2016: NEW BEGINNINGS The opening of YMCA Student Care Centre at St Anthony’s Primary School attracted overwhelming response when it started operations on January 4, 2016. Housed in an area of 180 sqm, the Centre strives to provide a conducive after-school care learning environment for the students to learn, grow and progress holistically in the academic, physical, social, and aesthetics aspects. The infrastructure is supported by a team of dedicated teachers and support staff to supervise, lead and guide the students. Working hand-in-hand with the school, the Centre aims to provide the best possible after-school care for the students.

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION WORKSHOP (2 & 3 June) Fellow crime investigators from Pink School Bus led the students on a mind-boggling trail to eliminate suspects and determine the prime suspect of a grotesque murder, right in our own centre!
A crime scene was set up in just 15 minutes by the trainers at Pink School Bus.
The final verdict, where all available evidence had been collated and students took a vote on who they thought the murderer was.
Students hard at work taking notes of the suspects’ occupations, whereabouts and taking their DNA samples.

AWAKE LOVE ORCHESTRA SHOWCASE (1 June)
Hailing from Sweden and the UK, Awake Love is an orchestra that opens children to different sounds and ways of making music. The students had a blast singing, laughing and dancing! It was a spectacular performance as the musicians were energetic and spontaneous. Picture Credits: act3international
EGG-MAYO SANDWICH MAKING (14 June) To kick-start the students’ interest in food preparation, they were taught to make egg-mayonnaise filled sandwiches for their own lunch.
A video show and talk was conducted on the structure of an egg and its nutritional value.
Students then get to try mashing eggs to make an eggmayo filling; spreading on bread to make sandwiches. The sandwiches were wolfed down quickly!

BLOW PAINTING (16 June) Blow painting is an art which is performed by blowing paint through a straw.
Aprons were made out of cut plastic bags, in order to keep students’ shirts paint-free.
Students huffed and puffed their way to create trees with blossoming flowers.
The end products were stunning, and made it onto our Centre walls.
KIDZ AMAZE @ SAFRA JURONG (23 June) Kidz Amaze is an indoor playground where students can play their hearts out without worrying about the weather! Features include 4 slides, around 2 storeys-high, various cannons for shooting foam balls, and a ball pit.

PAPER PLATE ART (21 June) Another initiative led by the teachers, students were taught to paint pictures of aquariums on paper plates.
Mixing hues of blue to get the desired shade.
The other students were curious to see what their friends were up to.

The aquariums were filled with marine animals, pebbles and other things of the sea.
CAPTAIN’S BALL (ONCE A WEEK) Soaked in perspiration at the end of the game but with the widest smile on their faces, the students never tire of Captain’s Ball, their favourite game. Teachers would also join in sometimes!

DANCE SESSIONS (TWICE A WEEK) Students were taught a beginner-level dance. Each session of 90 minutes included moving, grooving and having uninterrupted fun to the beat and flow of music.
The toughest warm-up to tone the arms.
Making sure they get it right, to prevent the aches!
And on to the best part……. dancing!
DOODLE ART (ONCE A WEEK) Doodle Art was introduced as an outlet for students to express their creativity and let their imagination run wild. It also helps to keep students’ brains active.

CUP STACKING (ONCE A WEEK)
Cup-Stacking was introduced as an enrichment programme for Term 2. It was held every Wednesday. The first lesson was conducted by an instructor Mr Jacky (top left). Subsequent lessons were conducted by the Centre teachers. The Upper Primary students honed their leadership skills when they guided the Lower Primary students in the training.

Enrichment Programme – Junior Engineers @ Work Similar to Robotics, students will work in teams, role-playing scientists and learn to build their own gadgets and 3D models. YMCA SCCs’ 4th Storytelling Competition 2016 The annual YMCA inter-school story-telling competition will see 4 to 5 students from each centre competing for the grand prize, telling stories on the theme of “PEACE””. Selected students will undergo training on the art of storytelling to prepare them for the competition in September. Y Choral Beats Students will work in teams, creating DIY percussion instruments using recyclable materials from home. They will experiment with elements such as Dynamics, Pitch, Tempo and Tone during choral reading. Junior Entrepreneurship Programme 2016 (YJEP) The objective of the YJEP is to cultivate the heart to care and serve, where students get to work in teams with the aim of raising funds to help fellow schoolmates who are less fortunate than themselves.
