In-House Enrichment Programme Term One – Sport Stacking
Practice! Practice makes it perfect!

Sport Stacking is an individual and team sport, where participants up-stack and down-stack 12 specially designed plastic cups in pre-determined sequence at a very quick speed. It improves hand-eye coordination, trains quickness and concentration of the mind. It builds confidence in public performance as well. The sport was first introduced as an enrichment programme in all YMCA Student Care Centres in 2016. Students of YMCA SCC @ Greenridge were chosen to represent the centre in our Annual Sport Stacking Competition 2017. Term Two – Fun with Crayons Fun with Crayons was a super ‘FUN’ activity for our students! Our teachers went for specialised training to to learn how to teach crayon skills to the young artistic minds! Our students were surprised with what they could achieve by understanding colour schemes and blending techniques. We proudly displayed their masterpieces for all to see!

Comic book heroes seem fearless and have superhuman strength and powers. A real hero is an ordinary person, facing extraordinary circumstances and handling them the best they can. We would like to encourage our students to think that our true powers lie in the way that we live our lives with dignity, courage and love. In line with these noble thoughts, we conducted a workshop titled “Animal Heroes!’ – where our students learnt about safari migration and how animals lead their packs over unknown territories. Presentations were also done by our teachers on ordinary men and woman who became extraordinary when their help was needed!

June School Holiday Programmes Week 1 – Monsters Under My Bed Creating their own monster masks using paper plates…
Some kids are afraid of them. Some kids love them! We intend to let our students discover that not all monsters are to be feared… There are many cute, friendly and cuddly ones too! Besides having a monster-filled week of activities, we arranged for a workshop called “Myth Monsters” on 29 & 30 May. In this workshop, our students found out about the Loch Ness Monster, whether the Gargoyles came alive at night and what happened to the Goblin Rumpelstiltskin. ch
Week 2: Science and Me! Questions, questions and more questions about Science! Young inquisitive minds ask hundreds of questions. We went in search of the answers together with our students by using science to both enlighten and delight them! We paid a visit to the Science Centre to find the answers! It was scienterrific fun on 5th June 2017! Our students loved “Butterflies Up-Close”!

Week 3 – Brotherhood/Sisterhood If you have a brother or a sister, you are very fortunate because they are the perfect people who can share your happiness and sadness. However, occasionally, you will have a different point of view and sometimes you tend to argue and feel bad. Nevertheless, your connection with your siblings will never disappear! Having a sister/brother is like having a best friend, you will always have around! You know that whatever you do, they’ll still be there for you! Following on this theme, we went for Despicable Me 3 – where the storyline on how 2 brothers overcame their differences, reiterated our moral lesson! .

Week 4 – The Great China – A Country of Rich History Do you know? With a population of over 1.3 billion, China has more people than any other country on Earth. Do you know? The mortar used to bind the Great Wall’s stones was made with sticky rice! Do you know? The Last Emperor of China, Puyi, became a ruler when he was only 3 years old. Do you know? The Chinese have used chopsticks to eat with for over 4000 years. Our students explored China - all about her rich history, culture and people. In keeping up with the theme, we arranged for a workshop called ‘Ancient China Expedition’ on 19 & 20 June, where the students learnt about the Terracotta warriors, the ancient inventions that we are still using today and The Great Wall of China!
↑ WOW! Charmayne managed to build her own ‘Great Wall of China’!!
Ready, Go!
