July – December 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians,

needy students. We thank school, all the parents and students for making this project a huge success.

As we approach the end of yet another school year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support and interest this year. We have had another very busy and successful year in Centre and you, as partners in the education of your children, deserve much of the credit for that. Over the past ten months, your children have worked very hard at their studies and, in play. What they learned was the result of many factors, not the least of which was their effort in studying, writing, practicing, and the hours they put into classes, activities and discussions. Following are key highlights:

Good Character Award

Story Telling Competition Students from each level were selected, and coached by our teachers to narrate and present their stories based on the legends of Singapore. It was an exciting time for all participants and their parents who supported them during the semi/final competitions. Congratulations to the participants and the winners of the competition! The Good Character Award recognises students who demonstrate exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their daily actions. We are delighted to announce those pupils who have been awarded Good Character Award. National Day (SG 50)

Hiroshima Peace Lantern Ceremony Every 6th August, a peace ceremony is organized in Japan as an expression to strive for lasting world peace. Lantern with peace

messages are floated on the Motoyasu River to as symbols of hope for peace. YMCA students participated in this special Ceremony by creating their lanterns expressing the themes of Peace and Hope to all mankind in their designs.

This year’s celebration was a milestone experience. The students engaged in reflections on the passing of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew especially his legacy, the significance of hosting the ASEAN Youth Games, the Youth ParaGames and F1 grand prix. The students created heart-shaped Singapore flag that were displayed in the Centre for students, parents and teachers to appreciate.

Teachers’ day Students made their own cards and wrote down messages of appreciation as a show of sincerity and respect to their school teachers.

Young Entrepreneur Project This year’s junior social entrepreneur project is was a special one as the event was held jointly with school’s year end P6 jumble sales to raise funds for the needy. The proceeds raised were presented to School to support

July – December 2015 importantly, the importance of family re-uniting and enjoying time with loved ones.

Childrens’ Day is a day to engage in fun and frolic. But it is also a time to renew our commitment towards the welfare of the children and to imbibe in them, the qualities of discipline, sense of order, and beauty that is around them. The teachers prepared gifts which they gave individually to the students affirming their strengths and encouraging them to excel and always be social champions.

Old Community Games Students relived some of the games to experience Singapore’s past like Gasing, Pickup-sticks, Capteh, Paper Ball, and Plastic bubble ball.

Sport stacking workshop

Samsung digital art workshop As an

individual and team sport, the participants were tested on hand-eye coordination/accuracy and sharpened their reflexes through practice.

The digital art workshop conducted by experienced trainers provided hands-on experience for the

students to collaborate learning across the levels. The students had fun creating imaginative designs with the use of Samsung ipads.

ASEAN Para Games th

The 8 ASEAN Para Games were held from 3-9 December. Beyond physical fitness, the power of sports helps to strengthen the character, and bond the ASEAN community. This year is a special one for Singapore as hosting venue. Our students watched the Table Tennis competitions ‘live’ on 8 December at the new Sports Hub. They gave their Kallang Roar to cheer the athletes on.

The last few weeks of school have been busy, for the children the December activities and with all our Christmas art activities. The children had fun decorating the Centre with their art and craft masterpieces. With 2015 drawing to a close, we hope your children realize that their learning will continue, for all of life is a school, and we learn by everything we do. It is our sincere wish for you and your children, this year holds only pleasant experiences and may good times and memories continue for many more years.
