Our foundational level Art Program creates a fun learning environment for pupils to enjoy art experiences. Each week, the children learn basic elements of art to draw and compose their works of art. They will also acquire skills in colour rendering using the crayon medium to create vibrant and aesthetically pleasing works. This art program aims to nurture the children’s creativity and build self-confidence by inspiring them to use art to express their ideas. All their artworks are displayed at the centre to encourage the exchange of ideas as well as to inculcate values and respect one another’s ideas and art creations.

Here we have our supervisor, Ms. Grace imparting her unique baking skills and her secret recipes to the children. What’s more, right in our very own PW Café!

’ This was the children’s first outing! Together with Ms Helen and Ms Grace, they were brought to Waterway Point to catch a movie, Pete’s Dragon! “I felt very emotional when Pete had to leave Elliot… It was so sad” -Matthew Teo “I was so excited during the chase… especially when Elliot was breathing fire. So cool!”

For the 2016 Junior Entrepreneurship Program (JEP), the children pooled their creative juices together in making the Hama beads coasters and key chains. They were given beads of various colours, together with special boards to design their own bead trinket. Teachers helped to iron these trinkets of colourful mosaic images. The students even went to research on popular characters like PokĂŠmon and Super Mario and made many different attractive designs. Pieces where then collected and sold to raise funds. Here, you can see the children striving hard at work on their own masterpieces. Children creating their favourite characters with Hama beads!

Here we have the children learning rhythm and beats via singing. Hence, choral beats! The song they were singing and tapping to is the Cup Song, from the movie “Pitch Perfect”.

Let’s create some rhythm with cups!

This is no easy feat as it took them a few weeks to be able to do both at the same time, but the end result was definitely worth it.

The holidays have begun! One of the activities that the children engaged in was learning how to make colourful balloon sculptures. Here, you see our children hard at work trying to twist and shape the balloons into intricate animal shapes. Just look at the faces of concentration!

: Finally! The second outing! This time, it was at a water themed playground. There the children had so much fun playing in the pools and the different slides the place had to offer. Look at how much fun they are having being surrounded by the cool water during a hot sunny day. You can definitely tell by their smiling faces. Having lots of fun splashing in the pool!

: Look at our PastaMasta-Chef! The children went to Pastamania to learn how to make their own pasta. There, they learnt about the types of pastas and the process of making their very own food. After making their own pasta, they even baked it with help from the friendly instructors. Yum Yum!

: The last outing for the year! Look at all the children with their goodies. They learnt how Milo is made, packaged and distributed in Singapore. Also they learnt about the history and the origins of Milo and its milestones while on our sunny island. It’s safe to say we all love Milo in the morning. Yay!

Merry Christmas everyone! We had a smashing great time with the children. There were fun games and lots of delicious food. There were attractive gifts and prizes too! That’s all we have for this year! Here’s hoping that 2017 will be just as or even more exciting. From all the staff at YMCA PWSCC, Blessed New Year! Page | 8
