Quality Craftsmanship + Artisan Traditions + Social Mission Each Yabal product celebrates the centuries-old Mayan weaving art of the back-strap loom. Yabal fabrics are all meticulously handwoven by cooperatives of indigenous women weavers in the highlands of Guatemala. We work hand-in-hand together with over 50 artisans to create an accessories collection that combines traditional and contemporary design. Yabal is more than an accessories brand, we are a mission-driven business committed to empowering cooperatives of women artisans in rural communities in Guatemala. As Fair Trade certified members of the World Fair Trade Organization we ensure that we pay fair wages, invest in long term trade relations, preserve cultural artistic traditions, and uplift the most vulnerable artisans through sustainable work opportunities. All profits and donations are used to fund important social programs for our women artisans, such as, educational scholarships, micro-credits, paid maternity leave, capacity-building, and a women's small business training program.
Yab'al means hope in k'iche', the indigenous language of the women weavers of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan.
