It is essential for teachers and parents to work and communicate with one another to bring out the best result in each child. We are sure this newsletter will work as a medium of communication between parents and us…
About Us In SCC @ Oasis, we hope to help the school to nurture the students into passionate learners and grow into caring and responsible leaders. Our goals are to ensure the students have selfesteem, independence, uniqueness and competence. We believe each and every child is unique and have different styles of learning. There are over 60 students enrolled with us. Our programmes include, supervised homework, additional academic practices and revision, workshops conducted by the centre as well as from external sources. Our teachers also conduct Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) presentations twice a week to explain the importance of R3ICH values so that our students are able to incorporate it into their daily living and become better individuals and better citizens.

Pirates! Raider of the seas
During the March holidays, a two- day workshop was conducted in our centre. There were five activities for students to participate in. These activities challenged students in all aspects; physically and mentally, their coordination and teamwork.
On top of that, the trainers tested the students’ Mathematics Skills and the students learnt the importance of teamwork through Walking The Plank. The students now know the real reason why in olden days pirates needed to walk the plank instead of jumping straight into the water. It is believed, by forcing the perpetrators to walk the plank, it was to avoid the pirates from facing murder charges. Another word, walking the plank was an indirect way of killing the culprit.
Students were introduced to the different crew on the ship and their ranks through role playing. They were divided into groups where each member was assigned different roles. They learnt and created a geo board map using just daily necessities such as rubber bands, toothpicks and Styrofoam boards, to help them find their way to the treasure! The students learnt and explored science through Compass Making and carried out a simple experiment with the finished product.

P2ark Youths organized the Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs Bazaar on 19th March 2016. This event was held at the Hougang Marquee N6. Students and teachers from siz YMCA Student Care Centres, including SCC @ Oasis, took part in this colourful event. Attended by the Guest- of – Honour, Mr. Gan Thiam Poh, Member of Parliament, the objectives of this event was to expose students to social behavioral and social skills, and, allow them to pick up entrepreneurial skills at a young age.
P2arks Youth awarded three centres for their success. SCC @ Oasis came in third. All proceeds from the Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs Bazaar went towards purchasing Popular Bookstore vouchers for the Needy Students in each centre. Dylan Soh, P1 student in SCC@ Oasis, showed much enthusiasm and excitement for this new experience. "I enjoyed myself and was excited. I would like to do it again", said Dylan. It was a tiring but an eventful day for everyone!
Our students and teachers from YMCA SCC @ Oasis made bracelets and stationery holders from recycled materials (toilet rolls and old magazines). It took the students and teachers nearly a month preparing and making every item.

The teachers at SCC @ Oasis prepared various fun activities to keep the students occupied during their day at our Centre. Here are the highlights of our activities!
LOVE
Students of SCC@ Oasis were fortunate to be invited to the amazing musical performance by a Swedish multi- talented group of musicians, Awake. Performed since 2009, the group's main objective is simply to spread love across the world.
Their performance was unique and it was the first time students were able to witness different sounds from different kinds of instruments. The musicians were able to create sounds, tempo, and rhythm from practically everything, including their body parts!
Our students had a lot of fun; they were even up on their feet dancing along to the beat!
