“The Opening Ceremony of Kids Haven @ Hougang ” YMCA SCC started operating this school year. We are happy to be partners of Hougang Primary School (HGPS) to work hand in hand, to equio and to inspire our young students to explore the wonders of life in their journey of learning. Our programme provides every child with educational and emotional guidance in a warm and caring learning environment. HGPS was Inaugurated by Mr Andrew Khn (School Advisory Committee Chairman) with Madam Goh Mee Mee (Cluster superintendent) on 15 April 2016. There was a short programme after the Opening Ceremony. We presented a video about the Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs Programme on how our students were partners of the community service programme. Our students garnered the following awards Best Marketing Award, Best Sales (Second) and Most Hardworking (Ng Jia Xuan Zaria). We also awarded the Good Character award to students who demonstrated exemplary behaviour and values. and showcased the children’s JEP (Junior Entrepreneur) projects. We ended the programme with a mini festive games for the students.
We offer different programmes every term which incorporate all areas of learning into an experiential journey. Learning goes beyond the classrooms and our children are exposed to programmes that will develop their social skills and build self-confidence.

Cup Stacking helps to develop motor skills, increases hand-eye coordination, promote brain development and character building through enhancing confidence, perseverance, self-image and sportsmanship. In Cup stacking, plastic cups are stacked into various formations and the children competed with one another to complete the formations in the shortest time.
Erin with Miss Siti - practice time ď Š Cup stacking is part of our enrichment programme that helps the children develop dexterity and it also teaches them teamwork. Our students participated in the Singapore Cup Stacking Championship that was held at YMCA Auditorium in June this year.

During the competition, our centre got into the finals for the 3-6-3 individual by Lee Jun Leng Wayne and also the Team relay 3-6-3. The students learnt a lot from this cup stacking that if you drop a cup, you have to stop, fix the problem and continue. It is a life lesson in developing resilience.

The Junior Entrepreneur Program (JEP) gives the children a glimpse of how it is like to be an entrepreneur, from the hard work involved in planning and preparing the items to sell, to promoting their products and approaching potential customers. The children had the

opportunity to showcase their
Zaria and Jolie creativity by making use of recycled materials to create and decorate items to sell. Through this program, the children also learnt the importance of recycling and working towards a sustainable future as responsible citizens. Making use of the recycled materials collected, the children created many innovative products such as friendship bracelets, bird feed holders, flower holders and many more. For Chinese New Year the children had many exciting activities lined up for them. To get them into the festive mood, the children had a good time feasting on Chinese New Year goodies. The children had an enjoyable time gaining insights on the meaning of Chinese
New
Year,
the
traditions
involved,
customs and practices, as well as the many interesting aspects of the occasion. The children also enjoyed the videos of the traditional lion dance, which is believed to bring good luck. In addition, there were hands-on activities prepared for the children. The children had an enjoyable time learning how to fold various crafts such as lanterns and fishes using red packets. Circus skills service & Sports Circuit Training with United World College SEA - East Campus YMCA HGSCC and United World College SEA collaborated in a joint programme for the benefit of our students. A group of students from United World College SEA engaged our students for this outing during the Circus skills activity at their premises. The circus skills helped to tap into their physical abilities and improve their hand - eye coordination and motor skills. It also enhanced the emotional development of students by giving them a sense of accomplishment, building their self- esteem and confidence and giving them an outlet of expression. Another group of students had the opportunity to join another programme in the Sports Circuit training where the students had different circuit areas for training with the students and physical trainers from UWCSEA. The HGSCC students had a fun time with the students at UWCSEA.
A week filled with fun and learning as the activities during the March holidays provided the students with educational experiences away from their regular school environment. They learned in a more hands-on and interactive manner than Ready to set sail to the Rivers of the world what they do in their classroom. First on the
learning journey to River Safari and the remarkable Amazon Flooded Forest, the children experienced the world’s most iconic rivers. The “Discover the World's Rivers” from the stunning Mississippi to the remarkable Yangtze, the children learnt about the different kinds of river animals living in certain rivers and how unique it was to others. We sailed on the Amazon River Quest and met some of the amazing wildlife from the world’s largest tropical rainforest, such as the jaguar and manned wolf. The children were awed by the huge manatees swimming placidly in their gigantic Students viewing the fishes from aquarium. The trip ended with a visit to see the adorable the Mississippi River Giant pandas, Kai-Kai and Jia-Jia.
Milo ® Discovery Tour The Nestle Jurong Factory is the world’s Largest Producer of malt extract and it has been producing Milo® Powder for Singapore as well other countries all over the world since 1984. The children experienced a guided tour with 6 specially designed discovery stations, with interactive games that can be played through a handy I-pad that was provided. They learnt about the history of milo, the production process and key ingredients that help us stay active with nutrition, by seeing real-life application of the lessons, the children Orientation first before the tour.

Awake love orchestra, a musical experience around the world, imparted their gift of talents thru singing, playing instruments and harmonising in fusion of melodies and passion. It fired the imagination of the children as they participated in the show. The Show made the children realize how music and rhythm could work together to have harmony and to give a beautiful form of the arts.
Through play and exploration, the children cultivated and appreciated plants, nature and the environment. It met the demands for Kids @ Orchid Garden.

At the Science Centre the students learned how modern technology evolved to today’s mobile phones and other entertaining devices. They also learned who the inventors of these technologies were. The children travelled back to ancient Egypt to learn about how science can be used to tell time, make a workable calendar and align huge buildings. In addition, they visited multiple exhibits which were very hands on and interactive, allowing them to gain new knowledge and have fun at the same time. The children enjoyed themselves playing in the water works. The students were reminded that water is a precious resource to all living things and that a person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water.

The flight to living colours @ Jurong Bird Park, a most renowned bird sanctuary with some of the largest freeflying aviaries in the world had the children in awe with the diverse range of birds available. The children had a ball of a time visiting the different exhibits and interacting with the birds. The children had a guided tour at Waterfall Aviary with over 600 birds flying around as well the 30-metre high waterfall. We then watched the High Flyers show and Kings of the Skies. The children were mesmerised by the natural talents of the star birds and the Waterfall Pose @ Waterfall aviary free-flying performances. The trip will never be completed without the “feeding experience” with the Lories. The children had a great time feeding the Lories. Rozelle feeding a Lory
