URBAN TESTS

155

Before synthesizing these drivers into a composite map, the students conducted spatial “tests” of the most intriguing and necessary components of each masterplan speculations. These tests “zoomed” into the site to understand the area of intervention as a human scale. The components tested were: PENINSULAR EXTENTIONS OF THE CITY METRO SYSTEMS // “GATES” OF ACCESS “SUPER-BRIDGE” RIVER CROSSINGS PUBLIC CONNECTIONS // BARRIERS OF ACCESS AGRICULTURE // RIPARIAN BALANCES Necessarily, each student team naturally cross-pollinated with the next, forming hybridized conditions more developed than their masterplan speculation prototypes. From these tests, a series of site ripe for intervention emerged, helping to narrow the focus of the interventions, and suggesting various points of genesis for an overall masterplan scheme.

FROM THE CITY TO THE RIVER:

OCT / 11-18 / 2014

179

The team visited Delhi from October 11 - 18th, 2014. They relied on their own maps and shear fearlessness to explore the city’s “backyard” and find their way each day to the Yamuna. While in Delhi, the team did not meet a single resident who had a memory of visiting the Yamuna within the last 20 years.
