Book Reading with award winning author, Marla Stewart Konrad Marla Stewart Konrad is an author and communications professional from Oakville. She has written five books for children, including the award-winning picture book, Just Like You. Each of her books celebrates life and childhood across many cultures. In a positive and affirming way, they give children a glimpse of the differences from one culture to another, and also the things we all share in common. Her books have been featured and reviewed in publications as diverse as Canadian Living, The Globe and Mail, and Today’s Parent, and in many newspapers and journals on both sides of the border. The Toronto Public Library listed her book, I Like to Play, on its “First and Best Books” list in 2010, one of 11 books chosen from among all Canadian children’s books published that year. Marla’s career has taken her to Hong Kong, where she lived for two years, and to numerous countries across the globe. She is currently the Director of Strategy and Internal Communications at World Vision Canada. Don’t miss the Oakville Public Library’s imagination station. The Imagination Station includes a puppet theatre, a dressup corner and books to read to spark a child’s imagination.

Drum Circle

Everyone has rhythm, anyone can drum. We gather in Drum Circles to connect as a community through rhythmic conversations without words. All ages, all cultures, all levels of ability, come together to bang on a drum, shake a shaker, move to the beats, and share in the collective voice that emerges from the group. People all over the world are waking up to the powerfully positive effects of participating in a Community Drum Circle. It reduces stress, stimulates self-expression, and inspires emotional, physical and spiritual well being. There is no right or wrong; we create a safe, permissive explorational environment. Everyone is welcome; chairs, djembe drums and percussion instruments will be provided. All you need to bring is enthusiasm, no experience required, it’s that simple. Please join us for this interactive musical celebration. Drum Circles are so much FUN!

Massive Tank Studios Mini Concert

This new and unique music recording facility from Oakville will showcase some of its best young musicians in a mini concert. Performances will include a variety of instruments all designed to solve a music puzzle.

LEARN TO JUGGLE!

Kids can learn to juggle! Hey, even Moms, Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas can!!! For an introductory lesson join JUGGLE WITH ME! instructor John Mark Deneau and his talented assistants in the foyer. A new session will start every halfhour. Space is limited to 30 participants, so pre-registration is recommended. Juggling fosters the development of hand-eye coordination and key character qualities such as perseverance, goal-setting and creativity. But mostly, juggling is just plain FUN! Impossible for me, you say? It’s not! The “impossible” is often the UNTRIED!
