracting cubic volumes from the intersection of rectangular tubes. The exterior grid are facade are partially diamond shape windows.
Plans and Unit Types Each floor possesses unique spatial quality in plan. The intersections of different unit types creates odd spaces in each floor, which exposes the limit of efficiency.
ALTERNATING VIEW GSAPP Adv. Curtain Wall Critic: Robert Heintges Spring 2020
This is a unitized curtain wall system which has the benefit of fast installation and quality assurance. The curtain wall design contains two systems, the zigzag part and flat part. The alternating systems create a contrasting patterns on the facade.

06 GREENPOINT THEATRE GSAPP Tech IV Revit Project, Group Collaboration Critic: Nicole Dosso Fall 2019
The theatre is located along the East River in Brooklyn, NY. This is not only a multipurpose community center but also an extension of the park. Elevations and roofs are developed to provide users every possibility to enjoy the river view. Structure, enlosure, mechanical systems all required to be considered in Revit.
