CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WEST ST. TAMMANY YMCA

OUR YMCA MISSION: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. YMCA OF GREATER NEW ORLEANS CULTURE STATEMENT: The YMCA of Greater New Orleans is a non-profit community committed to SERVING our neighbors, SUPPORTING them in reaching their wellness goals, and CONNECTING them to the resources needed to live healthy, fulfilling lives. We believe wellness is an all-encompassing concept that includes physical, emotional, spiritual, educational, financial, and relationship well-being. We are committed to offering quality activities and programs which enhance people’s lives in all of these areas. We support the development of our community’s youth through programs that

instill our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. These activities promote physical well-being, develop

strong qualities of character, and reinforce the important work of our schools and families. We provide a safe and social place for seniors and connect them to a variety of programs to help them remain healthy, happy, and independent. We embrace our Christian heritage and commitment to social responsibility by modeling compassion, avoiding judgment of others, and serving members of our community who may be suffering from poverty, hunger, disability, or

TRANSFORMING LIVES Capital Campaign Case for Support WEST ST. TAMMANY YMCA

GROWING STRONGER MEMBERSHIP at the West St. Tammany YMCA grew by 14% in 2015 and by an additional

26% in 2016.

Our PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS grew by 23% in 2016. Seniors made over 30,000 visits to the West St. Tammany YMCA last year, adding quality, longevity, and independence to the lives of our active older adults.

PARTICIPATION in YMCA programs grew by 10% in 2015 and by an

additional 25% in 2016.

The MEMBER DRIVE of our capital campaign has already

raised over $275,000, which has allowed us to complete several campus improvements and additions.

In 2015, the YMCA received a GENEROUS DONATION OF 2.7 ACRES of additional land. With this donation, our available space to expand has increased by 35%.

OUR VISION Our campus expansion will provide us with the ability to address the community’s need for a place to deliver water safety programs, swim lessons, water-based physical therapy, lifeguard training, and competitive swim events. Our additional program space will allow us to double the number of children and families we serve in our youth programs such as leader’s club, summer camp, after school, leaders club, youth sports, and swim team. The YMCA allows our community’s older population to remain active, healthy, happy, and independent. The expansion of our facility is critical to our ability to continue to offer these services and will allow us to double the number of seniors we currently serve, from 30,000 visits per year to over 60,000. The West St. Tammany YMCA’s expanded campus will provide program space to further develop and grow our community partnerships. We currently partner with St. Tammany Parish School Board, St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Christ Episcopal School, Hannan High School, Girls on the Run, Fire District 13, PRIDE, Grace Chapel, the Chamber of Commerce, and many more!

OUR VISION IS FOR THE YMCA TO BE A KEY COMMUNITY CENTER IN ST. TAMMANY PARISH, AND TO SUPPORT AND EXPAND THE MUCH-NEEDED PROGRAMS OUR Y AND PARTNERS OFFER.

All of our YMCAs have “Open Doors” to ensure no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. In 2016, the YMCA of Greater New Orleans provided $1,073,156 in financial assistance.

The YMCA of Greater New Orleans was founded in 1852 to assist in the yellow fever epidemic. 165 years later, we are still more than just a gym, we’re a cause. As one of the nation’s largest non-profits, and the 5th oldest YMCA, we are focused on serving the community.

In a community surrounded by water, the Y is committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn how to be safe around water through swim lessons and water safety programs.

This expansion plan positions the YMCA as an even stronger community partner and expands our ability to address critical health issues, social challenges, and unmet needs in our community. We will approach the expansion in four phases with the support of the community.

GROW STRONGER WITH US!

GET GROWING!

Phase I- $335K: COMPLETED! Phase I of our Capital Campaign generated $335,000 IN STAFF AND MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS which propelled the completion of our first phase. 

POOL HEATERS were installed, making the once seasonal outdoor pool available for year-round use and expanded programing like swim lessons, Safety Around Water classes, and aqua aerobics. A brand new 2-FLUME WATER SLIDE AND DEDICATED EXIT POOL was added. This addition serves as a member amenity and draws community members to the facility. The PAVILION on site was enclosed and wired for lights and fans to allow for expanded programming and community space.

2.77 ACRES OF ADDITIONAL LAND WAS DONATED TO THE YMCA,

bringing the size of the entire campus to 10.4 acres and setting the ground work for our vision to grow to meet the needs of our community!

GROWING UP!

Phase II- $400K: IN PROGRESS!

Phase II of our Campaign is underway with a $400,000 lead investment from the YMCA of Greater New Orleans General Fund. 

The current first floor office space will be reconfigured to create ADDITIONAL YOUTH PROGRAM SPACE including an expansion of our childcare area and designated after school space. This will allow for an increase in the number of programs offered and a significant increase in the number of youth we are able to serve. The second floor of the facility will be built out to add 2,500 SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE AND MULTI-PURPOSE SPACE for youth programs, community meetings, and employment skills training.

COME TOGETHER!

Phase III- $3.2M

Phase III of our Campaign continues our progress towards completing a multi-purpose community and wellness center. During this phase, we are seeking the support of our neighbors and community conscious partners. 

MAKE A SPLASH! Phase IV- $6M

During Phase IV of our Campaign, we are striving to make a major impact on our community through the construction of a state-of-the-art regional aquatics facility that will allow for the expansion of year-round aquatics programs and will bring a competitive training and swim venue to our community! 

The new indoor aquatics facility will consist of a HEATED 25-METER COMPETITIVE POOL, OFFERING SIX SWIM LANES AND SPECTATOR SEATING. The facility will be able to HOST COMPETITIVE SWIM MEETS and provide local swim teams and schools with an indoor facility for aquatics training. The new aquatics center will ensure every child in St. Tammany Parish has ACCESS TO SWIM LESSONS AND WATER SAFETY CLASSES.

A SPLASH PAD and additional aquatic features to create a safe environment for young children to learn about safe water play and a great place for families to have fun together. A 7,500 SQUARE FOOT ADDITION to the facility, to increase our capacity and offerings of programs for children, families, seniors, and other members of our community. A PLAYGROUND for the many children who visit the YMCA every day.
