January to June 2016 Every new school year sees each one of us prepare for the year ahead - the rigours of study, and the discipline required to put into action the goals we set, through sound values. At TNSCC, we want to create opportunities to help prepare our students to be caring, contributing and responsible individuals by emphasising on attributes like love, care, responsibility, sincerity, integrity and perseverance. As always, it gives me great pleasure to report on the many activities at YMCA @ Tao Nan to develop and shape the minds, hearts and spirit in every child.

Learning to be Culturally Competent and Caring, appreciating UNIVERSAL harmony …
The ceremony began several years after Hiroshima experienced the tragedy of the atomic bombing that took away many lives. In memory of this bombing, people gather at the riverside at the Peace Park and release into the river, Peace Lanterns decorated with paintings and messages to express their hopes and wishes for peace. Students designed their own peace lanterns with the objective of spreading the message of peace and Harmony. Through the activities, students were sensitised to the need for promoting communal harmony, national integration and universal fraternity.
"At the end of the day, decisions have got to be made by adults, not teenagers, but it has got to be made in such a way that when the teenagers become adults, and they look back on these decisions, they will be proud of the generation that went before them." – Lee Kuan Yew, 1968 On 23 March 2016, Singaporeans marked the first
death anniversary of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. At TNSCC, students reflected on the wise sayings of Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the character and leadership values that he personified.
….. Learning to Respect Myself And OTHERS – A non-religious arm of “Heart of God Church” that collaborates with “The Alternative Story”, conducted a bi-weekly session at our centre consisting of songs, games, education and character building lessons involving individual and group activities and reflections. Students are given a choice to opt in to participate in the programme.
The safety of students is key in our duty of CARE in YMCA. Preventive measures, especially on Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease, Dengue, and the importance of applying them diligently, are shared with students, as part and parcel of being socially responsible individuals.

Dear Parents During the Meet-the-Parents session on 27th May 2016 as well as through regular updates provided in the Parent Communication Booklet, teachers provided parents with a clear snapshot of their children’s strengths and areas of focus; in character and values that promote learning and development. Emotional resilience and wellbeing starts with cultivating healthy habits. Good habits start with good values that we practice daily. You can help your child to make good use of his / her time in the Centre: 1. Remind your child to participate actively during activities in the Centre (eg. enrichment, character building,

study, indoor and outdoor games) 2. Encourage your child to ask for help from any member of the staff when needed and also help others. 3. Remind your child that homework time is quiet time so that others can also learn 4. Remind your child that Respecting others builds good relationships We hope that you will continue to have discussions with your children, to support them in their learning for the rest of 2016. Happy June holidays!
