The students attended the ‘Step into Wild Safari’ workshop during the March holidays.
At the Peranakan Museum, the students were taken on a guided tour to better understand and experience the Peranakan culture.
They learnt about the animal hierarchy of the wild and the world’s most spectacular natural event ‘The Great Serengeti wildebeest migration’ and how it was very dangerous for the animals to cross the river due to strong currents and predators.

There, they studied the origins, the many rituals of a traditional Peranakan wedding, food & dining customs and not forgetting their beautiful and intricate designs on their tableware and furniture.

YMCA SCC @ SPRINGDALE (JAN TO JUN 2017) NEWSLETTER THE GREAT EXPEDITION
DISCOVERING OUR UNIQUE CITY
Building the Great Wall of China out of cards
Having a go at the military training obstacle course
During the ‘Ancient China Expedition’ workshop the students were educated on the four main inventions from China that changed the world: Paper making, Gunpowder, Printing Techniques and the compass.
At the Singapore Discovery Centre, the students explored the different galleries that featured Singapore’s transformation as a country and the unique and quirky things we do that make us Singaporeans. They also went on the SAFTI bus tour and toured the Army Museum. It gave them a glimpse of our military academy and success from a 1st Generation to 3rd Generation Army.
At the workshop, students travelled back in time to have a better understanding of how things were done back then. They did their own printing without the use of the printer and even learnt the reasons why the Great Wall of China was built.

For the second year running, we were invited by Punggol Park Community Club to be part of Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs carnival. Through this event, apart from learning about teamwork and being compassionate towards others, our student volunteers experienced the importance of coming up with good marketing strategies to promote their products to the public. It was a fulfilling and meaningful experience for them.
