GN|MC Guy Nader | Maria Campos (LB-ES): TIME TAKES THE TIME TIME TAKES DATE: 14 September 2018 8 pm 15 September 2018 8 pm TICKET PRICE: 2400 HUF / 1900 HUF (student) General Season Pass and Twin Pass accepted TIME TAKES THE TIME TIME TAKES is a physical dynamic conversation through movement repetitions and pendulum leitmotiv that embodies mechanisms measuring time and space. A journey of dangling movements that burst into different encounters evolving towards a perpetual mobile. An ongoing wheel that suggests time as a continuum. This performance born out of the admiration for the rhythm and musicality that movement creates. A latent and constant rhythm that marks the passage of time. Based on a simple physical task such as pendulum, we create a sequence of complex mechanisms that are done and undone by the complicity of the five performers. TTTTTT is a poetic and choreographic manifestation, a physical, visual and sound exercise that explores space as a score within sound and movement. A perceptual experience of time, an eternal present rooted in materials and forms.

Motus (IT): MDLSX Heiner Müller: Kvartett DATE: 21 September 2018 8 pm 22 September 2018 8 pm 23 September 2018 8 pm in Hungarian with English subtitle TICKET PRICE: 3000 HUF / 2400 HUF (student) Heiner Müller’s modern classic, Quartet is based on the 18th century hit novel by Choderlos de Laclos. His only two characters, Marquise Merteuil and Vicomte Valmont play all characters of the story: men and women alike. In the present baroque multimedia vision of self-proclaimed drag queen, Márk Lakatos these androgynous characters — played by himself and a singer — are complemented with an actor and a dancer (sometimes male, sometimes female) to make up the quartet. Cold and fetishistic role plays in hot 21st-century chatrooms and hotter 18th-century masks with musical interventions from Purcell to the 80’s trend-setting underground band, Bizottság. Merteuil and Valmont use themselves and their puppets for props in their risky game.

The Symptoms: Head first or The Contractions of Expanding Time DATE: 25 September 2018 8 pm TICKET PRICE: 2400 HUF / 1900 HUF (student) General Season Pass and Twin Pass accepted We don’t remember how we were born, and we won’t be able to tell the story of our dying. Giving birth is an equally elementalborderline event, outside real space and time — a rarefied experience. In their brand new production, The Symptoms attempt to recall, unravel and articulate this experience of childbirth, using body parts, words, and images. The four dancers rely on their own personal memories of giving birth, including body functions, traumatic and euphoric at the same time. They try to turn inside out everything that happened to them inside the unconscious realm, beyond the closed eyes and beneath the skin.

Gravity & Other Myths (AUS): Backbone DATE: 27 September 2018 8 pm 28 September 2018 8 pm 29 September 2018 8 pm TICKET PRICE: 3000 HUF / 2400 HUF (student) Backbone (literally) tosses around the perception of what strength is, where it comes from and how it is measured. This frenetic celebration of human interconnectedness tests the limits of strength: physical, emotional, individual and collective. Backbone is this amazing circus company’s third work. Their last show A Simple Space has achieved huge international success and has been performed more than 350 times at 68 festivals and theatres across 18 countries.

Keith Fullerton Whitman (US), John Duncan, James Hamilton and Soharóza (US/CAN/HU), Porteleki & Bertók (HU) DATE: 30 September 2018 7 pm TICKET PRICE: 2400 HUF / 1900 HUF (in advanced booking, the first 100 tickets) General Season Pass and Twin Pass accepted UH Fest returns with performances by international and local artists in various clubs and venues across Budapest. On the opening night of the festival there will be concerts by the American modular synth guru Keith Fullerton Withman, sound artist and legendary performer John Duncan with the Hungarian experimental choir Soharóza and the duo of Áron Porteleki and Márton Bertók.

