Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter for the year! For a start, we hope to provide you updated information on the past events involving our students at YMCA through this newsletter. We wish to be able to give you a better insight of what your child has been doing for the past six months.

YMCA STUDENT CARE CENTRE @ OASIS January – June 2017 2017 Happy New Year from the students at YMCA Oasis! Our students had a wonderful time dressing up in traditional New Year clothing.

The teachers sat down with the students and shared with them about the origins of Chinese New Year and some of the

On 21 June 2017, Students from different YMCA Student Care Centres took part in the sports stacking competition. This is the second year that the event is held and 5 students from YMCA Oasis participated in this competition.

Our students trained hard and displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the event.

3rd of June was certainly a memorable day for our young entrepreneurs as they showcased their creativity and marketing skills at the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP). Held at the Hougang Marquee N6, this is the second year that we are collaborating with Punggol Park CC to host this bazaar.

Through this event, our students were able to gain valuable experience and do their part to help the less fortunate families by making items out of recycled materials and selling them.

All the proceeds from the bazaar were donated to Melrose Home, The Children’s Aid Society via YMCA-Tan Chin Tuan Community Service Programmes. It was truly an unforgettable experience for everyone who participated.

Our student volunteer Javier Lim (Primary Two) from SCC @ Oasis mentioned: “I was very happy to be able to be part of this event and knowing that I can help those who are in need.

YMCA Oasis partnered with the Pink School Bus and trainers who conducted the Ancient China Expedition Workshop over the course of two days. The class started off with the trainers explaining the different seasons to the students.

Engaging activities were also prepared for the students such as tracing their names and creating a chariot out of pegs.

Myth Monsters Also led by the Pink School students were introduced to different myth monsters and even tried creating their own creature!

The students embarked on an amazing adventure at KidzAmaze on 23rd of June. It was a dream come true for the students as they got to experience a 3-storey high vertical playground arena filled with visually stunning and fully themed interactive soft play centres that fully captivated their imaginations. On 9th of June, the students went on a learning journey to the Singapore Discovery Centre. At Singapore Discovery Centre, students toured the galleries and learned about what makes Singapore unique. Interactive exhibits were also available to give them a glimpse of what the future of Singapore could be.

Besides the Singapore Discovery Centre, our students also visited the Army Museum and got a good informative history lesson. They also got an insight into how life was like when Singapore first became independent! Rishi: Our future soldier in training!
