YMCA SCC @ Hougang and United World College of South- East Asia (UWCSEA) have been collaborating on a joint programme for the benefit of our students since 2016. A group of students went over to UWCSEA Tampines on a weekly basis for Activities and Games.
Activities such as Yoga and Rock Climbing, help the students to improve in their hand-eye
coordination and balance These activities not ony boost their self confidence but also enable them to have a sense of accomplishment at the end of every activity. With friendly trainers and friends from UWCSEA, this Learning Service also helps to cultivate Social Skills in our students. as well as students from UWCSEA. The students from both schools were given a chance to interact and play with one another.

The annual storytelling competition was held on 6th September 2017 at YMCA Xavier and Elizabeth with Singa the Lion
Headquarters.
The theme for this year was ‘Kindness’ and there were many
interesting stories presented by all participants. Elizabeth Lee and Xavier Chua represented YMCA SCC @ Hougang for both the Lower and Upper Primary categories. The Storytelling Competition helps students to practice their public speaking skills and allows them to tell stories with different expressions and emotions .

Happy faces of YMCA SCC @ Hougang Adam preparing his Pizza
During the September Holidays, for the MasterChef Enrichment programme, students and mentors from YMCA SCC @ Hougang made a trip to Anchorvale CC Pastamania to make Pizza! Students learnt where pizzas came from and also how to make healthier pizzas. This activity allows students to gain more practice on their motor skills. Lunchtime!!
As this would be our last year with Hougang Primary School, the mentors decided to throw a Children’s Day party for the students. The celebration consisted of a presentation on information of the event, Scavenger hunt, Waterballoon Pop, Dress Me up, and sharing sessions! We are grateful to parents who provided delicious finger food Ms. Erika presenting the history of Children’s Day to the students
and snacks.
The students ended the day with a mass dance to the tune of Baby Shark Song!

In December 2017, the students visited the Butterfly Park and Insects Kingdom in Sentosa. The students experienced first-hand how the metamorphosis of a butterfly takes place and explored the fascinating world of insects. They also had a chance to get up close to an Iguana and many more creatures! The students had hands-on experiences with these creatures. They had a better understanding of the butterflies and insects!
