Play is what children and young people do when they follow their own ideas and interests in their own way and for their own reasons, balancing fun with a sense of respect for themselves and others. Every day, the boys get to enjoy indoor and outdoor games or activities after finishing their work. Outdoor activities are fun and very helpful for children’s development. The boys were given opportunities for positive social interaction, learning together, experiencing health pursuits and independence. Page 3
YMCA SCC @ St. Stephen’s (Jan – Jun 2016) Newsletter Robotics Class
January - June 2016
Every Friday, our boys look forward to attend their Robotics class as it provides them opportunities to learn core science concepts with a fun, active approach.
The Upper Primary students get to make their own robots and give commands from the computer to make the robots move. The Lower Primary students use their own creativity to come up with their own object out of Lego bricks. They will then present their objects to the class and say something unique or extraordinary about their robots. They do this individually, developing their independence and also in pairs which helps them develop teamwork.

YMCA SCC @ St. Stephen’s (Jan – Jun 2016) Newsletter January - June 2016 Learning through Supervised Studies Each day, we have at least 2 hours for the boys to do and complete their school home work, guided by their teachers. They also get to learn their spelling (English and Mother Tongue). Every Wednesday and Friday, we are fortunate to have volunteers from Victoria Junior College who help the boys with their homework and other activities
A Visit to the Library We give importance to visiting the library as libraries are institutions dedicated to the sharing of information and ideas. During the June holidays, our boys visited the school library and were encouraged to look at the variety of books available to them. They were very happy to be given the freedom to choose the books they liked. The teachers shared that reading is important because words - spoken and written - are the building blocks of life. The students were encouraged to form a good habit of reading and to visit the library regularly on their own.
