Concept Since ancient times, buildings have been acting as shelters freeing people from weathers, with artificial lighting extend time for activities. However, the rigidness of buildings and light bulbs cut people from nature. So, the possibility to combine lightning and shelter into an intellectual building prompting interaction between human and nature is evaluated.
Controls design When people approach the building, pressure sensors and ultrasonic transducers will sense the positions and input the information to Arduino microcontroller. Then the microcontroller will give different electric tension for each electromagnetic valve. Later on, the valves control the air supply for each intellectual unit accordingly. Finally, the certain intellectual bending unit and the lumious unit will bend and expand respectively, which leads to the motion of the building and the emiting of light, as we want.
MASTER LAYOUT PLAN
Techniques Inspired by soft robotics, we find a remarkable material that could be highly stretched, could emit light, and could also sense internal and external pressure.
Nature of luminescence and transparency change Operation Principle
Then we use sensors and control circuit to drive the architecture, which is built up with these kinds of units, moving and bringing in daylight automatically. In this way, architectures become the media connecting nature and human beings. It seems that architectures can also have motion, communicating with us by light. Using these unique material, we design an architecture that combines lighting, shelter, people- friendly interacting installation all together as an “organism.
The intellectual luminous unit use an electroluminescent material that is capable of large uniaxial stretching and surface area changes while actively emitting light. Layers of transparent hydrogel electrodes sandwich a ZnS phosphor-doped dielectric elastomer layer, creating thin rubber sheets that change illuminance and capacitance under deformation. In addition, the density of our transparent elastomer material, silicon, can determine the luminousness. So when the unit expand by the air pressure, the silicon will become less dense, which introduces more light into the building.

PROPOTYPE EXPERIMENT
Nature of motion As we know, different tensile property and different thickness of material draw to distinct expansion. So when the unit is inflated, the chambers inside expand. The thinner and more elastic side of the chambers will bulge out more. This causes the unit to bend. In addition, the density of our transparent elastomer material, silicon, can determine the luminousness. So when the unit expand by the air pressure, the silicon will become less dense, which introduces more light into the building.

MASTER LAYOUT PLAN
NIIGHT VIEW OF PARIS
When looked up, the whole Bio-lighting Architecture is just like the tree shade. It is an invisible lighting installation that let you be emerged in the beautiful nature. When you look down, the light plotted will be started as a mimic jig-saw puzzle of the Paris city. We’ve studied the street and city pattern of Paris. Fascinated with its special radical style and night view, we planned to copy this image on to our illumination design. With people below, the light would be shining like a creature, mimicking the livening city. In this way, architecture becomes the media connecting nature and human beings by light.
