The project:
During the summer of 2019, the municipality of Honfleur voted the financing of the reconstruction of the Mora, the ship that led Guillaume Le Conquérant to England in 1066. At the same time, the city launched a project to enhance its maritime past within a dedicated space. The project was born out of this news and aims to create a showcase for this site as well as a museum presenting the maritime history of Honfleur and Normandy. The project is set up on the land of the mole, this thin strip of land in front of the historic port between marshes and port basins, between natural spaces and urban space. This space testifies the history of the port and is now unused. It is located opposite of the historic center and offers a clear view of the port. Therefore it seems appropriate to set up this program on this site.