TICKET PRICE: 2400 HUF / 1900 HUF /16+ General Season Pass and Twin Pass accepted MDLSX is an explosive sound device, a lysergic and solitary hymn to the freedom of becoming, to gender b(l)ending, to being other than the borders of the body, skin colour, sexual organs, being other than an imposed or acquired nationality, a belonging to a Fatherland. Rosi Braidotti in “On Becoming Europeans” talked of “an open belonging to Multiplicities”, a text that suggests a post-nationalist identity... And MDLSX aims at going beyond categories – the artistic ones, too. It is Silvia Calderoni’s road trip, who – after 10 years with Motus – experiments a Dj/Vj Set like format, in order to start an exploration around borders. Autobiographical bits and literary evocations come together, and MDLSX, by blurring action and reality, swings from Gender Trouble to Undoing Gender. We quote Judith Butler who, with Donna Haraway’s A cyborg Manifesto, Paul B. Preciado’s Manifeste Contra-sexuel and other bits of the kaleidoscopic universe of Queer, weaves the background of this “Monster-Performance”.

The Symptoms (HU): Miracles of the Night Box with holes Joan Català (ES): Pelat DATE: 16 October 2018 5 pm 17 October 2018 3 pm 18 October 2018 5 pm TICKET PRICE: Free admission! External venue! For the venues please visit our website: www.trafo.hu Rain day: 19 October 2018, 5 pm An event jointly organized with CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival Pelat is silence, expectation, strength, tension, and magical, spontaneous participation. It is an original performance combining dance, theatre and circus. It is a proposal that erases the boundaries between dance, circus, theater, and performance: between audience and the show through a natural review of handcrafted techniques. This unique performance is based on the study of the body, movement, people’s behavior, craftsmanship and traditions. It is intended to leave space to the imaginary in order to share experiences and responsibilities in an evanescent ritual.

Heine Røsdal Avdal, dancer, performer, choreographer and video maker created Box with holes - a performance-installation to be visited by one spectator at a time - in search for an answer to the above question. In his work Avdal often questions how new media and new technologies are and could be used to create new meanings and perceptions of the human body and its surroundings. In Box with holes he tries to make the spectator go through a physical experience during the performance and see if this can affect perception. Box with holes is at once a venture to explore the relationship between touch and its visualisation and also an intimate and anonymous experience that feels real.

Peeping Tom (BE): Moeder DATE: 18 October 2018 8 pm 19 October 2018 8 pm TICKET PRICE: 2800 HUF / 2200 HUF (student) An event jointly organized with CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival As the curtain rises on Moeder, the audience is immediately plunged into an uncertain world, in which the stable identities and topographies that orient our movements and perceptions are held in suspension. Where are we, exactly? And who, out of all these figures, is the mother? Is she even there? Far from being the lead character, the mother seems to dwell at the edge of indecision. Peeping Tom will explore the theme of memory – and the figure of the mother – with the same tender and sardonic eye that runs through all of its productions. At once funny and eerie; Moeder is disturbing, yet strangely familiar: we recognize in it the same fascination with the sense that the world is too much for us, the same amused gaze at our faltering attempts to make it fit our notions.

TICKET PRICE: 2000 HUF / 1600 HUF (student) General Season Pass, Twin Pass accepted

Timothy and the Things (HU) : Hunting DATE: 6 November 2018 8 pm TICKET PRICE: 2400 HUF / 1900 HUF (student) General Season Pass and Twin Pass accepted Three boys go hunting in the forest. Just like in a tale. But what is it that they hunt for if there are only the three of them in the sterile space? For each other? Or for themselves? And by the way, where is the forest where there is neither grass nor trees to be seen? And after all does it make a difference who holds the gun and who the prey is? Perhaps all that matter is that three boys have gone hunting. As if we go further than this we’ll just end up in the same place. It’s easy to get lost in the forest.

Have you ever lain awake through the night with someone by your side, without “anything” happening between the two of you? And risen in the morning to a changed world inside nonetheless? A girl busy with her drawing and a boy recreate this strange, dream-like state of something like awe in which two people just stare at each other. The performance is inspired by the eponymous poem by Sándor Weöres, a poetic vision that is free-ranging, erratic and unfettered by rules, as Weöres’s poetry often is. In short, no age limit or PG rating applies. This special linguistic idiom is reenacted here on stage with the backing of paintings, drawings and animation by two artists, Ildikó Mezei and Éva Taskovics. The Animata software — a work in progress developed by Bence Samu since 2007 — has been instrumental in breathing life into the objects and figures created by the girl as she draws them on stage. The projected world and the dancers thus enter an entirely bizarre, surrealistic relationship whereby the drawn lines are personified to engage and interact with the live actors.
