ear Friends, fellow Cattlemen and Valued Customers, Greetings from the beautiful mountains of Southern Utah. Welcome to our 35th annual bred cow and heifer sale. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you. We have something for everyone in this sale and the quality is as good as you can find anyplace in America. These cattle have worked for others and they will work for you. Two years ago Jirl Buck of Oklahoma bought a bred cow in our sale for $7,000. In his sale last week this cows heifer calf sold for $50,000 and the cow sold for $20,000. In the same sale Jones Show Cattle from Ohio and Trennepohl farms from Indiana bought a show heifer for $6,000. A year later she sold as a bred heifer for $9,500 and the man that bought her just sold her heifer calf a month ago for $36,000. We could go on and on telling of successes people have had with cattle they have bought from us. THESE ARE NOT ORDINARY CATTLE; IF YOU WANT THE BEST WE HAVE THEM IN VOLUME. I am 79 years old and have spent my life breeding and selecting this herd of cattle for MATERNAL TRAITS, PERFORMANCE, and EYE APPEALING LOOKS that you always enjoy seeing. We have never bred to many club calf bulls, because we want to keep the maternal traits in these cattle so they have the growth and milk to raise a 700 lb calf without creep, keep their flesh and stay fat while doing it. However, these cows and heifers really cross great on club calf bulls and raise very fancy calves. We have been AI’ing for 45 years. This has produced one of America’s greatest cow herds. This year we bred 400 in 30 days and had a 97% pregnancy rate. We have concluded there is never a bad time to purchase the right kind of heifers and cows. Beaver is 200 miles away from Salt Lake City or Las Vegas, NV, on I-15. From Salt Lake, Sky West Airline commuter (The Delta Connection) serves Cedar City, which is 50 miles south of Beaver. Beaver has many excellent motels and restaurants, and an airstrip for private planes. You must call us to meet your plane as there is no taxi service.

