Hepatic Arterial Infusion Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital
The Hepatic Arterial Infusion (HAI) Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital provides patients with a specialized and targeted approach to delivering chemotherapy. Primarily used in the treatment of advanced liver metastases from colorectal cancer and in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, HAI delivers high doses of chemotherapy safely and directly to tumors in the liver via the hepatic artery, without additional side effects.
Smilow Cancer Hospital is the only hospital in Connecticut that is currently offering this FDA approved therapy, and it is available at several
of our locations. The procedure consists of implanting an HAI pump (the size of a hockey puck) under the skin. The pump contains a catheter that is connected to the hepatic artery that allows for the direct infusion of chemotherapy into the arterial blood supply of the liver.
