_title

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED IN MY LIFE SO FAR

_personal statement _title

“ I am still learning ” – is a famous quote by michelangelo. I related to what he said because in design you are always learning something new regardless of whether you are a student, professional, or well known architect. design constantly keeps me on my toes; there is never a dull moment and i enjoy the process of designing. after completing each project, i gain more about both myself and the world around me.

I consider the learning process in design to be a blank page. The more that you learned about the subject matter you are desigining for, the more creative ideas and solutions you can put onto that blank page and this is a reason why i can’t stop desigining. But your design is only as good as your willingness to keep learning and evolving as an achitect.

Stefan Sagmeister came out with a book titled, “things I have learned in my life so far”. The part of the title, “so far” really resonates with me- if you think about it, you never really stop learning. There’s always something new waiting for you to discover. Whether it be a new technology, or shift in cultural values; desgin is forever changing with the ebb and flow of society.

With this mindset of continuous learning, i tackle each project of mine as a challenge to learn new things. I tried many concepts and ideas, different approaches and solutions, to achieve my final design. Sometimes I’m not satisfied with the outcome, I discover a better solution after the project ended, and that is fine as well, for i learnt something new once again.