Ranch and Sale Location
Once you arrive in Beaver, go to the Post Office corner on Main and Center Streets in town. Take Milford Highway 21, go west on Center 1 & 1/2 miles to the Yardley Black Cow/Calf sign, turn right and proceed north and west across the field to our sale barn. You will pass our house 1/4 mile north of the highway, but continue one more mile to the barn.
UPON Leaving Hwy 21, traveling north on the gravel road, except for our house and lot, the horses, cattle and land do not belong to us until you cross the cattle guard just below our sale barn.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
TERMS: No cattle will leave sale yards until full settlement has been made immediately after the sale. Payment terms are cash or a good check. All “returned” or insufficient checks will be immediately turned over to the District Attorney for immediate prosecution. This is a felony and charges will be filed. BIDDING: All animals will sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or challenges regarding bids will be settled by the auctioneer whose decision will be final. RISK: All animals are at the owner’s risk prior to their sale and become the property of the buyer as soon as the animal is declared sold by the auctioneer at which time the buyer assumes all risk. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over any printed matter. BREEDING DATES: Heifers will start calving February 1st and cows February 20th. Most of the cows will calve in March with some April and a few into May. WE HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE SIRE TO WHICH THE VETERINARIAN, TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY, HAS DETERMINED THE ANIMAL BRED TO. However, we cannot guarantee they will calve from this mating. HEALTH: Every animal in this sale, to the best of our knowledge, is healthy and eligible for interstate shipment. Cows were vaccinated last spring for IBR, P13, BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, 5-way lepto and trichomoniasis. The heifer calves have been fully vaccinated and boostered. All cows that have had calves are vaccinated in January with Scour Guard 4 and 8 Way. They just need a booster and the bred heifers should get two shots, three weeks apart before they calve. All Cattle have had Dectomax, and given OneShot Ultra 8. Calves have had two shots Bova Shield Gold and OneShot Ultra 8 BREEDING GUARANTEE: All females sold under the conditions “safe in calf” have been pregnancy checked by a licensed veterinarian and sell with no further guarantee. No guarantee is given that bred females will deliver a live calf. All heifer calves are guaranteed breeders. If the heifer failed to breed, we require a statement from the veterinarian who checked her, stating the problem and that the problem was not due to negligence or improper management, which will void the guarantee. This guarantee may be void if 1) a female is highly obese, has been shown extensively past July 1st and has not steadily been attempted to be bred and 2) if she is flushed at any time in the first year after the date of the sale. These two exemptions do not apply if the female is examined by our vet to have an underdeveloped reproductive tract that would have been present at the time she was sold. Infections or other enlargement do not constitute “undeveloped.” 100% of the purchase price less salvage value of the female will be credited to the next sale. No other expenses occurred in the female will be reimbursed to the buyer. In cases where the animal is subject to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques or damage caused by foreign bodies after the sale, this contract is null and void. The seller is not responsible for sickness not apparent at time of sale. It is useless to breed more than two heat cycles, artificially. If they haven’t settled artificially then, they must be put with a fertile bull for the summer. After salvage value we give you credit in next year’s sale or give a heifer of equal value. In no event will the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price, less salvage value. AI CERTIFICATE: The purchase of A.I. certificates is the responsibility of the buyer, as well as, the registration of all calves born after sale day. REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES: Supplied on eligible animals upon request on the sales slip at time of settlement or within 20 days. Leave the name and address to which you would like purchases transferred on your sales slip. CONTRACT: The above Terms and Conditions of this sale shall constitute a contract between buyer and seller and be equally binding on both. Animals that are resold following the sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected there to are not covered by these Terms and Conditions. TRUCKING: All trucking, pricing and trucking fees are the responsibility of the buyer, but we will help you all we can with coordinating loads.
LIABILITIES: Although accidents at livestock sales seldom occur, everyone attending this sale does so at their own risk. We try to keep the most accurate records possible and have bull tight fences, but once on a rare occasion, accidents of breeding occur that we are not aware of or cannot control. We will do everything we can to determine the correct parentage, but cannot guarantee it. The owners and employees of Yardley Cattle Co. assume no liability, legal or otherwise in the event of an accident, bodily injury, theft, error or omissions in catalogs or parentage verification. Cattle are kept in their own individual breeding groups until the first to mid July. Due to size and layout of the Forest permit it is necessary to mix breeding groups at that time. Only our own personal herd sires are taken on the mountain. Select groups of cattle will stay with one sire all summer long, but on the majority of late calving cows we cannot guarantee sire parentage unless a parentage identification test is ran. With the female as the priority, all else will fall into place. • Sorting down to 16 head of heifers, represented within these pages, is perhaps one of the most enjoyable things we do as a family all year. We discuss Granddams from years gone by, how they move, and what we should name all of them. The one thing that we really focus on is the ablity to make cows. There is huge donor potential in the open division. They are sorted from our top replacements, and come from a long line of top maternal genetics from the heart of our program. • We take great pride in the “clean up” bulls that we use, we call them herd bulls. Many of them come from top herds across the Nation or are hand selected from our bull calves each year. We know their lineage for generations, we know how their mothers milk, what their body condition score is, what type of feet and udder quality they have, and we only use the best. • We have really regretted selling Prince. We just used him sparingly AI, and his calves have been dang good! This heifer has been a favorite from the start. Bart Herndon came out and clipped the calves before pictures and this was his favorite “girl” of the sale. She’s as good as you can put one together. Impressive in her stoutness and admirable in her style. She’s got the bone, power and look to turn more than a few heads! She carries a complete outcross pedigree to Maine genetics and is going to be a true breeding piece. Cherokee daughters have been some of the very best Maine cows we have owned.

• We talk cow families a lot at our house, we’ve grown up with them and Dad has spent his life developing them. C72 was as good a cow as we have ever owned. Her Daughters and Granddaughters are some of the greatest Angus cows on the place. We kept a bull out of Miss Yardley U92 last year to use in our own program. She is an easy doing, big bodied female that passes her look and design to her offspring. Turn around and look twice at this solid made female, seldom do you find an Angus with this much bone and power. She’s more than just a “Summer Love,” she’s the kind you’re going to love all year long.

You’re going to have a difficult time sorting through these heifers, it’s pretty easy to love them all.

