WITH POPULAR EDUCATION PROJECT Seeking to inspire alternative forms of education to benefit the poor and working class. A workshop in street theatre leading to an interactive play, where the personal impact of TB will be explored. See the world from lived realities and beyond, and experience the joy of public story telling.

STORY-TELL

WITH OSWALD KUCHERERA Political activist and emerging writer facilitates a discussion about poetry and short story writing, and how they can be used as tools for social change. He will recite his short story about the Khayelitsha train ride.

MAP DANCE

WITH JACKIE MANYAAPELO ‘Satisfaction Index’ is a solo dance performance that is designed to inspire with honesty, beauty and eclectic glamour. The work will be crafted to music that reflects contemporary African society with echoes of religious and traditional music. ‘Jast Muv’ is a workshop for those who just wish to dance!

WITH ANNEMI CONRADI How does the history of slave trade still shape our society and culture? And how can poetry and visual arts help make sense of painful memory? Young and critical art academic shares her research of the 18th century slave ship found recently near Clifton beach.

Do you have a good idea for a creative project or brand but don’t know where to start? A presentation and workshop on how to envision, design and create a successful clothing label. TrylAnglez is a young, emerging fashion brand of afro-urban street-wear.

WITH CHIPO HAMUKOMA Leave your wallets at home and put your thinking caps on! Chipo is a passionate economics graduate and naturally gifted dancer. Workshop unpacking the basics of economic theory and how it relates to everyday life.

WITH NONZALISEKO WENDY HODINI Do you prefer an African name or an English one? Nonzaliseko Wendy was born in Johannesburg and grew up in rural Eastern Cape becoming an artist who is tired of people sitting in injustice. She will create a sculpture to awake the public. ‘Ukukhupha imbilini’ is based on a chair as a departure point to reconstruct memory and history.

WITH VALERIA GESELEV Valeria is a curator and journalist with exceptionally curly hair and a funny accent. She explores how art and creativity can be used for social purposes, with a session of short stories and post-capitalist performance-lecture.

WITH BRENDA SKELENGE Learn to click in fun and fresh conversations with the coolest teacher in town in a beginners isiXhosa class. ‘Masivane’- let’s understand each other. Vinyl listening sessions for the Golden Age. A selection of nostalgic music records for local old age clubs.

WITH KHAYA WITBOOI What is the difference between graffiti and street-art? Stenciling is now honoured as fine art. Khaya, a leading artist with a refined socio-political voice will facilitate a workshop in how to make political street-art.

WITH ZIMASA MAY All the garbage and waste around us is a pile of art materials waiting to be used. Community activist, theatre-maker and artist Zimasa May takes us on a journey from dumping-sites to artworks in a three day workshop.

WITH MIRANDA VINJWA How to make artworks without paper? Can we draw image without paint? Miranda a leading, inspiring Khayelitsha-based mosaic artist from the Spier Academy will share her passion for making beautiful art with stones and broken glass in a practical workshop.

WITH JOSEPH WEINBERG Currently completely his degree in African music, Joe breathes, lives and eats capoeira- a traditional martial art and dance form from Brazil. An introductory class to capoeira and open musical jam looking at the connection between Africa and Brazil.

Siddiq is a big dreaming activist and researcher with a critical eye. ‘The Right to the City,’ a discussion on the reality and philosophy of land occupations and land naming in contemporary Western Cape, like Marikana, Phillipi.

WITH PEOPLE’S EDUCATION How can we talk about sex education with youth? Workshop and performance on new narratives of sexuality, relationships and personal growth led by Ongezwa Mbele, an explosive theatre director part of the refreshing People’s Education collective.

WITH CHAPTERZ Founded by three young musicians who fell in love with music and wanted to influence positive change around their community. Combining a melting pot of jazz, soul, gospel and hip hop- their versatility pushes them to explore their full musical range.

WITH THEMBA BALENI Independent filmmaker who is our neighbour at the Harare Academy will screen three of his short movies made in Cape Town. He will also stage a play asking questions about the church economy.

BREATHE WITH GUY BUTTERY, DAVE GARDNER, AIMEE DU PLESSIS A space created for you to leave your troubles behind and dedicate time to yourself. Together, Dave and Aimee will lead a fun 30 minute flow yoga class while Guy fills the air with his soothing guitar, sitar and mbira sounds.

RISE AND SHINE

WITH TheCITY Learn how to perform as a band and to do things with music. The most interesting young and fresh music collective from Cape Town will perform their original mix of Jazz, Afro-funk and pop.

WITH LOUIS MOHOLO AND THE BROTHERHOOD Mega-legend, South African cultural hero, drummer Louis Tebogo Moholo Moholo, comes straight from his tour at London Jazz Festival to celebrate brotherhood in a giant orchestra performance to be held on the last day of November in the Harare Square. Five days prior he will facilitate a workshop for all interested musicians in the combination of sound and soul.
