Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) 1.all perpendiculars or orthogonal meet at the central vanishing point. 2.all parallels in whatever direction have a common vanishing point. 3.equal dimensions diminish progressively as they recede in space.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

Homogenous space is based on the idea that all its elements, the points which are joined in it are mere determination of position, possessing no independent content of their own outside this relation, the position which they occupy in relation to each other. Homogenous space is not given space but constructed space.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 Perspective 1 This view gives a broad perspective showing the wideness and depth. From Marco Polo’s perspective, he could have a first overall impression of this city.

Perspective 2 In contrast, this is a close view showing one corner of the city. This perspective allows Marco Polo to have a close observation of what is happening in front ot his eyes and the expression of these figures and some details can be clearly shown to tell the

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

Perspective 1 The first perspective scene tries to depict a city of desire. Upon entering the city, Marco Polo saw a group of people on the sea. The man is surrounded by these women who awaken his desire and this desire is all around him. While he thinks he inhabits the desire and feels content, the outside view of the waves on the left implies unexpections.

Perspective 2 Marco Polo then traveled to the future of this city where he saw the city’s real essence. The man whose desire was awaken in the first scene is handcuffed against the column, so is the woman on the horse which is a symbolism of his desire. This implies that he can never really have what he has desired for as they are restricted and cannot reach each other. These women finally turn out to be malignant mermaids that seduced the man with their beautiful voice and awaken his desire but eventually stifle it. The bird with a human’s head on the man’s shoulder is an embodiment of this man. He is looking out to sea, to the lighthouse, hoping to escape from this city. However, he is part of the city, part of the desire and this desire has already restricted him.

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Autographic arts are seen to be authentic so that they need direct intervention with the author, for example, painting or sculpture. It has an important element which is the finished form. Unlike autographic, allographic shows that the work is not dependent on the author for authenticity. For instance, notational drawings can be decoded according to a series of shared conventions.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) This is because that traditional representations focus on stable and fixed subjects while contemporary city is full of interconnections between objects and people. Therefore, architects need new representational techniques to show these interconnections.