Gilberts first business transaction
The following is as told by Dad’s Mother, Melba Thuerer Yardley. All of us kids are forever grateful that Dad decided to raise cattle instead of sheep but here is a near run in with fate. “In the winter of 1946 on Saturday the 12th of January an important event took place. Gilbert had a good ewe sheep he had got a year or two before from Jake Tanner. On this cold winter morning after going out to do chores, he came running back to the house, saying that he had a new baby lamb. He came in a few minutes later and announced twins! After he had had eaten his breakfast he went out again, and in a while returned once more, this time with the announcement that the old ewe had just given birth to her third one! Triplets! What next? Oh, all the worries we had over those triplets. On Monday when they were just two days old, Gilbert came home from school for lunch and could only find two of them. He was almost in tears. His Mother went out with him to look around the corral to find the third one. There it was, fallen in the snow behind the barn, shivering with cold. They took the poor little thing in the house and rubbed it with rags and old blankets, and tried to get it to take some warm milk. Finally when Gilbert’s father came home he succeeded in getting the little thing to get some sucking action, and it was saved. The weather became stormy and so he had to bring the little black rascals in the house at night. He put them in a big paste board box in his room upstairs and them took them out to the mother in the morning. Two or three times in the middle of the night, the family would be awakened by little footsteps and bleating, and twice they fell down the stairs. It didn’t seem to hurt them in the least. In the spring of 1946, when Gilbert was thirteen years of age, he went into business for himself. S. Taylor Farnsworth had a little flock of about thirty sheep which he wanted to get rid of. Gilbert had had a few of those sheep for several years, and he had been eyeing those of Farnsworth’s. He had talked to Brother Farnsworth about them. One day when he came home from school for lunch, he said to his parents, “You know, I’ve got a chance to make some good money if I just had enough to make an investment.” On inquiry from his father he replied that he would surely like to buy that herd of sheep from Farnsworth’s. Of course his folks were not much in favor of having sheep—most cattlemen aren’t. His Father talked to him for a few minutes, and then said, “Well, go and talk to Sam Hickman at the bank, and maybe he will loan you the money”. His thought was that surely they wouldn’t consider letting a thirteen year old boy borrow $170.00, and that that would be the end of it. He thought perhaps the sheep would be sold in a few days to someone else. But to the surprise of his parents, when school was out that day, here came Gilbert with the note, saying that all they asked was that his father sign it with him. For weeks Gilbert talked of camping out with his herd of sheep. He borrowed an old sheep wagon from Brul Ashworth and made his plans. He was quite out of patience with his parents at the delay in getting ready. Of course his Mother wasn’t very anxious for him to go alone, but he was determined. Finally on a Thursday she said, “I’ll help you get your grub box ready, and your bedding and such, and you can go tomorrow morning and come home Saturday night. Then you will be here for church and you can see what you need and go back again on Monday.” “Just two days! That would be some thing. It wouldn’t be worth it to go for two days.” He was very indignant at the idea. But finally he agreed to go for two days and then go again next week. Gilbert and his Mother worked for hours that night getting everything arranged in the sheep wagon. He was up the next morning long before day light to start out. He took the “herd” and started them up South Creek, and then came back for the wagon about nine o’clock. By late afternoon his Mother was wishing she could go and look in on him before night fall. But that wasn’t necessary. About six o’clock the tinkle of sheep bells was heard. Somebody ran to the door and cried, “Here comes Gilbert!” And sure enough here he came and all the herd with him. He said it was just too lonesome all alone. Gilbert’s business ability was demonstrated when shearing time came. He contacted every neighbor who had a few sheep and got them to let him pool all the wool and consigned it so they could get a better price. It was quite a business deal for a young boy to handle. His interest in beef cattle soon overcame his love for sheep, and he sold all of his sheep and put the money from them into beef. About 1950 he and his father went to Yampa, Colorado, where they Dad’s Grand Champion Steer 1950. They have flawless udders, and are proving maternal ablity in producing top of the market cattle. It’s a bold statement but they are flat out better than Meyer daughters. With a 70# BW, 15.67 REA, and a 40.5 yearling scrotal he was one you could like off of paper but he got better after a visual analysis. He is a female maker that is huge bodied with fleshing ability and style. His first calf crop did not disappoint. Owned with Curt Schoner, and Griswold Cattle Company. His mother has been in ET at Griswolds, she is one of the best cows that they purchased from Tim Ohlde. Hard as Steel cost us $12,000. He sired many high dollar cattle for us this past year.

I don’t like high tailed cattle. I want them square over that tail head and he is. Jeannie loves his perfect built, moderate sized mother as good as any cow we own. L21 was seven years old when we sold her, she brought $7,700 selling to Greg Kroupa of White Lake, SD. She was as pretty a cow as we’ve ever owned. T170 was her last calf that she had and is as pretty as her dam.

He was Intermediate Grand Champion bull in Denver 2012. He’s moderate framed, cool made, and his cow family stands second to none. His Granddam produced the $21,000 high seller from last years sale that sold to Jones Show Cattle and Tulle Cattle Co. A maternal sister to his dam produced Sugar Plum, a crowd favorite in our 2009 sale that sold to Wayne and Barb Ohlrichs. Sugar Plum produced a bull calf this year that Wayne and Barb said will be big time. Case in point is this cow family will PRODUCE!
