TRANSFORMING LIVES Capital Campaign Case for Support
Since its opening, the Belle Chasse Y has served the entire Parish through events and programs that build the mind, body, and spirit for all. In an effort to deepen our impact in our growing community, YMCA Board leadership set expanding our campus as top priority.
GROWING STRONGER The main 21,000 square foot facility with modern architecture was built to include a wellness center, exercise studios, youth program space and an outdoor aquatics center with recreational and lap pools, a splash park, and slides.
A community garden was built by volunteers as an educational resource for both youth and seniors.
A1/3 mile asphalt track and 5 acres of multi-use field space was developed allowing for expansion of youth and adult recreational opportunities.
In collaboration with NBA Cares, the Chris Paul Foundation, and State Farm, a computer and technology lab was completed allowing us to expand our youth educational programs.

CONTINUING TO MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS
In a parish of more than 23,000, there is currently no community gymnasium available. The gymnasium will meet the needs of the community in several ways including but not limited to: youth and teen recreation, development of adult recreation, community collaboration center, expanded recovery shelter, and senior socialization and wellness events. Thanks to Phillips 66, our campaign has received a grant of $500,000 as the initial seed for the project.

BUILDING TOMORROW’S LEADERS The addition of a gymnasium will allow us to greatly expand our youth programs, which focus not only on skill building and learning, but character, leadership, and team development.

+300 More youth and teens served in quality and inclusive YOUTH SPORTS programs
+25% Increase in the number of children that will have access to safe, active, and educational out-ofschool-time at YMCA SUMMER CAMP
Year round ADULT SPORTS leagues including basketball, volleyball, kickball and more!
EXPANDED SENIOR WELLNESS and socialization opportunities to meet the need in our community.
Increase in participants in FITNESS CHALLENGES, PERSONAL TRAINING AND WELLNESS OFFEREINGS.
A PLACE FOR COMMUNITY In a region with limited space and availability for special events and meeting rooms, the gym will serve as a space for community collaboration, special events, and other public service events.
The Y currently provides a base for emergency responders during natural disasters. With the additional square footage, we will be able to offer more resources and space to ensure an efficient disaster response and recovery process in our community.
All of our YMCAs have “Open Doors” to ensure no one is turned away due to their inability to pay. In 2016, the YMCA of Greater New Orleans provided OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS in financial assistance.
The YMCA of Greater New Orleans was founded in 1852 to assist in the yellow fever epidemic. 165 years later, we are still more than just a gym, we’re a cause. As one of the nation’s largest non-profits, and the 5th oldest YMCA, we are focused on serving the community.
The YMCA provides older adults a place to gather for fitness and fun. Programs include group exercise classes and health education. The YMCA participates in Peoples Health and Humana programs that offer YMCA memberships and activities at little or no cost to the participant.
“As a member of the YMCA since 2011, I have seen firsthand the impact that the Belle Chasse YMCA has had in strengthening the Plaquemines community. The Belle Chasse YMCA offers outstanding programs and services, and also holds untapped potential. The addition of a gymnasium to the campus will enable the Belle Chasse YMCA to expand programming for families, youth, seniors and military. As the only facility of its type in the Parish, the gymnasium will be available to community partners as a meeting, training and event space. I encourage you to be part of this exciting expansion and grow stronger with the Belle Chasse YMCA.” -Julie Nosser, Capital Campaign Chair
This expansion plan positions the YMCA as an even stronger community partner and increases our ability to address critical health issues, social challenges, and unmet needs in our community. We will approach the expansion in three phases with the support of the community.

The 1/3 MILE WALKING TRACK adds a healthful amenity to the campus and makes possible the addition of quality programming like Girls on the Run. The track also plays host to community fun runs and will soon be home to a track program for youth. FIVE ACRES OF MULTI-PURPOSE FIELD SPACE inside of the track created space for a wide variety of activities ranging from youth and adult sports, expanded fitness amenities, and community event space. A PARKING LOT EXPANSION to meet the increased demand of members and participants in programs and events.
COME TOGETHER!
Phase III- $2M
Phase III of our Campaign continues our progress toward completing a multi-purpose community and wellness center. During this phase, we are seeking the support of our neighbors and community conscious partners.
The YMCA has plans to build a new 9,692 SQUARE FOOT GYMNASIUM AND COMMUNITY CENTER addition to its Belle Chasse facility. The new center will be designed with flexibility in mind with the ability to configure the gym in a multitude of ways in order to optimize the space for a variety of different programs and events. This includes full-court and multi-court capabilities for sports like basketball and volleyball. During sports games and special events, retractable bleachers will be able to accommodate nearly 200 SPECTATORS. The new facility will also include: • A large MULTI-PURPOSE CONFERENCE ROOM available for Y programs and community meeting space. • A CONCESSIONS STAND, which opens to both the gymnasium vestibule, as well as a new covered serving space for the pool area. • A RECEPTION AREA with dedicated administrative office space. • Additional storage for athletic equipment.
Completion of the project is anticipated in SPRING 2019!
