HALF BREAD TECHNIQUE
/
post-capitalism for beginners
About the project 1.
This production uses theatre for a social purpose: inspiring us to think differently about sharing and money; and ultimately triggering new ideas about economy.
2.
The play starts with a person standing on an empty stage: “I was paid R1,000 to occupy the stage tonight; and I’ll share the money with anyone who will occupy the stage with me”. And so the play develops in interaction with the audience.
3.
The play was conceptualised by Swiss performer Martin Schick and is now re-staged by a group of creatives in Cape Town.
4.
You can see a promo Schick did for his European tour: http://vimeo.com/42401982. With much excitement, Valerie Geselev, Curator 071-550-1427 Val.guess@gmail.com
Selected texts about the play:
“Happiness is the only thing that doubles when it is shared ... “HALFBREADTECHNIQUE” is a strikingly simple but original way of
addressing the injustice in the world. The thrilling performance tell us much about the art of surviving as an artist and as a human being in our moneyruled society. This intelligent and enjoyable induction into post-capitalism à la Schick provides audiences with food for thought. http://www.tanztheater-international.de/event_reader/events/halfbreadtechnique-post-capitalism-for-beginners.html
“humorous, yet unsettling insight into alternative ways of thinking about the money economy, capitalism and sharing – particularly relevant in the context of the current international debate /

“HALFBREADTECHNIQUE is a quite specific guideline for a society after capitalism. The technique developed by Martin Schick functions through sharing. You give half of your property and share everything: the stage, the audience, the cultural funding, the props etc. The Swiss performance artist poses the question of how much we need for our own well-being and what value there is in “too much” or “too little”... surprising, funny and something to think about / http://www.tqw.at/en/events/halfbreadtechnique-postcapitalism-beginners?date=2013-09-26_20-30
