When to seek medical attention:
DO:

Persistent fever (>38.5°C), chills
•
Take the pain killer as prescribed.
•
Persistent pain
•
Keep wound clean and dry.
•

Showering is permitted. However, please avoid water wetting the dressing or wound.
Persistent nausea and vomiting for weeks
•
Swelling around the surgery site
•
Please follow up with an appointment for review and removal of stitches if required.
•
Blood or yellowish fluid around the surgery site
•
Redness surrounding the incision site that is getting worse or bigger
DO NOT: •
Do not lift heavy objects for the next 6 weeks.
•
Do not overexert yourself for the next 6 weeks.
•
Avoid strenuous activity until the doctor’s clearance during the follow-up appointment.
What are the risks? •
Difficulty in passing urine
•
Slight bleeding from wound
•
Build-up of blood or fluid at the operated site
•
Wound or mesh infection fever, redness or discharge from the wound
•
Chronic groin pain or numbness
•
Recurrence of hernia
